Trackpoint is great for use in the field when you're wearing gloves. Bulky or thick gloves often are hard to use with trackpads. The trackpoint makes it much easier.
When I first got a Lenovo, I didn't "get" why people loved the trackpoint.. but I've been using it for years now, and really I couldn't live without trackpoint.. At this point for me it's just SO natural to keep my hands on the keyboard and still be able to move the mouse, no need to pick my hands up to mouse.
The TrackPoint lets me move the cursor without having to take my hands off the home row of the keyboard, which is important for people who do a lot of typing. Once I got used to it, I found it extremely annoying whenever I have to use a laptop without one. It's also really useful for people who take their laptops out in the field and have to wear really thick gloves.
I purchased this laptop last week and I am typing this comment in it. From the Keyboard to screen to performance to durability, words are less to describe how amazing this product is and worth the price. I would highly recommend it especially if you are using heavy CPU consuming software be it for work purposes or personal use.
The trackpoint is great and you should give it a chance. It's superior for precision cursor input and you can keep both hands on the keyboard the entire time. With touch pads, most users move their entire hand every time they use the touchpad. Also, the by using the trackpoint you have excellent access to the dedicated buttons above the touch pad.
To add to the above, you always have right/left click available to you with your thumb. Moreover you can press the middle button with your thumb and just push up/down on trackpoint to scroll. All of this is without moving your hands away from keyboard.
DONT ever take the trackpoint away! I buy only thinkpad's bc of trackpoint. Why? I dont have to move my hand/finger. Dead simple. Try it out, get used to it and i promise you will never go back
I love the TrackPoint. It is like a mouse built in using your index to move the TrackPoint and clicking with your thumb. So natural. You do it and keep typing real quick.
Those that have become comfortable with the track point know what a huge compromise touch pads are. You have unlimited real estate to work in, it's much faster, and you don't have to displace your hands from the keyboard. It's that, and the best of breed keyboard that keeps me on Thinkpads.
Change the trackpoint to the soft-rim version. It cradles the finger and takes much less force to use. The advantage of the trackpoint is to use the mouse without moving your palms so that typing is not interrupted much.
Track point is ergonomic. It won't hurt your hands. You don't have to put your hand in a weird position and it doesn't have to leave the keyboard. Just try using it.
i understand the trackpoint has a big following. Very cool hearing lots of people love it. Not for me though. I'm much faster on touchpad or external mouse
I find I can be more precise placing the cursor with the track point. I also don’t like the sensation of having to slide my finger back and forth over the track pad which I never use as a result,
I got this laptop refurbished for 1350 AUD, super impressed with it. Beautiful touch 4k 400 nits display, was worried it may not be bright enough compared to other screen versions but quality of display is amazing, finally a Thinkpad with a great display. i7 10850H 32G 256G NVMe Quadro T2000 15.6" OLED 4K Touch It runs super quiet even under heavy load with lots of applications open, feels durable and sturdy, keyboard is top notch, highly recommend this.
Thanks for this mini review, i found a similar setup but with more storage and 16gb ram for about the same price Im glad to heard that it runs quiet for you since thats my main concern
What I love about MBs are: -touch screen -pen support -ample ports -1080p webcam -microSD slot -180/360 screens -face recognition -upgradability -Wifi 6, and of course -8% market share Not sure why RUclips always fail to mention these things...lol
a thinkpad without a trackpoint will not be a true thinkpad!!! you just have to get used to the trackpoint once you do you won't switch back to touchpad... as your finger doesn't even need to move away from the keyboard when you are using the trackpoint
Hey Mark, the trackpoint is important for people who have to work with gloves, so the normal trackpad does not work. Like people working at industrial sites or in workshops.
I use the thinkpad track point a lot because I primarily use arch linux and most of the things I do is though typing. It allows me to use the mouse when I need it without my hands leaving the keyboard
Thanks for the good information. I like your video. I have one question. How dark is the P1's 400-nit multi-touch display compared to the MacBook Pro display?
Hi, you recommend this laptop for graphic design, photoshop, illustrator and UX UI software like adobe XD and figma? I actually work in a macbook pro 15 / 2019 and i think to move to this computer
I’m considering this laptop with an i7-10750h, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, quadro t1000, and the 1080p 500 nit display (it’s on sale for around $1,200 right now). But I’m wondering about temperatures. I understand it gets loud, but I can live with that as long as temperatures are reasonable. Is there a way you can provide some input on that? Specifically for relatively high end games like forza horizon 4 or maybe CS-GO? The reason I ask is because my other consideration is the Zephyrus G15 with a ryzen 7 4800hs, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, gtx 1660 ti, and a 1080p 144hz display for $1,090. But it gets up to around 90 degrees with heavy use, which is somewhat concerning.
Hi Mark Could you please tell me i am from India, I have been fan of Thinkpad machines from many decades, i have very good budget to buy this laptop, can you tell me what is the maximum battery life it can offer. in the specifications it shows this 1. Up to 13.8 hours* 80Wh (MM14) Up to 9 hours* (MM18) is it real.
@@markguim Thanks for reply! I have ordered P1 and Core X simultaneously, will receive in a month and waiting nervously to see whether this couple will work together or i've wasted lot of money ))
P1 is lighter and more durable. Much better keyboard. Also easy to upgrade memory and storage. Has a better gpu. Also looks better. Macbook has brighter display and bigger trackpad. I also like macbook's 16:10 display. It's thinner too. Really depends on what's important to you
@@markguim Display - One has 4k OLED and macbook is inferior... But those are numbers... How do they look really... Like if you are saying 4k movie in both of them which will you prefer ?
Great video. Keyboard looks awesome on the Lenovo! Also I am impressed with the video quality coming out of that Sony ZV-1. Looking forward to you posting more content in the future :)
@@markguim I had P1G3 for a while but did not think the fan were loud. Also to stress on what you said, the fan come on during video export, not during video editing. Normal video playing, browsing, typing do not cause fan to activate.
I have owned the i9/4K version with 64GB of RAM and 4TB of SSD for 5 months now. The 2 fans are constantly running and the only remedy is disconecting the workstation from AC power to get some peace for 2 hours before recharging the internal battery again. Whilst on battery the screen dims each time one changes from one application to another. And before I forget, a major fingerprint magnet. Paid almost A$7,000 for my machine and should have stayed with my T440s.
Not even close. I mean MacBook is way better. Little advantages add up: 1. Fingerprint sensor is better. 2. Keyboard is better. 3. The screen is way better.
Dude, you shouldn't be showing the device's ID and product ID in your videos. That's a recipe for disaster cause someone (hackers/nerds) can easily steal your ID. BLUR THAT OUT PLS! Other than that, quite informative video :)
This Laptop can be charged via type-c ports too. The reason it has proprietary port is: 45W CPU and Discrete GPU (NVidia) which consume a lot of power (up to ~120W counting all hardware). Current gen type-c port can to pass through itself no more than 100 watts (standart limitation), that's why there can be cases when even 100W usb type-c charger won't be enough to charge this laptop under heavy load. Still, if you are not using your laptop that way, you can use standard type-c 65W charger from other manufactures, it will suit well (but will take more time to fully charge). I think Lenovo (and other manufactures, who has proprietary adapters for such laptops) will use their own connectors until there will be new version of usb type-c with support of >100W

Yeah, don't expect those trackpoint+trackpad removed from ThinkPad lineup. You are against most of ThinkPad users, buy lenovo line up instead.
DONT ever take the trackpoint away! I buy only thinkpad's bc of trackpoint. Why? I dont have to move my hand/finger. Dead simple. Try it out, get used to it and i promise you will never go back
The reason for the placement for the Fn key, is for users to be able to find it in the dark, for a quick illumination (Fn+space) of the keyboard.
Trackpoint can be used without moving your hands. index finger on trackpoint, thumb on physical left mouse buttons
Dude!! Reminds me of the WC Days!! So good to see you back in video.

Other than its usual functions, trackpoint is a must for CAD for real time zooming -in and zooming -out should you do not want to use a mouse.

The track point. I sweat hands big time , so times when the touch pad is not responding because of the sweat , i use the track point.
