  • Namibia We are often asked - why do we go into the wilderness and flirt with the unknown.
This journey to the Kunene is a way of life outside the schedule. There is no destination and therefore all we have is the journey. Our day starts at first light and we continue until the sun sets.
We surrender to this celestial cycle of nature.
This brings with it, constant change and nothing is certain.
It's a reminder that life, at its core, is a series of unfolding moments, and the true beauty lies in our ability to navigate them with an open heart and inquisitive mind.
Driving through the mining camp, we are reminded of the grim existence this is of fortunes found and lost.
It is here where the are mining the famous Brandberg quartz comes from and over the Distinctive Tafelkop mountain they are minging copper.
    It is real frontier country
We encounter a mining camp that
mountains that eventually take us into the Ugab river vall. The Goboboseb Mountains cover an area of 1100 km² and are assigned to the Awahab Formation consisting of interbedded basalts and quartz latites that form part of the 132-135 million-year-old Etendeka Group. Strong evidence suggests the source of the Goboboseb volcanic rocks comes from the Messum Complex. The highest peak of these mountains is the Tafelkop.
Todays route takes us along interlinking 4x4 trails through the Goboboseb Mountains.
We realise that is real frontier country when, we spot staked claims and mining operations.
Amidst this stark beauty, we drive through a Gobobosed mining camp-a place that carries echoes of both fortunes gained and dreams lost. It’s here that the renowned Brandberg quartz is extracted, a gem that holds the secrets of the Earth’s past within its crystalline depths. And beyond the distinctive silhouette of Tafelkop mountain, copper is mined, a metal that has shaped the course of human history.
The Ugab river is not just another dry river bed in Namibia, but it is the life force that sustains the elusive free roaming black rhino and the rare desert elephants.
Until recently lions also roamed the banks.
In our opinion it has all the makings of a wildcamp. We venture in and explore upstream and decide on a beautiful spot for the night against an imposing rockface.
A word of caution here - before venturing into this river yourself- the ugab is ephemeral and is subject to seasonal flooding.

Haha this one resonated with your sanity, not often appreciated enough. The wilderness is definitely a rebooting of some sort.
Agreed 1440 is great on most handheld devices. Watch it on a big screen and the difference is noticeable.

What a wonderful place to wake up in and surrounded by fog, all in complete peace and serenity! Just wondered how you were viewed by the prospectors? The scenery is awesome, the many colours of the koppies (mountains) -- did you find any Boesmans paintings? I liked your warning about the flash flooding of the river, so happy to see you driving so close to the side of the mountain. Will you be able to climb it, if the river came down? Supper looks delicious!!!♥♥♥

I really like your videos. But please do not mention where you find the rhino's. You do know the reason.

    • @SoulTonicLife
      @SoulTonicLife  11 месяцев назад

Oh shucks…did I mention a Rhino location? Unfortunately the Ugab Save the Rhino Trust Camp is the name of the camp. I have not seen a Rhino in this region in all the times I have been lucky enough to visit the region. Poachers are using another layer of intelligence to access the endangered animals as the recent controversial hunt of a lion in the region. It’s always a fine balance of promoting the region to “the right kind” of tourist vs attracting the wrong crowd. We like to think that more tourist in the region would tip the economy in favour of saving the Rhinos.
