  • In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I continue to try and deplete our wood stash. I felt I deserved a nicer piece of Harry’s wood this week after last week’s rotten wood so I grab a chuck of maple burl! This was a gorgeous piece of wood that had so much character in the grain.
    I wanted to try something different so I used a needle scaler to give it a subtle texture around the rim. You can find these on Amazon in the link below.
    Needle Scaler: amzn.to/3PyW9s9
    I was also super impressed with how well my homemade negative rake scraper worked. Can’t beat a tool for under $15.
    3/8in x 8 High Speed Steel: amzn.to/3BKsvdX
    We hope you enjoy this woodworking video.

    Wow Robert what a beautiful bowl the grain is fantastic, I really didn't realize that the vacuum would have warped the bowl that much, something to look out for

      Yeah, I was a bit surprised as well when it still showed it being about 1/8in thick at the bottom.

    That's beautiful, Robert. That was a fantastic piece of wood. If you sent those cutoffs to DD, he would cast them in resin and make something. And don't forget to keep Harry away from that vacuum chuck. Who made those double ended calipers you were using?
    Bill

  • @dalehaskin870
    @dalehaskin870 Год назад +1

    Dale Haskin, very nice job, like the rust chipper texture. Vacuum chucks are not for me, I sucked out the bottom of beautiful lacewood bowl, live and learn. PS everything was good except for the talking beaver, lol.

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Год назад

      Thanks Dale! I really thought I was close to having a funnel on this one but after I took it off I still had about an 1/8 inch. I couldn't believe how much the vacuum was making it move.

    What air power tool you were using called?

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Год назад

      It's called a needle scaler. I believe it's main intention is for removing rust from metal.

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  Год назад

      Yeah, Didn't really add the amount of texture I was looking for. Thanks for watching!
