    I have tried several different cams in my 2017 124” ultra. I am now running a CR480MT from CycleRama. Best torque cam I found so far. I don’t know why we don’t hear about it. The H.P. on top end is a little low. But the torque is unbelievable. 152TQ @ 3337 RPM 124HP@ 4980 RPM

      I think the 3030 will make more HP. But the cr480mt will make more TQ and sooner. I wanted max TQ right off the start. And this does it. I have 120TQ @ 2500RPM. 145TQ @ 3000RPM. I have not tried any of the star cams but I know they are very good. I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

      I run s&s 583 cams in my heratage softail. I picked it because I do alot of riding in the mountains loaded down and it keeps me from down shifting as much. In my dyna I run s.e. 260 cams it's my hotrod bike for light to light performance on bike night. I have run a pile of others and ended up choosing those because of how well they fit my needs. As far as what cam to use for your application I will only recommend one's I personally have used in my bikes when trying to find one that fit my needs. As a mechanic at a dealership I have installed hundreds but it's hard to recommend any of them based on a 7 mile test ride. I liked the s.e. 257 and the s&s 585 for interstate riding but the 583 is my favorite for 2 lane highways especially in the mountains.

    I understand you prefer S & S cams in your builds. My question is a 100" big bore kit from S & S everything I need, TC3 Cam plate, TC3 oil pump, 585 gear drive cams if crank runout allows, adjustable pushrods, lifters and also S & S heads will cost around $4500. Fuel Moto has a 98" big bore kit with all of that except has Woods TW-555-6R chain drive cams with newer hydraulic tensioners and they have Level B CNC heads I would send my old heads in for a core, all of that cost about $3500. I can find dyno charts for the Fuel Moto/Woods build at 112 hp and 116 tq for similar year air cleaner and exhaust I have but I can't find dyno charts for the S & S build with heads and all. Is the S & S worth it? I understand the gear drive comes with a higher cost. Let me know if you know where I can find S & S dyno charts. Thanks!

      I'm just a s & s guy because that's what I've been buying for myself since the 90s but fuelmoto is a good company. If it was me I would go with the 3500 setup and use that money saved for a road trip having fun riding that white knuckled chariot of doom. The need for Gear drive cams is really blown out of proportion. When I was working at bumpus harley davidson in memphis and the twin cam was born, I would have guys come in the service department just dogging the new engine because of the cam chain. When they were done ranting I would watch them walk out to there truck with overhead cams and 2 foot long cam chains turning them but they never complained about there truck. One issue about the gear drive is if your run out increases over the years you will start to get gear whine and premature gear wear. To me it's not worth the money.

      @@DeathProofProductions Thanks! Appreciate your input. I'm leaning toward going with the Fuel Moto set up myself. Heck how can I go wrong if I get over 100 hp and torque numbers compared to the stock 88. With the money I save maybe I can add a decent oil cooler. They are a very reputable company with great technical support. I have 2 other bikes also so it's not like I'm going to put a ton of miles on it and with the improvements to the hydraulic tensioners I will get many miles on before any issues arise anyway. Thanks again I really enjoy your channel, keep up the great job!

      @@DeathProofProductions Thanks! I spoke with a very reputable shop that's been in business for 2 decades, and was recommended going gear drive with the S&S 509 cam? He said he's never seen a problem with gear drives from run out? He told me I watch too much You Tube? What are your thoughts?

    • @DeathProofProductions
      @DeathProofProductions  8 месяцев назад

      I agree with him that you have to be careful with what you hear on RUclips, lots of folks faking the funk for views. The mian reason that run out is important in gear drives is that if the working depth of the gear teeth is not correct it causes binding of the pressure angle on the teeth. This causes gear whine and accelerated wear. Flywheel run out can increase with time from a thing called shucking the flywheel plus I always felt it's kinda expensive. The 509 cam is ok but it's a very small upgrade over some other choices, if your spending the money to go in to it get the most bang for your buck. If your not satisfied with the cam then your spending money to do it again.

      I've only seen it a few times myself, one was bad enough that I replaced the flywheel's and main bearings. These guys had alot of miles on there bikes and ride hard so that comes into play to. Actually gonna be making a vid hammer forging that very bearing into a knife. I would go with more aggressive cams if your spending the money to go into it.

    If you don’t want to have to down shift, just buy an automatic bike then or grow up.

      Or I could use my 26 years of experience as a certified Harley tech, a machinist and millwright to get all the power I need out of it . Just wondering how many coast to coast trips have you done, I bet none so you can take your hate comment and shove it up your ass.

      That might be the dumbest comment I've ever heard about shifting. Great video! Great explanation for guys who are new to cam upgrades. Pretty impressive taking that Heritage across country with no tunes! 😂 Ride on brother 👍@DeathProofProductions

      Thanks for the compliment. The one thing that where's you out is these slackjawed bugger eating morons making some dumb ass comment about stuff they don't know anything about. I mean who the hell doesn't want more power. Im sure last week they couldn't spell biker now they are one.

    I got 2001 duece I'm about to get the s&s sidewinder 100 bolt on kit. My buddy say I need to upgrade cam. Can you recommend cam upgrade?

      Cam choice has alot to do with the r.p.m. range your wanting the bike to come alive at. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say your wanting plenty of bottom end tourque so the s&s 583 in a softail would be my recommendation.

      S & S has a complete 100" Power Package with everything from cam plate, oil pump, lifters, pushrods comes with 585 easy start cams. Need to go with their cnc 79 cc heads with better valve springs for the 585 lift cams. Not sure exactly the difference is between 583 and 585 cams if someone knows like to hear.
