Now I understand why heads can be expensive. The more work you put into them, the higher the cost. I've always wondered how all of that was done. Thanks Kevin for showing us some of the processes in making quality heads.
I'm an old biker, 73 yrs young. Your videos are a wonderment to me. Thank you so much for sharing and teaching. Hoping we might do some work together when I get my next bike.
OMG! Watching you shape your cutting tool blow me away. I had to hold my cutting tool in my hand and shape it on a grinding wheel. circa. 1969 -1970's I told you I was old. And, NO! I didn't have to polish the horses' hooves after a call.
I have owned Shovel, Ev0 twin cam and now M8. My favorite engine of all is the Evo. I had a 1994 Heritage new and I traded it with 65,000 miles running just fine.
Thanks for a great video, I'm an old retired bike mechanic and enjoy seeing a machine shop that does honest and most importantly accurate work, I've dealt with some of those kind of shops before...Keep on doing what you do, my friend !! Thanks from an old retired Indiana mechanic !!
YOU NAILED IT ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS ON RUclips,A friend of mine has a machine shop and spending time with him in the shop watching and helping him,I can tell you got it down Again great great video
I sure wish I had you to motivate me when I was a lot younger. I'm a retired Phoenix Firefighter. We all had side jobs. One of mine was working in a machine shop. I've had a love for motorcycles since high school and have owned many of them, starting with my 1964 XLH Sportster. I could have blended that machine shop technology with my motorcycles if I had your motivation. I'm now 78. [ Funny worn, "IF". IF a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his butt every time he jumped. ]
Amazing work Kevin ! Thank you for taking us on site with you here, it felt like we was standing next to you learning the whole time, also amazing your cat like relfex to move away from your electircal machines when your hair raised right before the Lightening Striked ! thats a lesson I won't forget ! getting zapped is no fun !!
Baxters PRO TWIN ,hands down best in the business, picked my evo fatboy a few weeks ago and man is that ol 95 smooth ,i just keep getting comments on how good the bike sounds ,fixing to do the 500 mile oil change and enjoy.thanks to all at Baxters pro twin ,you now have a lifelong customer
Hi Tracy, I am SERIOUSLY considering taking my evo to Kevin, it’s a ‘95 Classic that I’ve had performance work done on about 60,000 miles ago but it’s getting tired. Would you enlighten me as to what you had done to your ride, how many mile ago and so on?
Kevin , I,ve done machine work (automotive ) worked for and old school machinist 27 years and then opened my own shop for another 25 years . I just passed it on to a much younger machinist who work ed for me so I can retire!! In process in restoring my 62 pan and would love to watch all you will be doing on that engine type. Good job sir!
I know what you mean about your wife hating it when you put parts in the oven I used to have a controversy because I would take car engines or whatever into the kitchen and tear them apart and clean them up in the winter time but I had a logical excuse it was cold outside
Hello there cowboy here love this format expecaly for those out there that don't know all that goes on behind the seances and you may be surprised to here I've had people say things like so why are you're prices so high after all with the machines out today they do all the calculations for you and the digital tell you how much material you're taking off so really anyone could do it with those machines and I've just gotta laugh and say then you should open a shop then you wouldn't need me and you would be making all the money 🤑 anyway remember be safe healthy and happy God Bless 🤠
I like to thank you I have a number series fatboy 30/200. Was worried I would mess it up more than I already have. But after I watched your video’s. I know much about it. Thanks for your help.
I hope everyone appreciates why these things take time. The setup, dealing with variables, checking and double checking. Another thought Kevin, back cut the intake valves, ball hone guides for oil retention?
Hell Kevin, I am not a subscriber yet I will e once I get paid towrds the end of this month. Since I am retired mold maker. This going over tje Evo heads and cylenders is awesome for me since I had a softail Evo and it lasted for jst about 120,000 miles. I loved that bke.
I would recommend you find a very, very good electrical contractor to install lightning rods and a proper grounding plate if you are in an area with overhead power or underground but a must on overhead. Have them include Mercury oxide resisters that you can change anytime you get hit or every three years as a maintenance thing,
If you run a funnel port intake with cool compressed air regulated just before the fuel enters the head it will give you the low-end torque you are looking for be sure to regulate your Boost fresh air pressure you may even want to put a tuner on it but it will definitely increase your power and efficiency if done correctly
06-XL1200 Sportster with Hammer with 1275 HI-Comp b.b.k. . with a D&D 2-1 Header Which CNC head porting should i utilise seeing as the the heads are free flowing as it is. Go all the way or mild ? Also , use the 5.70 as opposed to the 6.00 Hammer cams I am USUALLY in the lower rev ranges , and rarely get into the the higher rev ranges or rev limiter Thanks - Frank from Ct.😎😮
Hi Kevin, Frank from Australia, enjoying all the informative videos so far. I’m thinking of doing a stage 3 upgrade on my 103 Road King which has done 60,000 kilometres. What is your opinion on installing a catch can breather to reduce carbon buildup and would this increase engine life. Cheers
I enjoy this video, super informative and I’ve learned quite a bit already and I’m barely halfway through it. So far I only have one question and that is how hot did you get the heads before you pushed in the guides?
Just wondering how much you would charge with the detail that you're showing on this video like let's say a 114 cammed Port polished heads you know the whole nine yards with all the good stuff
Hi kevin im in new zealand and im looking at a new motor for my 09 fxdb im looking at a 110 kit cams headwork intake etc aiming at lower to mid range torque my issue is finding good builders in nz manly for the head work to match what im doing etc do u know anyone in nz or would u do the head work etc an matching the parts i need an i can get it assembled here id say shipping an taxs would b far to much to send it all over .im not to sure . Any info would b much appreciated .i have 4-5 months till summer hopefully have something by then . Love the channel . Cheers
Can anyone tell me if I have to have the cylinders machined on the bottom to keep my base gasket from leaking I will be using new bolts and it will be getting new head gaskets and it is a 97evo in a dyna and it is stock
Some can't find in any books igot1997 evo1340 an can't find size of clutch push rod behind the adjuster I am miss that from my bike how big a cross an how long if you know I wood thank you
If you are looking for a Pan Head for your Pan Head video. I have a 65 that I need to do other work on and would be happy to loan it to you. I'll pay shipping, parts and reasonable labor fees. I'll build a nice shipping box and ship it by whomever you recommend. If you like I will include an electronic distributor I never installed. If you want to do this let me know with a two-week heads-up. The motor runs fine. I took it out of service to find and change the front end out for a Duce front with that nice disk brake, so I'll have plenty to keep me busy working. I have my v-rod to ride, and the wife has an 883 low to chase after me. It's gardening season and she likes to raise flowers to feed the Monark Butterflys and helps me with the veggie garden to feed the family and help the local food bank. so, I could be ok without it for a while. How cool would it be to have a video of a rebuild of my bike on tv? Mike from Maryland
Kevin do you do complete builds?I want my old panhead back…. ‘48EL , ‘42 Knucklehead frame raked for level with..a 7” over Fury girder . I’m sure that the frame would have to be from Vtwin manufacturing or something due to unavailability. Sound possible?
I do all my own work for that reason, stealerships are just that, and thats cars , bikes etc. Im a mechanic by trade am9ng many other professions and ive worked at dealerships, you cant believe all the fees and taxes that they tack on for each service, so i dont do that. My advice would be to buy a factory shop manual for your specific bike and follow it, exept for oil change intervals because they run too long on oil changes 3k is max for any engine ! But for an air cooled you go5ta be an ass hole about using premium synthetic oil preferably Amsoil, and good flowing filters because thats where your moneys gonna go when the lifters and timing chain goes down and frags your engine! 30k max for timing chain and lifter inspetion and or replacement. Just sayin
Definitely a pleasure being able to sit in my truck and watch your videos over the road truck driver Leon
Now I understand why heads can be expensive. The more work you put into them, the higher the cost. I've always wondered how all of that was done. Thanks Kevin for showing us some of the processes in making quality heads.
Youre welcome sir.
This is a pleasure to learn from your videos

Wow what a video. It really does show how much work and TIME goes into even a simple build. To say nothing of the years of knowledge and experience.

Great video, thanks for sharing Kevin.
Nice video and The Wizard of Oz wasn’t lost on me…
Thank you for posting this. Now you need to do a Panhead build! 😉
I like to thank you I have a number series fatboy 30/200. Was worried I would mess it up more than I already have. But after I watched your video’s. I know much about it. Thanks for your help.
I really appreciate you taking the time to show everything that goes into these builds.
outstanding as always kevin , thumbs up
I hope everyone appreciates why these things take time. The setup, dealing with variables, checking and double checking. Another thought Kevin, back cut the intake valves, ball hone guides for oil retention?

I believe there are only a few people who pay attention to detail like you, I hear most saying (close enough)
Great video very Informative
I don't always have to see your face in the camera I like to see what you're doing in your hands
Thank you for the free education
Right on the money insofar as live work procedure(s)

Kevin thank you for all the fantastic videos. What a brain! So, how far is the bottom of the piston skirt from the top of the spigot at BDC on an evo?
Do you find time to ride after all your work ?
I always like to blend 3 quarters of an inch because eff full quarters. Ok. Gawd bless.

If I remember correctly he said at the beginning of the video, he heated the heads to 350. Check the beginning to be sure
I have an 08 cvo Electra glide 110, I want to keep all screaming eagle (because it's a cvo) and upgrade to 117
nice shop
Good video
Just wondering how much you would charge with the detail that you're showing on this video like let's say a 114 cammed Port polished heads you know the whole nine yards with all the good stuff
I have no idea what’s going on, other than that the guy in the video knows his stuff, and he knows it well.
Kevin, didn't really catch it, but do you remove the bit before retracting the head on the boring bar?
I have an old vanorman 744, sure do like your rottler
Thanks!

Now when it comes to Ford's I have seen as many as five different firing orders
Is there a way to get the jugs made smaller inside😊
Real good yep
what do u charge to do a set of m8 heads for more hp and torque for a moderate build?
Is that boring bar a quikway or a sunnen ?
What ideal temp are you looking for with heads on hot plate?
I like to see the whole process I don't like it when things are hidden I want to see how it goes down
I love my 1993 Dyna Lowrider
Can anyone tell me if I have to have the cylinders machined on the bottom to keep my base gasket from leaking I will be using new bolts and it will be getting new head gaskets and it is a 97evo in a dyna and it is stock

Any concerns with valve guide being perpendicular to the seat when you're installing with that method?
Nevermind... you cut the seat about an hour later.
Did I hear Pan head? My prayers have been answered. If you ever say V-rod I would probably lose control.
If you are looking for a Pan Head for your Pan Head video. I have a 65 that I need to do other work on and would be happy to loan it to you. I'll pay shipping, parts and reasonable labor fees. there will be 500 year old Harley riding around if they still make gasoline. ( $130 a gallon ? ) ⛽️ nobody is on a 4th time rebuilt Goldwing
Do U sell bikes yet or do we need to get an old one an let U build it...?
Not very much anymore. We have chosen to focus on doing what we do and not on selling complete bikes.
Kevin do you do complete builds?I want my old panhead back…. ‘48EL , ‘42 Knucklehead frame raked for level with..a 7” over Fury girder . I’m sure that the frame would have to be from Vtwin manufacturing or something due to unavailability. Sound possible?
I use be supervisor. In power. Outing.
Me I you are truly a master 👍
I've known the firing order for chevy. Before I ever learned my Social Security Number

Try a 5 angle valve job works nice😊
