Spider-Man: No Way Hoe paced Peter Parker(?) in multiple ethical and moral dilemmas. And with the benefit of hindsight, we can say that Peter did not act responsibly. He nearly eradicated the entire universe, setting up the vents of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Peter's reckless actins endangered multiple realities, including the Amazing-verse and the Raimi-verse. If he had just been willing to live with his hardship and rise above it, then he would still have his life. Instead he acted like an irresponsible, entitled brat--and list everything.

I have a question so Ik that what peter did might not have been the best choice for the universe but in the end he technically did save the universe so do you think that this event could have give him the ability to lift Thor’s hammer and if not do you think that he will eventually be able to lift Thor’s hammer as he learns a little bit more

This is just another reason why I love this movie so much. It shows the humanity of Peter and his internal moral dilemma. He’s a kid who doesn’t think through his options. His first thought is to erase the memory of the people and as the impulsive kid that he is, that’s what he tries to do. Once the villains came to his universe, we see what truly makes Peter Parker such a great hero. Peter values human life so much that he didn’t even consider the greater consequences, especially after his conversation with May. All that mattered to him were the lives in front of him.

That is 1000x of times worse than Thanos. The moment Strange knew that Peter was willing to do that, he should have gone with lethal force.

It doesn't matter if his mission of fixing 5 bad guys was a success or not my point was that spiderman was willing to let trillions die for 5 bad guys he didn't know could be redeemed.
I didn't say the solution to every problem was to kill it. I said the moment spiderman said he was okay with risking trillions of lives, it was strange's duty as the Sorcerer Supreme to defend his reality at all costs.

He's supposed to be 17 years old now. But the film reduces him to a child. Everything Peter does is beneath the expected judgement of a 17 year old.
When caught in a lie - you want to to use magic to make other people forget?
When confronted with evil - you want to 'fix' them with magical potions or chemicals.
You will make them take the potions for their own good whether they want them or not.
And they will grateful and become 'good' instead of 'evil' now.
Who knew evil could be so easily cured. lol. (7 year olds know this before they learn better by the time they are 13)
You will wipe peoples minds for their own good whether they want this or not.
All to cover up your lie, about your identity?
This itself is not possibly an immoral and cowardly act - on your part?
The thought that what you are doing is wrong, never occurs to you?
Dr. Strange - the wisest person you know will help you, because he agrees that helping you and your friends get into an elite college is worth the risk of destabilizing the Universe, and there is no ethical concern whatsoever for erasing the memory of everyone in the Universe in order to do it.
Again - if this is written by 13 year old for their 7 year old little brother or sister - then I get it.
But grown-@zz folks watching this without either laughing or cringing at it: I don't get it.

@@summertyme5748 To your first point not everyone matures the same and thinks the exact same as you. Peter was being persecuted for a crime he did not commit even though he was found innocent him and his loved ones are suffering from people wanting to cancel him. He made a mistake like many people do asking Strange. He was under great stress and wasn't thinking straight and no one knows what they would do in this scenario. What would you do if all of your friends and family were the subject of a witch hunt for something that you didn't do and you knew a powerful wizard who could help you, the truth is you don't because thinking and being in the situation are two different things. He saw a way to fix it and being reveled there was a way out of the suffering him and those closest to him were suffering and did not read the fine print and suffered the consequences.
To your second point. He learned that all of these people were suffering from specific conditions where 2 of them are literally being controlled by an alternate personalities caused by serums they took another is being controlled by a rogue AI, the fourth is suffering from mental problems caused by their accident and the fifth tried to save him and wants to be with his kid. They all deserved a second chance and not Peter being the Punisher and sentencing them to death. This is different then the common crook or super villain doing this for money, power, or a twisted crusade which is what everyone else does. Spider-Man is a good and optimistic person and is not someone like Batman who would still likely cure them so they did not die which was the other part of what Peter wanted to do because although he did not legally have to save their lives it was still something morally right.
Peter could not get into any college and since I am assuming you are above the age of 17 and have at least applied from college you should realize how bad it is that you can't get into any College and what that will do for your future. This is not some kids movie where everything can be resolved by a song and dance.
Finally only a 7 year old would not realize that adults (which Peter basically is) can and will still make mistakes and are not perfect people who do absolutely nothing wrong and make no mistakes at all.

The Peter at the end of the movie is finally Spider-Man. Part of being Spider-Man is having the losses that now he has. He has been told at this point "With great power comes great responsibility" and he now has a full understanding of it. Up until this everything has worked out for him, even the Thanos incident. At the end of it everyone was saved. Lost Natasha and Gamora but even her we got 'back' in a round about way, will take a movie to catch her up to speed but we'll get there I have no doubt.

no, only way the timeline wouldn't be affected is if they still die/are captured (Lizard and Sandman weren't killed), but there isn't enough time for them to do anything differently. If GG returns just before the glider hits him all's fine as he didn't really have time to change anything. Doc Oc would have to come back right when he regained control of his arms to sink the fusion reactor and still sacrifice himself. The biggest issues would be the ones who didn't die. While they wouldn't have information about future events, they now have knowledge that the multiverse is real. They'll continue to live, but they're not the same ppl they were and would change the timeline just be living. Not to mention wasn't the Lizard cured at one point, but re-mutated himself?

Think about it, Otto said it was when he had Peter by the neck, electro speaks about the grid, the green goblin never speaks about his fight with Peter. He was probably taken after he found out Spider-Man’s identity, after the dinner where he noticed the cut, and sometime before the bridge battle. Maybe just before or directly after he sent aunt May to the hospital by bombing her home. Not my theory btw, I just added someone’s theory to my own thoughts

Would the Andrew Garfield’s spider man then have the chance to make things right with Harry Osmond? I’m just thinking of all the possible outcomes of the reality. However if you can’t undo the past like Bruce Banner stated then regardless of what happened in this timeline everything would end up the same and they would all still be dead or whatever happened to them In their timeline still applies. Unlesssssssssss we are to believe that these timelines are happening at the same time. Did the villains get pulled from their moment in time into no ways home. Although peter did not know about magic, the multiverse (especially on a grand calculus) and how it all works, one thing I noticed while watching was that since doctor strange mentioned its the villains fate that they did fighting spider man, peter trying to change them and turn them good was also tampering with the multiverse.
That's because everyone's lives and fates are planned , predetermined and predestined and doing/being something that ur not supposed to damaged the fabric of reality. This has a connection to what if ep 4 where strange tried to bring back christine and the ancient one explains to him that it her death was predetermined and bringing her back would damage reality. Basically, its the same case with peter.

  • @Marc007rj

    • @Tyler_W
      @Tyler_W 2 года назад +3

Correct. The fact these villains appeared in the MCU in the first place already created new timelines because they were variants. The past movies happened the way they happened. Nothing about this movie changes that. Strange basically wanted to erase the variants to prevent the existence of new timelines, but because their appearance already changed things, Peter wanted to at least do some good by at least giving them the option to take advantage of their newfound set of choices, and by helping them, emabling them to make better ones. There was nothing wrong with Peter's choice to save them, and Strange was willing to sacrifice human lives in the name of "the greater good," which itself is incredibly questionable. He was wrong for fighting Spider-Man, because as the ending showed, they both got their way in the end, and they wouldn't have even risked their reality being destroyed if they both worked together towards both of their goals. Peter made the wrong call by asking Strange to cast the original spell, but Strange caused the rest of the mess because of his own questionable utilitarian ethics.

Literally all of the villains he has fought found out his identity, so he’ll be living a very lonely life. He probably should’ve focused on changing the false accusations rather than his identity being revealed.

I've heard the argument about Vulture and Mysterio being Tony's fault but looking back into those movies Spider Man just made it worse. The line "with great power comes great responsibility" doesn't apply in these scenarios. He created the issues so he HAS to fix them. the film says he was rash in asking for the spell and the consequences of his actions were potentially dire, but it never acknowledges that he was wrong for trying to save them, rather it rewards his actions with both success in 'curing' the bad guys , whereupon they immediately become model citizens, and his sacrifice, which stands as yet another act to prove his heroic status.
It says he is young impulsive and a little naive but never morally questionable. In point of fact you could argue he never actually suffers the consequences but rather that he chooses the consequences. The people his actions affect never get such a choice.
The film never acknowledges his arrogance in action, both in terms of believing he can do something his others selves and universes could not, and that he fully understands why these men are the way they are.
Garfield says, 'max was the sweetest guy', except we all saw that he was going off the deep-end long before the vat of eels . He was a paranoid outsider with an obsessive fixation and inferiority complex. Unless Spidey becomes his best friend i'd be willing to bet your average psychiatrist would be amazed if he was cured and now he knows exactly how to get super powers.
Osbourne might have gone insane, but it happened because he was an arrogant selfish man with an insane lust for power. Conners actions started long before he turned into a lizard, and lets not forget that spiderman himself is a result of a similar fusion of raw experimental science. The previous films all essentially make the point that who you are matters and thats why spidey becomes a hero while others become villains, the science only enhances the flaws within, the man still makes the choices. This film completely contradicts this, while simultaneously doubling down on the idea that spiderman is somehow unique and special, above the others.
Its not a condemnation of spiderman, its a condemnation of the thinking behind the writing. a simplistic and twisted idea of morality, that says on the one hand all life matters while on the other takes away all that makes life matter. The villains have no free will - they exercised that and it led to the fate that Peter has now denied them. And instead of them demonstrating that free will again, the film shows them as essentially nothing but puppets, grateful and obedient to his intent. It also denies the value of all who are injured and killed by their actions, their suffering doesn't matter somehow, their lives, aunt mays life, is somehow acceptable collateral in the fight to save these dangerous criminals, megalomaniacs and murderers, not ironically because they are worth anything, but because spiderman is.

Did aunt May have a problem with them killing Thanos? Because they would have only been risking half the lives that they were risking in No Way Home, had they looked for an injectable cure to stop him from wanting to snap. It's the same thing... Ridiculous.
Obviously Strange made a bad choice to help Peter in the first place. But as soon as Peter hears what will certainly happen if they don't quickly send everyone back before something damages the box, even doing so much as a cartwheel with it in hand becomes an act of egregious recklessness.
He does not get points for anything. It's selfish. Shortsighted. And that goes double for Aunt May. She cannot possibly preach responsibility. It's one of the most irresponsible act in all the MCU. Especially considering that even if he is successful, the best case scenario is a handful of murderous villains won't die and will be better people for their remaining time on an alternate earth. And viewers would see that if instead of the consequence being the destruction of reality, it was literally an atomic bomb that would only nuke the whole planet. But because they keep it vague, the audience can be persuaded to go along.

Spider-Man may have been wrong, but it’s the culmination of heroic mistakes that will ultimately make the story of Kang that much greater than Infinity War/Endgame, which looking back was a bit more like a multi-film MacGuffin-fest.

All the evidence presented were some brief video clips taken out of context and people are well aware that such manipulation is easily possible.
Also, Spider-Man was famous and loved and well known to have assisted in fighting Thanos. He was an Avenger.
Wouldn’t the Avengers vouch for him and explain that Mysterio was a fraud?

As soon as Electro had one more line to complete on the arc reactor, that is when Norman has to turn into the Green Goblin. The sandman was harmless. Let’s get clear on something Spidey fans will try to confuse.
This spell involves wiping the memory of everyone on the planet against their will.
    It is inherently evil.
It is not done with even a sociopath’s lying excuse - of being for their own good.
It’s done to help Peter and his friends at everyone else’s expense.
Peter Parker is not evil or stupid - until now - so there is no way he would ever ask for such an evil scheme.
Dr. Strange was never evil or stupid - until now.
The reason these two characters regress into stupidly is crystal clear: LAZY WRITING.
That was the easiest way to quickly get the end result of nostalgia p0rn - were the Sony + MCU SpiderMen can circle jerk and the kids and arrested adolescents can scream: BEST FILM EVER!
And that is the REAL basis for the film’s popularity. It’s an admittedly brilliant marketing scam. And, a BAD film.

  • @RicardoPetinga
    @RicardoPetinga 2 года назад +6

Nah. Peter was right. He was right because his only claim was that "There has to be another way". And there was. (Warning: rant incoming)
If Strange had at least considered that there was he could have helped and expedited the whole process instead of delaying everything and allowing the situation to escalate. Peter could've worked on the cures for the "bad guys" (I'm using quotation marks because they weren't all bad guys) without having to trap Strange and release them, which led to Norman Osborn ruining the whole thing and then it was only fixed because two other Peters were accidentally brought in and helped. Down the line maybe there will be an argument to be made that it was no accident and that maybe Madame Web influenced that outcome, but for now, for all we know, it was just luck. The tears between universes only started getting seriously dangerous after some time, and everything could have been solved before that if Strange had at least listened. In fact, now that I think of it, didn't they only appear after the magic box was destroyed?
The thing with "objectivity" and facts is that whether their perception is accurate and complete or not is largely dependent on the subjectivity of the perceiver. Strange's subjectivity also got in the way. He took it as dogma that there was no other way, and he was wrong. The problem with Strange has always been a lack of humility and the arrogance to always think he knows what the best course of action is. Sometimes he gets it right, sometimes he gets it wrong. The Time Stone made it easier to make those assessments, but he no longer has it. His intentions were good, but so were Peter's, so it's not a matter of intention. Again, much like in Civil War, No Way Home presents a conflict between utilitarian ethics (Stark and Strange) and deontological ethics (Rogers and Parker). Both movies argue against utilitarian ethics and in favour of deontological ethics. Now, that conflict doesn't have to be an absolutist and false dichotomy, and one can philosophize about either of them being possibly more correct than the other in different situations. Maybe some situations call for utilitarianism, while others call for deontology. Personally, I favor deontological ethics. And clearly, in this case, Doc Strange's utilitarianism just made a bad situation worse. Not that he wouldn't have returned everything to normalcy if he had had his way. He would've. But that normalcy had a few problems that Peter knew he had to at least try to fix, so they could all get a better outcome.
Besides all that, Peter is a teenager. He may be very intelligent and great with science, but he knows nothing about magic, so to put it on him that he's the one that should have thought about the possible consequences of casting that spell is very unfair. He went to someone he got to know as the Sorcerer Supreme, an adult, a doctor, more knowledgeable in magic than anyone else, someone who he witnessed using magic to foresee millions of potential futures and by whose side he fought to save the universe, so it's natural that Peter would trust him. Even worse, Strange used to be a surgeon, so he should be very well aware that before starting any operation there needs to be a conversation with the person undergoing that operation about the procedure, its risks and possible consequences, and how it's supposed to play out. He should have informed that the request should be very specific, and asked if there should be exceptions to it, and he should've taken care of all that beforehand. Strange did none of that and instead went straight into it. Did he assume Peter should have known better? He shouldn't have, because obviously Peter wouldn't know better. Strange was the irresponsible one, not Peter. Peter wasn't even the one who suggested that particular spell he didn't even know was possible or existed, he went in there just thinking about the Time Stone's capabilities and asking questions about what could be done to remedy his situation. Did Wong end up warning them it was dangerous in the movie too or was it just in the trailer? Either way, Wong started out implying it was a bad idea but then ended up just washing his hands of it, like he was convinced by Strange, so what was Peter supposed to think there when two adult master sorcerers pretty much approved or at least not entirely disapproved of casting the spell?
Peter wasn't wrong. And "Thanos was right"? No. Thanos was wrong. Very wrong. Renegade Cut has the best video I've seen explaining why, and I highly recommend it. Just search for "Renegade Cut Thanos was wrong".
