Guys be careful. The new AW15 and 17's suffer from hot running CPU's! 90C-100C is supposedly normal. Compared to 80C max on other models. Alienware has to fix these issues. I'm personally awaiting my 3rd AW15! Each one had problems! EDIT: Call AW directly if you have any issues, they have excellent service. The temp issues are under control with the use of new thermal paste. Still do a check for light bleed. Overall stellar laptop.
Peter G do you mind giving me a update after you get your replacement? planning on getting this lap top but would like to know when they fix the problem

No they haven't. This is a hardware issue. The heat sink isn't seated evenly causing overheating and core differentials. Flashing BIOS doesn't fix the problems just lowers the temperatures sometimes.
Just ordered an Alienware 15 R3! I've watched so many of your reviews, and I've always appreciated your attention to detail in all of them. Can't wait to see more!
Western Gents United I'm pretty excited. My 2013 13" MBA was stolen earlier this year, and while I've been eyeing windows 10 machines a lot recently I'm really excited for the performance boost. MBA's throttle while playing minecraft for fucks sake.
I used to have an old dell inspiron and it the touch pad was so soft and the keyboard as well are the same as this alienware’s hence the reason i love it so much, it feels so classic and not cheap like other laptops with chiklet keys
Great review, I just subscribed. I get my 15 r3 in a couple of weeks straight from Dell (returning my 17r4 for this more compact size). Following the forums, it seems like the earlier thermal issues (100C temps) have been mostly resolved. Also, with my 17r4 I was able to undervolt the CPU to about -.150 and cool its max temp by 10C.
I love it so far. I bought a refurbished 15-inch R3 base model off the Dell Outlet. It has a BEAUTIFUL 60Hz IPS display with G-Sync. Seriously guys, BEAUTIFUL. This is the BASE model 1080p screen and I am blown AWAY by the image and motion quality. It's nice that it has G-Sync too. CPU is a i5-7300HQ, and it has a 2GB NVidia GTX 1050Ti. It has the big 99Whr battery, and I upgraded the RAM and SSD myself. The CPU and GPU combo may sound weak to some of you, but I assure you that in GTA V and CS:GO, I am NEVER getting under 60FPS EVER at high/very high settings, (and I don't thing G-Sync lets it go any higher). This is the most demanding titles that I play, so your mileage may vary. The thermals on this unit are good. 50's-low 70's under full gaming load, and never more than 3-4 degrees variance between cores, so Dell definitely fixed the thermal problems with the last generation. Out of the box, the killer 1535 wifi card was dropping connection on me, but a driver update has fixed that problem. Now the ONLY issue I have is with audio sounding kinda blown out through the speakers when turned up. I will keep messing with drivers, but honestly, I almost always have headphones plugged in so it's not that important to me. Speakers sound fine when volume is turned down. Guys, for the price, this laptop is awesome build quality, and the screen is gorgeous. A very high quality IPS panel in this one (even for a base model) For spending about $1450 US, I got this laptop, PLUS all my upgrades (512 GB Samsung SSD, 32GB RAM, a gaming mouse, new headset, and xbox controller). Can't beat it. If you are a modest gamer like me, don't mess around with that Inspiron Gaming 7557 and it's crappy screen, basic keyboard, wifi card, and small battery. For just a bit more money, hit the Dell Outlet and pickup one of these base model alienware 15s. The build quality is SO much better, and the beautiful IPS screen and 99Whr battery on the alienware ALONE make it worth the extra money. Don't be scared off by the 2GB 1050Ti either. You won't be turning AAA titles up to Ultra settings anyways on an Inspiron, and with this screen + Gsync, you only need to sustain 60FPS as a maximum cap. For GTA V and CS:GO it is MORE than enough. Dell Outlet is awesome way to save a couple hundred bucks and still get the best. I'd go for the 7th gen CPU models though, to avoid any thermal issues they had with the 6th gen models. Cheers to Western Gents for awesome reviews of this laptop which helped me decide. No Regrets.
+AMDtech Your big plug will be the XPS 15 review. Hopefully on past history we get those in Australia first. Like my Mac ship date has blown out to Dec 19. Wtf? And there is like 1000 videos already. :(
Good review! I would say alienware is quite underrated in the Internet world.. Just look at other RUclipsrs Like Linus, Jayz, Paul, bitwit. They never do an alienware review ever... Even if alienware just made a laptop that probably is better than anything else on the market right now. But what they do? They make review of every other laptop except alienware lol I wonder why.. Anyways that's why I like your videos a lot!
+Rock GamingTV I'm not sure why that is. If those guys were sent one I'm sure they would review it. Have they said bad things about ALIENWARE in the past? I don't know? In any case. This ALIENWARE 15 is killer, there is no denying that.
I don't think they have said anything against alienware in videos.. Not sure about Twitter or forums. But I think they are scared that comments will have a lot of hate to alienware... People who don't know anything about new prices of Alienwares will say Alienware are garbage, you are paying for that brand name bla bla bla.. Alienwares are actually worth it for the price now... They offer a lot for the price
Western Gents United Linus is a huge Razer fan and seems to be very forgiving of thier faults. LTT did a Razer vs Alienware and stated as a day to day machine, he prefers the Razer for looks and comfort, even tho the Alienware out performs and equally priced. Bias maybe ?
I've been living with the 13"-R3 for the past couple of weeks and I'm very pleased. Not only with gaming but day to day use for work as well. Looks great in a professional setting but while I'm waiting for the meeting to start - how about a little DOOM :) REPLY
It already exists, some clevo laptops have g-sync and optimus, you just need to connect both graphics card separately and give the user the option on the bios when starting the laptop to chosse what card to use
Nice review! I'm going for the new 13 myself, however, struggling to decide on whether to go with the QHD Panel, or the FHD 1080p panel. Would QHD really be noticeable at 13"?
Noticeable? On 13 inch Not really... But it will look a bit better overall. If price difference is not much then you can get QHD otherwise just go for fhd
Yea. Down the line, i might consider going for a decent UHD monitor, along with the Alienware Graphics AMP, and maybe a 1080. Thats long down the road though.
I don't know much about Alienware configs but I do know they offer a TN 120hz panel with G-Sync. Something to consider, you cannot have both G-Sync and nVidia Optimus at the same time. Optimus will be very useful for battery life if you plan to game while unplugged. It'll almost double the battery time. Consider which is more important to you, 120hz or Optimus.
Thanks! I look forward to it! I'm coming from a Mac and need to find a decent (if not bleeding-edge) gaming rig with a trackpad that won't be too much of a step-down from the MacBook Pros. I know, I know... I should use a mouse for FPSs, but I do like strategy games, too. And I want a trackpad that will work well with them.
i always liked the alienware logo and architecture however recently in the few years their laptops were made huge mistakes in them leading to extreme overheat and throttling, i had the AW R2 17 and it started to throttle within 7 months of use. Later i found htat much more people reported these problems too, and they were getting very little support from the warranty and either exchanged or retrurned the laptop. I just hope the new R4 is ok and was corrected.
balwinder singh ya I checked that out. that model with the 1070 costed 1700-1800$ during black friday. Now it shows 120hz+g sync+1060 for around the same price. I dont understand. Check that out.
balwinder singh Now they are selling 1060 for 1749$ where as they sold 1070 for 1700$ during black friday. During black friday, there was no model where alienware was offering 120hz+g sync+1060, it was only on the 1070. I would have preferred 1060 for less price. But now with the same cost, i would obviously want the 1070 instead of 1060.
hey mate, i got some problems with framedrops... do you get these? or is it because of the hdd? really anoying since it affects my watch dogs 2 sessions 😢
sir please upload your temperatures on full load . because i thing most of the alienware laptop has 3 heat piple lines in heat sink. in you video see 9:29. where is 2 only pipelines and can i great my model with 6700hq at 6300hq and 1070 at 1060 . thank you .
hi thank for your review its great i was looking for such review where alienware 15 r3 should have i7 6700hq and 1070 graphics . this thing which i want to say it that this particular model has 2 heat pipe lines in it and i have model i5 6300hq and 1060 and it has 2 pipe line in heat sink . but when you compare it with some opened alieware models in youtube most of tham have 3 heat pipes lines in it. sir can you tell me you full load temperatures .
goods stuff (albeit there were a few dark shots that were too dark to me). but it seems to me that pairing a 120hz panel with the 1060 is cruel. for any decent 100+ hz, I think the 1070 is a most even if not the 1080. so kudos to Dell, but unless for video editing of footage at 120fps, the panel is kind of an overkill.
+Daniel Rodriguez-Delgado Spot on there. The ALIENWARE 15 with the 1070 makes the most sense with a 120Htz monitor. That being said I just played GTA 5 and Battlefield 1 with a mixture of high and very high and I was getting 90 to 100 plus fps and hitting the 120 cap quite a bit in GTA 5.
I have watched this company build unbelievable machines since their inception and backed off once Dell bought them. I knew they would benefit from manufacturing advantages but thought they would change more for the worse. There has been a good balance so I decided to finally buy one. Alienware 15 R3 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/Turbo Boost) Windows 10 Home-HE (64bit) NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display 16GB DDR4 at 2667MHz (2x8GB) 256GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1 Since I am not wanting to spend $2k+ on an extreme system with massive depreciation, I decided to buy a simple version with a little extra in RAM and Storage. I figure I can upgrade RAM and swap out the drives in a year to provide the extra boot I need as it starts to slow due to drive wear and inevitable higher game specs. In 2 years I will buy the AW Graphics Amplifier so I can keep up with games with a decent frame rate/resolution tradeoff. My last laptop purchase was in 2006 and is currently running Plex to serve up my media. It does ok at it as I swapped the drive for SSD a few years ago. I buy for longevity and this will make be my friend until I move to a full console / VR platform.
Western Gents United 🙆🏾♂️😓 Ok thanks man,, but have you seen the MSI? 😓 it’s effn beautiful..! I’ll wait for Black Friday.. it’s not too far off, and get an Alien with 1060 and i7700HQ
Nice video, but you used too many cuts, I'm almost getting epilepsy :p For example, you pick up the laptop at 4:42 and cut in the middle of picking it up, then you rotate it at 4:47 and cut again, then at 4:56 again,...
I just got this laptop 3 days ago. Gtx 1070 graphics card 16gb ram (fuxking best of a lappy) The second night I had it I was playing dota 2 with my brother. I had my graphics set on the highest and the ac adapter (charger) stopped supplying energy to my laptop. And during game my laptop dimmed the brightness and went into power saver mode and starts running on battery (lappy doesn't seem to realize that the ac adapter is plugged in. IM NOT GETTING A MSG SAYING (plugged in, not charging). My lappy just goes into battery mode. And I look at the AC adapter still plugged in lappy. And the blue LED light is off. I unplug it from the lappy and the wall. The AC adapter seems to be working fine. I plug it into lappy. And it does the same thing within seconds while im still in the game!!! BUT when I use lappy for anytbing normal like youtube. Browsing the web. Listening to music. (Anything that doesn't involve using too much power) it's works fine. Charges all the way up to 100% no issues at al
If I were you Id go for dell i7559 if you need a gaming laptop on the move. But if you need a gaming laptop to place anywhere in your house Id go for alienware. Why I tell you this because I have both of these laptops! :D
got my aw 15 r3 with 1070 gtx and g sync ...is it awesome but there is a problem....THE FANS ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE ON....and when gaming they are even louder....is anyone here experiencing the same problem>>>?
Yeh pricing is now crap in UK like in Australia, but then again we don't have to worry about things the size of a ant biting us and potentially killing us. =)
Thermal issues are bad on mine... Hoped I wouldnt have any problems with the thermals but I do and my cpu reaches 100c when gaming :/ If you want to take the chance then just do it, but i would buy the 13 inch or 17 inch instead... or buy something else but i wouldnt buy this I regret it sooo much
I don't think laptops with desktop GPUs will be the end of desktop gaming...(shrink the market, possibly)...there are too many people who enjoy building their own PCs...
@@TallyHoTech ok so I went through the whole post again and you actually can disable G-Sync but I don't think that you can improve the battery life for any G-Sync enabled laptop...
Bwahaha. You poor sods. Almost every single Alienware 15r3 and 17r4 computers have thermal problems. The 'normal' operating temperature for these computers is 95-100c due to an inherent design fault with the heatsink (3 screw triangle design). You definitely need to check reddit and thenotebookreview. Apparently, Dell are looking into a recall shortly. Good luck with the life of your laptop....
Western Gents United yeah so did the rest of these people including me. Battlefield 1 raises temps to 100c and the new bios doesn't shutdown the system so it just keeps on burning.
Dude, that's shit. You're CPU (I presume it's your CPU?) is going to fry. If you purchased it via Dell, then i would recommend that you return it as most other users have.
I haven't seen you this starie-eyed since you fell for the Dell XPS 15. As a current XPS 15 owner, you may make it a little angry with all the goggling you doing over this Alienware. Just saying...
The "daddy of the gaming laptops" LOL. Alienware hasn't been daddy of anything for years. Those thermals or total crap! I have the MSI whitebook MS16L13 sold by Eurocom as the "Tornado F5" and it literally smashes this laptop to pieces for a lot cheaper. It has a Z170 motherboard, desktop 6700K CPU, GTX 1070, 1080p G-Sync display, 16gb 2400mhz, etc. I top out around 67C GPU and 70C CPU when my CPU is running at 4.0ghz on all 4 cores in BF1. That 6700HQ you have is a total BGA turd. I got out the door at less than $1600. I will be able to upgrade to the 7700k with a small BIOS update in the future, and the GPU is MXM so it will be upgradeable to an 11 series or AMD equiv GPU. Alienware has been shit for years. Enjoy that BGA piece of crap.
Guys be careful. The new AW15 and 17's suffer from hot running CPU's! 90C-100C is supposedly normal. Compared to 80C max on other models. Alienware has to fix these issues. I'm personally awaiting my 3rd AW15! Each one had problems!

I have one on the way. I am dreading what I am going to get now :/
Peter G On Twitter, Alienware has already apologized for those crazy temps and backlight bleed and have promised to fix it.
Peter G do you mind giving me a update after you get your replacement? planning on getting this lap top but would like to know when they fix the problem

It's not all software. It's mostly hardware. The mounting system for the cooler only uses 3 screws which causes uneven pressure on the CPU and therefore very high temps and core differences of 30 degrees C and more in some cases.
No they haven't. This is a hardware issue. The heat sink isn't seated evenly causing overheating and core differentials. Flashing BIOS doesn't fix the problems just lowers the temperatures sometimes.

Nvidia and Intel should find a way to make g-sync work with optimus. Doesn't sound too difficult. Maybe by kaby lake early 2017.
Agree there XD
Does optimus technology automatically turn on to save battery or do it have to be done manually???

Hi, how are you? Do you know when the 13 inch R3 model will be released in Australia? Thanks!
Hopefully soon. I have nothing concrete
This one luckily doesnt have GPU throttling. Many users have reported issues for GPU temps upto 100°C.

goods stuff (albeit there were a few dark shots that were too dark to me). but it seems to me that pairing a 120hz panel with the 1060 is cruel. for any decent 100+ hz, I think the 1070 is a most even if not the 1080.
so kudos to Dell, but unless for video editing of footage at 120fps, the panel is kind of an overkill.
Daniel Rodriguez-Delgado love over kill!

Western Gents United i ordered the version with the gtx 1060 and the 1080p screen
Pretty basic
I have watched this company build unbelievable machines since their inception and backed off once Dell bought them. I knew they would benefit from manufacturing advantages but thought they would change more for the worse. There has been a good balance so I decided to finally buy one.
Alienware 15 R3
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ (Quad-Core, 6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/Turbo Boost)
Windows 10 Home-HE (64bit)
NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5
15.6 inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare 300-nits Display
16GB DDR4 at 2667MHz (2x8GB) 256GB PCIe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s
Killer 1435 802.11ac 2x2 WiFi and Bluetooth 4.1
Since I am not wanting to spend $2k+ on an extreme system with massive depreciation, I decided to buy a simple version with a little extra in RAM and Storage.
Should i get this or the MSI Ge63VR 7rfe 1060(6gb) i7700HQ?
I'm only being indecisive cause of the build quality and weight.
+Festus Kathindi Alienware champ ;)
Western Gents United 🙆🏾♂️😓 Ok thanks man,, but have you seen the MSI? 😓 it’s effn beautiful..!
I’ll wait for Black Friday.. it’s not too far off, and get an Alien with 1060 and i7700HQ
the moment you said the keyboard was heaven for your fingers i hit the subscribe button. hilarious commentary xD
Cheers mate and thanks for your kind words
should I get 4k version or 1080 is fine. I already have MacBook pro retina ...would 1080p look like downgrading?
+Abhimanyu Aryan If you have retina go with the 4k
how 1080p game looks in 4k display. I heard roumer that 1080p game looks worse in 4k display
Nice video, but you used too many cuts, I'm almost getting epilepsy :p
For example, you pick up the laptop at 4:42 and cut in the middle of picking it up, then you rotate it at 4:47 and cut again, then at 4:56 again,...
+Idris Kahil Thanks for the feed back mate some of the cuts are to hide my stuff up jump cuts. A bit of inside the dressing room
And im using Windows 10
Alienware have great support, call them or contact them. They will sort it. Could be a million things. I need to look at it
How do you make the LLights go brighter without charger???
+TypicalSam all the settings are in alien fx
will it last for couple of years under heavy load?
+The Strider9 No problems. They are build for that.
Western Gents United okay, thanks! 👍
Probably like 2-3
If I were you Id go for dell i7559 if you need a gaming laptop on the move. But if you need a gaming laptop to place anywhere in your house Id go for alienware. Why I tell you this because I have both of these laptops! :D
Hey mate, is the 120hz panel a TN panel or IPS?
+Ahmerd Ash TN I don't know any non TN laptop panels that do 120Hz
Here's one www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-XB271HU-2560x1440-Display/dp/B0173PEX20/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1491141558&sr=8-6&keywords=144hz+ips
he said laptop lol not monitors XD
got my aw 15 r3 with 1070 gtx and g sync ...is it awesome but there is a problem....THE FANS ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE ON....and when gaming they are even louder....is anyone here experiencing the same problem>>>?
You have the latest Bios firmware?
it just came 3 days ago from dell so i expected to have the latest one...i check and it is 1.0.9 bios version (released on 4 th of january)
No way this will shrink the desktop market. Laptops are still a lot more expensive
You have a point there.
Yeh pricing is now crap in UK like in Australia, but then again we don't have to worry about things the size of a ant biting us and potentially killing us. =)
Yes with all the deadly snakes and crocodiles around. I'm surprised anyone goes outdoors :)
I love my razer 1060 bro. It's the beaste knees.
I like Razer too x)
I'm not sure if I should get this or the xps 15
+tothebeast75 Depends if you need battery life and portability v gaming power. The XPS 15 games good enough for me but for you?
does it have a mic?
Mr. Elecentric is it to bad to play multiplayer games with it?
Mate you just sold me a 3 grand laptop!
+Victor Li Yea boy. Please share your experience when you get it.
it's not going to shrink the desktop market mate
+Zimba's Doom Corner I hope not champ. I will cry.
Has anyone gotten the signature edition of the Alienware 15 R3? I feel like I would have a better chance of getting a good cookie buying it from them
I've heard Alienware 15 r3 has thermal issues? should I buy or can anyone recommend one for photo editing?
Thermals I had no problems and its nearly 100% sRGB so its good for photo editing. You might want to calibrate if if you are going to print.
Western Gents United kay
Thermal issues are bad on mine... Hoped I wouldnt have any problems with the thermals but I do and my cpu reaches 100c when gaming :/ If you want to take the chance then just do it, but i would buy the 13 inch or 17 inch instead... or buy something else but i wouldnt buy this I regret it sooo much
Hey, I was just wondering how to download AlienFX on that laptop, does anyone know how?
Husam Dweik dells site has the drivers
Thats right, get them from Dell
I don't think laptops with desktop GPUs will be the end of desktop gaming...(shrink the market, possibly)...there are too many people who enjoy building their own PCs...
Yes me included. Lets hope is doesn't XD.
You can disable G-Sync and get a few more hours out of this beast!
Nope
@@TallyHoTech there's a whole reddit post on that
I don't own this laptop yet but I'm planning to get it by selling my PC
I just saw a reddit post on this topic and decided to comment here lol
I update to the latest Bios and gamed for hours and it never got into the 90C's
Western Gents United yeah so did the rest of these people including me. Battlefield 1 raises temps to 100c and the new bios doesn't shutdown the system so it just keeps on burning.
Daniel Kwon mine reaches 100c after the newest bios update... not sure if that is good or not
Dude, that's shit. You're CPU (I presume it's your CPU?) is going to fry. If you purchased it via Dell, then i would recommend that you return it as most other users have.
fuck... dont really got the time to wait for a new computer because of school... shit...
120hz? it is TN panel?
Yes the 120 Hz are TN they have a new better one now
I would also like to ad that im using Windows 10
I haven't seen you this starie-eyed since you fell for the Dell XPS 15. As a current XPS 15 owner, you may make it a little angry with all the goggling you doing over this Alienware. Just saying...
HaHa I will still take the XPS 15. :) I have my 1 year video soon
Alienware is the big daddy? What about Razer?
I like what Razer are doing but they are a boutique company not the Daddy
u sound like an MPC from the witcher 3 lol
haha, you know it xD
is this a tn panel
+Ibad Rizvi No, not this one
then how is it 120hz g sync . i havent seen a panel like that on this alien ware laptop
"10'000 Series Nvidia GPU" kek
+TheBitFox @:-)
The garbage razor blade 14 without g sync gets 3 hours... this machine is way nice and better designed
I have to agree there. I would not say the Raxzer is garbage though
Wtf is an Aalyanwaire ?
+MrSinister 96 I'm not sure but it's made out of illumannum and it's has lots of dater on it
#friday
Bro Quick question, What is that Laptop stand? its sexy asf
Its from Ikea. forgot its name
"Haich Kyew"
+drpdrp Hehe. Alienware for life lol
Western Gents United Haha Same! Getting this very laptop.
Got mine for $660AU off (boxind gay sales)
+Antphoneigh Well don't there champ :)
I can't even understand you
Don’t worry you will get there in the end. I know some people find things hard.
Western Gents United Thanks
fallout
+boxylizard 1 It will blitz that xD
I have updated the Bios and I get 71C now stable. These models are a step up from their last models, trust me on that
