I have this exact bike i bought in boxes. Took it home and the only thing missing when I put it all back together was the output shaft bearing. I rebuilt the entire motor, put a Lectron carb on it, 125 springs in the front an rear (im only 145 lbs and ride goat trails) Its been the best woods bike I've ever owned. I live in the PNW so its always steep, wet, rutted, bolders and root wads. You can idle it all day but wick the throttle anytime you want and it will lite like a rocket and never foul a plug.

I'd recommend anyone who can buys this vintage bike and restores it you wont regret it!

Pro tip for grip replacement: Aqua Net aerosol hair spray. It lubes the grip just enough to easily slide on, and once it dries it basically acts like a glue to keep the grip in place. Been doing this for years.

I live in South Florida and I don't use ethanol gas in anything. All of my lawn equipment including my tractor gets non-ethanol.
It's a little more expensive at the pump but in the long term it's a lot cheaper.
My Troy-Bilt lawn mower was still running that I bought new in 2005.
I only had to replace it cuz the deck rusted out.
All of my equipment runs on non-ethanol gas and synthetic Marine 2-stroke oil.

Something that is kinda funny that we do in this country when starting a bike with a choke circuit is that we crack the throttle when kicking a bike. Cracking the throttle deletes the choke circuit because it works off of suction. European guys will kick a bike three or four time really slow and leave the throttle closed so the choke circuit can suck fuel up to the cylinder, Then they kick it like got a set and crack the throttle. Once I learned this I found myself having an easier time with starts and not having to kick the crap out of something to get it started.

i dont know if this has already been said, but though epoxy isn't the right fix, ive had really good luck with marine grade epoxy. has a little give, and will stick to almost any clean surface. keep on wrenching.

I honestly know next to nothing about motorbikes but even I know how to clean a carb and that it should be your first check if bike won't start.

I have a 2018 yz250. When I first got it I was fouling plugs a lot because the guy who owned it before me was running it a bit richer for racing. Since then I put an iridium plug in and haven't had to change it since. The plug has been in for months now. Got 2 spares. The Yz motor is a rocket ship. I should have probably bought the 125 but I think it's finally starting to make me a better rider..

    Awesome video, Dude! Great job!
    I have a Question ❓
I wonder if the Gunk in the carb was solidified fuel stabilizer?? I've heard that it will do that..

Cheap oil, or wrong oil mixture will also cause it.

@@allan9603 Yep, he did say it looked a little bit Lean. The bike is an '01' . It's 23 years old. I'll bet he put fuel stabilizer in it, at some point...

Wouldn't the plates squeeze unevenly with only 2 out of 6 of the springs? Wouldn't you want 3 and 3?
