Woodturning - Stunning Grain in this Burl

- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2024
- In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I continue to try and deplete our wood stash. I felt I deserved a nicer piece of Harry’s wood this week after last week’s rotten wood so I grab a chuck of maple burl! This was a gorgeous piece of wood that had so much character in the grain.
I wanted to try something different so I used a needle scaler to give it a subtle texture around the rim. You can find these on Amazon in the link below.

I was also super impressed with how well my homemade negative rake scraper worked. Can’t beat a tool for under $15.

We hope you enjoy this woodworking video.

Wow Robert what a beautiful bowl the grain is fantastic, I really didn't realize that the vacuum would have warped the bowl that much, something to look out for
Yeah, I was a bit surprised as well when it still showed it being about 1/8in thick at the bottom.
...man, that grain is just gorgeous!...and I love the shape..."👍🍻
Thanks zhawkeye!
Absolutely gorgeous Robert.
Thanks Jack!
Awesome bowl, Robert! Really pretty grain... I love burls!
Thanks Billy! Me too! I think I may have to splurge at SWAT next year and pick out some nice ones to turn.
Beautiful looking piece Robert, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching Gary!
that is stunning Robert.
Thanks so much Steve!
WOW thats Stunning I love the recessed undercut rim think I might have to try that
Thanks Colin! Go for it!
Beautiful piece 👍. Love the grain
Thank you very much! Everyone loves burls!
Looks good, Robert.
Thanks so much Brad!
Absolutely beautiful 👍
Thanks Phil!
beautiful, Robert
Thanks Ward!
Very nice. That wood is beautiful
It sure is! Makes me want to move to Oregon so I can get more of it for cheaper!
That's a Beautiful Burl.
You turned an absolutely beautiful piece.
Your choice of finish was spot on 👍.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much Carl!
WOW Harry, what a beautiful piece of wood. The grain is amazing and Robert did a wonderful job making an absolutely beautiful bowl.
Thanks a lot Jean! Wish I could get my hands on more burl!
Wow nicely done. 👌
Thanks! Glad you think so!
lovely maple burl piece, keep'em coming Hodge
I'll try Brent!
Beautiful 👌!
Thanks a bunch!
And I work extra hard to not leave tool marks in my projects. I must be missing something. Nice job.
Haha! Just wait till I intentionally leave some bowl gouge marks on a piece! I took a class with Al Stirt once where we did that.
The shape you chose compliments the grain beautifully. Very nice job.
Thanks so much!
Very nice Robert. Harry your wood went to good cause. Merry Christmas
Thanks Jane!
great job
Thanks so much Mark!
Love this one Hodge! It’s beautiful!
Thanks Seth!
Beautiful wood and you did a fantastic job with it 👏 😀 👍
Thank you very much Tim!
What a beautiful piece you came up with. Well done!
Thank you very much Doug!
Damn Harry was quite thirsty by the end of it 😳😳
Yep, he was quenched!
Your wood looks so hard in this one!
😏
Looks a lot like the Cherry Burl I've been turning lately, whatever it is, it's an absolute beauty!
Thanks Scott! Burls are always a good time!
What can I say that hasn't been said.😘😘💋💋 Merry Christmas boys, hope you have a happy one.⛄⛄😘😘
Très jolie bravo 👍👏
Thanks!
Mmmmmm, maple burl. Love the design. If Harry gets a new girl friend and changes his mind about staying single, you can give him the bowl for his wedding consumption.🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Valerie. I wish I could get my hands on more burl! It's got such amazing grain!
That's beautiful, Robert. That was a fantastic piece of wood. If you sent those cutoffs to DD, he would cast them in resin and make something. And don't forget to keep Harry away from that vacuum chuck. Who made those double ended calipers you were using?
Bill
WOW..... that is all
Thanks! madrone burl is definitely one of my favorites!
Very lovely piece. It's burl but from what kind of tree?
Thanks Judith, this was a piece of Maple Burl.
Keep him right Harry.
I won't let a beaver control me!
Hey Robert. What are you wiping down that bowl with?
Mahoney's Walnut oil is the finish on this one.
Dale Haskin, very nice job, like the rust chipper texture. Vacuum chucks are not for me, I sucked out the bottom of beautiful lacewood bowl, live and learn. PS everything was good except for the talking beaver, lol.
Thanks Dale! I really thought I was close to having a funnel on this one but after I took it off I still had about an 1/8 inch. I couldn't believe how much the vacuum was making it move.
beautiful, can I ask what finish you used?
I used Mahoney's Walnut oil
@@HodgePodgeWoodWorks thank you
What air power tool you were using called?
It's called a needle scaler. I believe it's main intention is for removing rust from metal.
Nice piece. Not sure the texturing tool was needed, it did not seem to add any value.
Yeah, Didn't really add the amount of texture I was looking for. Thanks for watching!
Utter filth. More, please!
Haha! You got it!
