Subariblet! You are awesome friend! I have the same motor and by no means anything close mechanically inclined. Just followed your videos and did the oil change, changed the spark plugs, and fuel filter. I’m going to start this soon. Thank you thank you for your videos. You make it look so easy that I could do it
Hi question what prop do you run on your mercury. I run a 9.75 x 9.5 P. I do a lot of lobster fishing so I like the acceleration but only hit top speed of 24 mph, I wot between 5700-5900 rpm and
Certified outboard tech here, pls remember to be careful when removing the linkage pin. This is what connects your power head shifter to the lower unit shift shaft. Smacking it repeatedly with enough force can throw your shifter out of line or even bend your shift shaft. Also note the discoloration on the drive shaft, this is indicating that the drive shaft has gotten hot sometime during operation. A bad impeller can cause this but with the condition the one in the video was in its highly unlikely. Chest all passageways for scale build up or chunks of crud.
Thanks a bunch. I'm gonna do this on a 25hp mercury 4 stroke. I've never touched a outboard motor in my life but this give me the confidence i can pull it off 😄
Thanks for the video! I just replaced the impeller only, using your directions. Took about 15 minutes and was less than $30. No more warning light or buzzer!
Great video Followed it to a t . Remember to wrap a towel around the rod while re installing pin . Or it may fall in the hole . Ask me how I know. 🤔 so mine still isn't pissing 😒. I replaced thermostat as well. Ugh. Thanks for any suggestions
I never even thought about losing the pin down the hole. I'm lucky I was able to find it. Sounds like you got a clog in your system. I've heard bugs and sometimes weeds can get in there and clog the flow. I think I've seen videos before on how to flush it out
I used Super Tech Marine Grease on the top gear. You can get it at Walmart. It’s cheap and highly rated. You can buy a more expensive brand if you want but this stuff works great.
I see you have a four blade prop. What size and pitch is it? Also what boat are you running? As I have a Lowe roughneck 1652 VT w/ a Mercury 30hp 4 stroke. I run a 11p three blade, but I am looking to try a four blade.
I have a Lowe Skorpion 16. I just put the new prop on this year, upgrading from the stock 3 blade prop. The prop I bought is Mercury Spitfire 4-Blade Aluminum Propeller Prop 9.3 x 11P 25-30HP 48-8M8026655. I bought it from Amazon for about $150. Quicksilver makes a Nemesis prop that is the same for about 10 bucks cheaper, but I went with this one. So this is what I learned. Hole shot is greatly improved now with this new prop and brings me to plane much quicker. With the old 3 blade prop, I could go about 30mph. With the new 4 blade prop, I can still go 30mph. The new prop was well worth the buy in my opinion as I have noticed a significant better performance.

Thank you. I have an issue with mine and now feel I can replace it. Appreciate this video!

My guess is the 25hp is the same exact process. You’ll be able to knock this out quickly.
Have to replace my water pump. I have the same motor. Awesome video looks pretty simple. Thank you for sharing friend!

Perfect!

Great video, hard to find a proper manual online
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your great video
Brilliant video, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Sure appreciate your video my exact motor- looks really easy helped a lot thanks 👍
Nice work, no gasket goes between the lower unit when reinstalling? Just curious.
No
Thanks for this video, just curious was that just lower end gear oil you lubed on the top gear there?

Does it matter what gear selection your on, do you leave in neutral position?
I left mine in the neutral position. I’m not sure if it makes a difference or not.
Never said a thing about shift linkage
Do you need to drain the lower unit oil to do this?
No
What size of pin punch did you use?
I think it’s a 3/32
It was the 3/32. Sorry for the late reply
I have a 2008 40hp 4-stroke. Is it the same process?
I'm not sure. You could take off the lower unit to see the impeller housing. My guess is it will be similar.
