OMG! That tiny slip is adorable & definitely a must have for girls back in the day. I was an 80's girl, so every time I'd wear a full circle skirt, I'd have a slip underneath to fill it out (make it poofy). It was definitely a necessity for turning a look. I still have a similar pair of Barbie panties that survived my childhood.

    • @AnzuMiruku
      @AnzuMiruku Год назад +8

Exactly! It’s not weird at all. The “under pretties” weren’t intended to be worn on Skipper by itself. Slips were a closet staple then. I remember my mom owned a slip in every length and color in the 80s and 90s. Skipper is meant to wear it under her dresses to make them poofier, and prettier if the lace trim peeks below the hem. 🤍

    • @nilawarriorprincess

Malibu Skipper: Sunscreen / Where are the parents?
Growing up in the 80's and 90's, well past the 70's, I don't think I remember sunscreen being used much at all. It was always that coconut scented tanning oil. Then you'd get yourself coated in aloe gel. For Gen-X and Xennials, the parents were often nowhere to be found. Safety be damned. You know, "Bye mom, I'm going with 5 girls I've never met before to play Barbies behind some random abandoned steel mill." And your mom just reply "Okay dear, come home before the street lights come on".

I love Skipper , and I think the late 80s to early 90s produced the CUTEST Skipper dolls. Her big sparkly eyes and poofy hair was everything. 🥹💖 I think my favorite Skipper face mold is the Sun Sensation Skipper doll from 1991. She reminds me of Licca Chan. I also own Teen Time Courtney and she is too adorable especially in her white and red polka dot nightgown! ❤

I had no idea Skipper had so many friends/boyfriends. I wasn’t allowed to have Barbie dolls as a kid and my daughter didn’t show any interest in Barbies until she started watching the animated shows. She actually started with the baby sitting Skipper (brunette with purple streaks and 2 babies) followed by Barbie with puppies, and then Stacie & Chelsea with camping gear. She loves them, but I am very disappointed that so many Barbie dolls (especially ones that come with accessories/play sets) have cheap clothes, little to no articulation, and bad hair.

I have the Extreme Green Teen Skipper Doll except Mine was weird. She Black Hiking boots with tread, an insertable peg ring on one hand peg style purple earrings, and Dutch Boy Bangs with her long blond hair and she had a Green Corduroy outfit with a green black and purple striped shirt. I was always able to tell Tall Teen Skipper apart from my Barbie dolls though because Barbie I always thought had a slightly different eye shape mouth line and such.

My friend and I were talking about the wedding Barbies the other day because I had at least a full size one and at least a couple McDonald's happy meal ones. I think the idea of Barbie is that she can be anything. She's not supposed to be canonically married but it's important for girls to understand that there's nothing wrong with being married/domestic if that's what they WANT to do. Barbie is about representation.

I’ve been collecting Barbie since I was 4, and I’m 53 now. I remember getting my growing up Skipper (and Ginger), of course I still have them. I remember as a child adoring her and liking the way her age could change but never once did I see her as a being sexualised as per the newspaper article, sometimes kids don’t think what adults think they think I guess…

In 16:34, there was actually a comic strip in one of the Barbie magazines (I think) where they explained why Skipper suddenly have brown hair - she dyed it and Barbie helped her with it. I don't remember much about what happened other than Skipper wanting to change her hair color and that's it.
I'm not sure if Joey is aware but they did make an articulated Skipper in the 2010s on one of the "Barbie and Sisters" line, she came with Chelsea or Stacie, I think but it's a camp set. Skip has articulated elbows and wrists.
EDIT: It's a Hula set with Skipper and Chelsea - she also has articulated knees which is cool!

There are five official Barbie siblings the rarest set to find is Tutti and Todd. The twins, not to be confused with Stacy/Krissy who Todd was often paired with as a twin. The Barbie siblings are
    Barbie
    Skipper
    Stacy
    Shelly/Kelly/Chelsea
    Tutti and Todd.
Krissy was an add on and often paired with Todd as infants or young toddlers. Tutti and Todd had their own friends set and were more bendable and a bodies similar to rag dolls. Tutti is one of the hardest to find because she was replaced by others. It is important to note that none of the doll not even Krissy were ever marketed as Barbie's children. All were either siblings, cousins, or friends.
