Howdy - I'm a beginner and enjoy watching and listening to you. I have a very long way to go to understand wood and developing my turning techniques. Watching you is a inspiration. Thanks for your videos.
🙋♂️🏴 Hi Phil as I've before I'm not a wood turner just enjoy you at work another brilliant piece created. Anyone out there interested in wood turning this is the man to emulate. Cheers Phil.
Good morning Phil, First of all thanks to Luie for sending this to you for us to enjoy. It looks fantastic Phil and the bark is amazing. The grain is amazing and your finish allows it to shout from the roof tops. Great video Phil. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
Before I forget, thank you for the referral to the store in Auburn. That is a really great sore. Really helpful and friendly people there. I ended up buying a new Powermatic lathe from them.
OH, how cool is that! Yes, very helpful, very friendly. They often have factory defect pieces they sell at a steep discount. That's how I got my lathe from them. They had two, my Jet and a Powermatic 3520 for the same $2K. The Jet was new with a scuff on the label, the 3520 had been used as a demo and had finish spilled all over the backside of it. I chose the Jet and I love it! Enjoy your new lathe! 😃
WOW WOW WOW I thought the defects were part of the features of the wood. You make ALL defects as part of your turnings, no one knows that it wasn't part of the origin design!!!! GREAT JOB AGAIN. 🏆 KEEP ON TURNING
I don’t leave comments very often because I I am unable to get responses back, so I don’t know where if you respond but it’s your pleasure watching you turn on your Leah, most everybody else turns the word down to nothing to get rid of the bark in the inclusions. Some of that bar in the inclusions are so gorgeous the colors and you leave them in which makes the product that you turn so gorgeous.
Oh, it just kills me that some of my viewers can't see that I reply back, Ken. I guess you can't see this but if you could change your RUclips settings to notify you, you will see all comments and replies. 😃
Another beautiful piece from Shady Acres Workshop. Just love the grain and shape of this bowl. The natural beauty really comes out. Thanks for sharing.
It is ironic that I landed on this video today. Yesterday I was given a black cherry piece of wood that was headed for the fireplace. Glad I got to see this and hope I can do justice to this piece given to me.
I don't know why but when you broke out your Sand-o-Flex, it reminded me of how much I dislike trimming my toenails. Nobody told me that as I got older my hair would thin out, but my toenails would become Talons.ha
Well, you said it. It is beautiful, perfect. I've never seen black cherry turned nor anything else. I've eaten more than a few black cherries but never seen the wood. Man that is good looking wood and a great looking bowl. Thanks once again Phil.
Hi Phil what a marvellous piece of black cherry it has really nice grain and it shines up really well. The live edge bowl is really fabulous. I love all that you turn on the lathe, you always make lovely pieces in fact you always work well with any piece of wood. Phil you really are a masterwoodturner. Amanda xx
Wow Phil you are right. It is simply beautiful. I think that is the best shellac finish I have ever seen. Wow is that nice. Sure glad you were able to use that beauty mark in your design. Really adds to the perfect look. Take care, Gary
Wow, that is absolutely beautiful, Phil. Kudos to Luie! What a generous guy! Really enjoyed this video, my friend. Keep them coming, buddy! Take care, …..Gord
Graceful shape, beautiful figure and color; the darker bark adds a wonderful contrast, too. I really enjoy turning cherry and it finishes so nicely with shellac. My wife and I really like live edge bowls (when the bark cooperates). A natural edge is a close second.
First time to ever comment to anyone on youtube. You do what I enjoy very much, taking things many see as not worth much and massage them into something useful and beautiful. My wife and I always look forward to your next project. Your always entertaining and the bowls are great. Now i'm looking for a lathe. Thank you
Thank you on so many levels, Kevin! For speaking up, for watching WITH YOUR WIFE, (my favorite thing) and for considering the hobby for yourself. I appreciate your comment, thank you! 😃
I absolutely love the grain of that wood. It is more than beautiful. And the bark is spectacular as well. You know how to make it all show up, very nice. Love watching you turn, very satisfying. Keep on keeping on my friend!
lovely piece indeed. It is always a treat to watch you work. I am sitting here watching your video after my first somewhat major accident on the lathe. Thank goodness I had my shield on today. I will live to concur this bowl another day.
That is amazing Phil. Love the grain and most of all color. I'm sure the video of it doesn't do it justice. Really like black cherry as much as I love how my Virginia Applewood I have. Sands so smooth
Wow!! I was a bit nervous about this piece before you mounted it up. I was afraid that "flaw" would come apart during the turning. Once again, you managed to create another wonderful piece of art.
Phil ! The bark on his is sooo beautiful. Wow. ....Snowed here yesterday. Breakup at the lake though; still shush along the far shore. No dipping zeu toes in zeu watère yet.
Hi Phil, I discovered your recently on You Tube and subscribed to your channel. I started turning about 2 years ago having retired about 4 years ago. I particularly like your style of turning because it is similar to what I enjoy. Almost all my wood comes out of the wood pile of fuel for the stove and I enjoy the challenge of making “something” from a lump ratter than a blank, also the more inclusions, defects etc the better, the finished piece is far more interesting. Looking forward to watching your regularly. Edward.

Thank you, Norm, I'm glad you're here! 😀
Outstanding piece! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! 😊

I appreciate that, Huw, thank you and yeah, without Luie we would not have this little beauty! 😃

😃
Beautiful black cherry bowl. I was afraid the wood would be moist due to the wax. Perfect rendition of natural wood exposing it's charm. 🌳
😃
Wow Phil you are right. It is simply beautiful. I think that is the best shellac finish I have ever seen. Wow is that nice.
Sure glad you were able to use that beauty mark in your design. Really adds to the perfect look.
