      That switch only works when the door is open. When you close the door, there is a hidden switch which turns it back on again. :3

    For 5 years I working as an electrical technician & eventually an engineer, I never found refrigerator lights as a problem, in fact i never heard or see anyone change the light bulb (as the cool air preserve the bulb). If you not sure if the pressure switch work right, u can test it yourself. Adding window to the fridge can disturb the cooling efficiency for your fridge as heat can enter through radiation. Besides, adding window will increase the cost.

    I remember an old Looney Tune cartoon where it showed 'Products from the Future' and a refrigerator with a look-in window was one of the products. When you close the door you can open the window and you see a small gremlin come out of a compartment and turn off the light. Oh Stan, everything you say is so great and nostalgic, I wonder if you yourself had seen this cartoon short.

    Usually they have a sensor or a button which you can press on the part of the door or fridge closest to the hinge. It gets pushed in when the door closes which turns off the light, and you can push it in yourself if you really want to find out if it goes off. Excelsior!

    I've performed several experiments from pressing the bloody switch to actually cutting the front of the fridge open (on an old fridge we weren't going to use anymore) and can say with certainty that it goes out. I however would advice against windows. Fridge doors are insulated, So have a much lower thermal bleed than glass(even double pane glass) your electric bill would go up more from having a window than from disabling the off button on the bulb.

    it does not bother me because if you look in your refrigerator and find a little piece of plastic sticking out around where the door meets the fridge you can press it in and the light will go off. also most fridges i see i can usually see the light go off before the door is fully closed.

    (adjusting my nerd glasses) A fridge has a little pressure switch that turns the light on when the door is open and turns the light off when pressed by shutting the door. Check it out right now, press that switch several times, make the light blink, and let your eggs and milk feel like they're in a dance club.

  • @Mari605i
    @Mari605i 11 лет назад

    Well, you can actually buy refrigerators with a glass door, so it's see-through instead of being massive. Also (this works for me at least!) try almost closing the refrigerator door, leaving a gap of less than an inch and take a peek.. the lights are usually off at that point ;)

  • @Reficuls
    @Reficuls 11 лет назад

    As someone who has been stuffed inside a refrigerator, I can confirm that the light does in fact turn off.

  • @TheDrB0B
    @TheDrB0B 11 лет назад

    Its very hard to avoid the heat from coming through the aluminium sheet covering the refrigerators. Cutting it to install a plastic/glass window would make it so it loses heat and uses more energy to keep it cold.
    But then again, it would avoid heat loss from people going to open them just to look.
    I don't know...
    I'm pretty comfortable with the refrigerator I have.

    Actually, there is a bunch of models out there, refrigerators with transparent doors, some with windows, some are completely made out of glass. Here's the problem: Most of them aren't very energy efficient. Nor do they have a light inside.

  •  11 лет назад

    AMEN

  • @KazokuMugiwara
    @KazokuMugiwara 10 лет назад +4

    1.) Glass isn't a very good insulator, that is why they don't have windows. It would let all the cool air out allowing bacteria to grow and spoil the food.
    2.) When you press that button that is by the door, you can see that the light turns on and off when you press it. If you are very concerned about it. Get a piece of tape and tape down that little button when you close the door. Then you will know for certain that it is out.

      @martijnvanweele6204 10 лет назад

      2: how do you know for shure that the pushing of the button also causes the light to go off when the fridge is closed? Since quantumphysics state that observation can influence the outcome of an experiment, you can't prove that the light actually goes off when you close the door.

    • @KazokuMugiwara
      @KazokuMugiwara 10 лет назад +1

      martijn van weele Yes, yes. If a tree falls in the woods and all that. We aren't talking about theory of quantumphysics. We are talking about a real would situation.

      you can hold it for an hour and the light will still be off, its just how it works, the video is just suppose to be one of Stan's jokes.

    • @martijnvanweele6204
      @martijnvanweele6204 10 лет назад

      TheWireLordz You can't know that for sure. Even if you test it over a hundred times with the same result, you can't be sure it will happen again next time. That is just an assumption you make based upon your observation, but your observation can only tell you what has happened, and indeed, the more times something has happened the same way, the more likely it is that next time it happens, it will again happen the same way, but you can never be certain of it.

  • @david419224
    @david419224 11 лет назад

    Yeah I suppose that could just be a ploy. Like there's a sensor built into the frame of the door that detects wither it's a human finger or a cold rectangle of plastic pressing on the lever the former turning off the light and latter leaving it on. That's ingenious. Well played general electric.

  • @kkonstantinosss2
    @kkonstantinosss2 11 лет назад

    I have a solution. You can put a cellphone with the camera on record in the refrigerator and retrieve the footage. I bet the manufacturers of the fridges would never do that since it would make the refrigerators terribly inefficient which would raise their wattage which would in turn make them less likely to sell due to them being under spec.
