Thanks for the re editing of the video. It's awesome to see you forage for wild edibles, like mushrooms, and creating dishes with them. My dad, and his brothers were really good at foraging for wild mushrooms on his farm, in Alberta. I also had another uncle who was good at foraging for wild mushrooms. They were nice and tasty when they were cooked up. One of my (late) aunts also made pierogies, filled with beef and mushrooms. Those were good. I like dumplings of different types, including pot stickers. Can you make pot stickers, using wild mushrooms, and wild greens, that you foraged for in the woods? Cheers, Taku and Jocelyn! #TakuTuesday ✌️
I love morels. we go hunting for them in the Columbia river gorge and in the southern Oregon mountains. I recently bought a handmade pair of clay morel earrings at the southern Oregon makers festival.
Soak your morels in salt water after picking it kills any insects in the mushrooms. Save any water you rinse your morels in after especially after cutting them up. This water contains a lot of spores and should be spread in your backyard for harvesting next season.
Don't soak mushrooms unless they are drying out. Cold running water and a stiff bristled paintbrush are the only way to go. An air compressor with a blower is really helpful too.
Another difference between morels and false morels is in the latter, the cap folds over and overhangs the stem. I.e. there's a gap between the bottom edge of the cap and the stem. In true morels, the pits of the cap are attached to the stem all the way down. Also, false morels have folds, true morels have pits.
Nice video I hunt for Morels here in Ohio Mark where you find them this year and look there and down wind next year Also around where I live The location of where you find Morels is NEVER told to anyone else As many people consider the Morel worth more that Gold
Cool video Taku & Jocelyn!!! Taku was so happy when he found the first morel. Foraging for mushrooms is fun, I would like to forage for magic mushrooms. Lol. 🍄🍄🍄
A little rain can’t stop taku from a catch and cook! Or should I say forage and cook. Haha. Still the result was absolutely amazing. Fresh pasta and morels… I don’t think it gets any better then that. That dish looked absolutely amazing and it was packed full of morels!! I couldn’t even imagine how much that would cost in a restaurant!
Normally not a mushroom fan, but morels have always fascinated me, even as a kid. Something about them look so tasty, and the way people go bonkers over them. Definitely need to give ‘em a shot when the opportunity presents itself.
While you are up in Alaska you should look up Minndak Outdoors. They are in Alaska for the summer too. It would be cool to see some collaboration videos.
Looking forward to more from Alaska this summer! Have you ever thought of heading to the far northen part of the state towards the Arctic ocean? Many places to explore.
have you checked out raina huang? i think? raina is crazy? she's a pro food eater and i'd be highly impressed if you could keep up with her, it would be a great show. you could catch a four foot tuna and she would need a salad afterwards, and by salad I mean a garden.
I will NEVER throw away the water used to rehydrate Morels , save it to make rice I find 3 types of Morels Gray , Brown and Yellow The Yellow Morels are the largest and last to emerge A good way to enjoy Yellow Morels is to stuff them and then grill them I use a nice sausage , rice and hard cheese Pre cook the sausage and rice , grate the cheese Stuff the morels and grill till the cheese is starting to soften Serve on a bed of garden greens with a nice glass of wine
False morels are collected and eaten during spring time here in finland, they are considered a delicacy and are also sold fresh during the spring time, of course the sellers are mandated to put up a sign not to touch the mushrooms since they are toxic when fresh
Morel mushrooms are delicious. I find them fairly often while hiking the woods in Minnesota (my home state) but have even found them in the tropical jungles of Hawaii! An amazing plant.
I've watched this video a couple times because I love hunting Morels and fishing. Tell Jocelyn her hair is gorgeous and I'm sorry for butchering her name. I enjoy watching your videos.
Morels don’t like snow. They come up after the snow melt soaks the soil and as the May Apples start to bloom. At least that is my experience in Kansas and Kentucky, usually the April time frame. Where you find May Apples you will find morel’s.
So a quick search says you are in British Columbia, Close? I can't find anything I know of in the USA with snow and fire near the road recently North of me.
damn i love morrels, i remember going hiking with my family as a kid and finding a bunch of them on the trail and just eating them straight out of the ground
I recommend you study up on the mushrooms and plant life you are so eager to make videos about. This video mis-informs your followers by using colliquial names for 2 different genus of mushrooms. ie: any mushroom not in the Morchella classifaction cannot just be labeled a false morel. You are doing your fan base a dis-service from your lack of knowledge. Also deleting a comment to help you inform your followers is nothing but bad form and shows the true type of person you are. I have unsubscribed to you and refuse to look at any of your videos in the future.
Half of your videos I have no clue what state your in , maybe that would help people. This video doesn't mention what state your in . Or what regions morrells grow other than 10' from snow patches great thanks for all the helpful clues
I collect as many as I can. You aren’t saving them for no one. They are there for a day or so and that’s it. So I pick them, process them and freeze or dry them for future use thru out the year. Last year I think I got 5 lbs. I love to make a mushroom sauce and pound some pork or veal for Jaeger Schnitzel. I am interested in harvesting other types but scared I will get the wrong ones. Would love to find those Lobster mushrooms and others you find but feel safe those are the ones.
sorry I gotta do it. you're a fun-guy. my godfather was a mapmaker and some other stuff and died from a heart attack in his truck 4 days before taking me out mushroom hunting for my "1st time" when he was scouting for chanterelles. fortunately, randomly, my biology teacher maybe 10 years later turned out to be one of his best friends, and we've linked up sometimes to do some mushroom seeking. he's also the one that taught us my first sushi roll. it was veggie, but whatevs, right? when you have the chance, the time, give us more info on how to properly treat fish to avoid any problems. 7 hours right? It's so funny that everyone talks about how fresh things are, and in reality you should freeze it overnight to make it safe. I'm so excited for you 2 getting the van built so now you can go ANYWHERE. oh and good job linking up with rei they're boss.
I'm not sure exactly what you're carrying your mushrooms in, but a LOT of avid mushroom hunters will carry their haul in a mesh bag on the outside of their pack because it encourages any little particles or spores to go to new areas while you hike out, it's a small thing you can do to potentially help yourself and other future shroomies.
Fairly sure Taku has shown the exact same bag you are talking about. Can't recall the video it was in, but I've def seen it. I think he also explains the reason for carrying said bag.
Just call it back I'm trying to leave a bunch of comments because it helps you it makes your video spread a lot more when you do a lot more comments and I'm trying to watch every commercial
If I’m not mistaken what you are calling a false morel are actually what we call a Calf’s brain They appear early in the Pacific Northwest then the morels appear. It’s hard to really tell from video
I hope you threw away all those mushrooms 5:10 not worth cutting open a toxic mushroom next to an edible one as you could get fatally sick from just a tiny morsel of the false morel getting stuck in a crevice of the edible version.
I don’t know if you guys eat fried food but if you do soak them in water get the bugs out pat dry cut in halves Season with your favorite seasoning tumble in flower add so butter to your pan Fry them on both sides for a little bit enjoy “say say bone”
U can use the morel water for lots of stuff , goes great as a soup base cooking pasta is a good idea and my brother likes making stir-fry with dehydrated morels anf uses the water to cook his rice
Nice! Can’t wait to see the Alaska vids. Have you guys ever tried Saskatoon berries? They taste like a mix between blue berries and guava. There’s a spot just outside Anchorage that I hike at that has them.
Broooooo what I didn’t know those are edible I found one n took a pic bc it looked cool… that’s crazy how this video pops up after I find it. I should of ate it
bro to find that many your first time out is amazing. been looking for the last ten years and you have found more in one day than I have total. I'm on the east coast too may be the difference
Never taste Morels, they are not easy to find here in Portugal. From the ones I know, shitakes and shimeiji are my favourite. love to see your videos guys!
Those magic words, "We're going to Alaska for the next three months". I'm soooooo excited to see that. Safe travels.
My dad used to drag us out to hunt for these. He always said 'the first one is always the hardest' and it was true. 💚

What? Morels can’t be cultivated…I think they are just starting this process commercially. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone cultivating morels.
Don't soak mushrooms unless they are drying out. Cold running water and a stiff bristled paintbrush are the only way to go. An air compressor with a blower is really helpful too.

semi-free morels- a true and choice edible morchella sp. are not attached to the stem. See Morchella semilebera. We get a ton of them in the midwest.
Nice video
I hunt for Morels here in Ohio
Mark where you find them this year and look there and down wind next year
Also around where I live

As many people consider the Morel worth more that Gold
Jocelyn, those chives are BEAUTIFUL
It's Still Taku Tuesday somewhere lol!!!
Cool video Taku & Jocelyn!!! Taku was so happy when he found the first morel. Foraging for mushrooms is fun, I would like to forage for magic mushrooms. Lol. 🍄🍄🍄
😋Another mouth watering video! Thank you Taku and Jocelyn. You two are awesome!💗💗💗
Yo, where's the beef? Lol
The rain coming down though. Something about the rain, so romantic.

3:14 i thought you were holding a piece of dog sh*t lmao
You ever get terrible diarrhea and have to cancel your weekend?
You did a great job explaining about when to pick the mushrooms, you are a great cook as always.
wtf i watched this like 3hours ago...
While you are up in Alaska you should look up Minndak Outdoors. They are in Alaska for the summer too. It would be cool to see some collaboration videos.
This takes me back to the first time I found a morel. Good for y’all, they are soooooo good!
Looking forward to more from Alaska this summer! Have you ever thought of heading to the far northen part of the state towards the Arctic ocean? Many places to explore.

Omg!! I'm so glad you're back!! What an awesome video!! Great Cooking video as you have always done before!! 🤗🤗
False morels are collected and eaten during spring time here in finland, they are considered a delicacy and are also sold fresh during the spring time, of course the sellers are mandated to put up a sign not to touch the mushrooms since they are toxic when fresh
Taku Tuesday! Man I love it your passion is endless! Don’t ever stop being your Taku
Morel mushrooms are delicious. I find them fairly often while hiking the woods in Minnesota (my home state) but have even found them in the tropical jungles of Hawaii! An amazing plant.
Always enjoyed your contents! My kind of life. Live vicariously through you both. Keep the love and living life to the fullest 🥳
We found 6 pounds in 2 hours in Central Oregon last week. Around 5400' feet.
I've watched this video a couple times because I love hunting Morels and fishing. Tell Jocelyn her hair is gorgeous and I'm sorry for butchering her name. I enjoy watching your videos.
Do you need a license for Morels? If so, what's the bag limit?
Love your videos man. I’ll be in Seward the beginning of August, my brother lives up there. Cant wait to catch a fat halibut ha. YEWW!

Maybe so, that's up to your own decisions. The ones I'm into are oysters because they are mild.
Love the vids! Thanks for the content!

Here in WV, we gather morels by the bucketful with little to no effort. Delicious
Please tell me where because I never can find any!
My only experience mushroom hunting was looking for morels. Definitely worth the trek.

Don't take all of the Furry Man's dinner, or at least share with him.
Try chicken marsala with morels. My favorite
Craziest looking mushrooms for sure. 🤙
You can't eat that, it doesn't run, fly or swim man... 🤮
Try using flour and egg as batter for the mushrooms and cook em

A LOT more morels than turkeys, sadly.
Good luck in Alaska! Stay safe up there
If you ever want to do a massive morel hunt and really load up for the year. hit me up.
dip them in egg and then dip in crushed crackers and fry them
