Incredible work of art you've built! However, I must advise all the excited people I see in the comments that this is not only an expensive build but an expensive maintenance nightmare as well. I have many years as a painting contractor and custom home designer/builder behind my opinion on this. Some people however, take great pride in the continual upkeep that goes into a gem like this and that's a beautiful thing. I love exotic woods and this is an absolutely stunning home!
So what is low maintenance? Oil the wood as a treatment and leave it? How did the ancients do it? I've seen red laquer as an outside finish. How long does it last in the weather? Centuries or decades?
Nice traditional house, built high so always a breeze of some sort is blowing thru open doors and windows. Teak is a hard wood resistant to moisture (why many boats use teak decks and trim). The enemy of the wood are termites, the support pillars can be periodically treated near ground level very inexpensive to effectivly control them. This house will be standing strong a very long time. Good work!! I live issan region most all concrete construction will eventually develop settlement cracks due to constant ground shifting. This construction of wood has natural flexibility in the structure. Thanks to post 😊
Thanks cuz. I rarely go this site to see comments, but thanks. We are back in Harlem now after waiting out the virus in isolation on the farm. It was fantastic with no distancing worries. After several months waiting we were able to get A Flight Out and back to USA. But now we want to get back there to the house and farm but can’t get back into Thailand. Just gonna have to wait the virus out, I guess.
Beautiful home. We just finished ( almost ) building thai style farmhouse in Samoeng, Thailand, using all repurposed wood. I’m 100 % over budget. Lol Doesnt really matter does it. Keep up your great work .
Very beautiful house indeed. I admire that you went for a teak house in a time it would be so much easier with concrete. Higher maintenance but what a beauty she is. Well done
I am amazed at how beautiful this house is . It is my dream to have something similar built in the north east of Thailand where I aim to live in the future . Would anybody know where the exact location of this house is and more importantly if the builders are local to that area and if they are still building these beautiful houses ?
You buy the kit home and they deliver it to wherever you wish and then erect it for you. As far as I know you just need to have the concrete foundation.
You see many house like this around Isaan, some home build like this and some you can order from a book or as you travel araound you'll see roadside site's with houses stating at 800,000 to 10mil baht. You can order they will came and erect it for you on you land. This one would be in the 10mil bracket.
@raywicknyc: thx for the amazing video.....I always wanted to build a house like that, when we were searching for the right project for our house in Sisaket, my wife was favoring the "modern style", after showing her your video, she was convinced........I had contacted a company in Phrae, where our big son lives, they do similar projects......I'll contact your builder as well for having two offers. Do you know Thailannahome?
crackerjacksailing: www.bannsongthai.com/ My house construction is the featured house #2 Located across street (Chaeng Watthana Road) from the large Government Complex and Immigration Buildings in BKK. Worth a visit. Since I built in 2012, the company has grown and have onsite model homes including a variation of the one I built. Good luck!

Our Thai houses are very similar and same company that built mine. Go to: Baan Kokkaduad, 94 Moo. 9, Surin, Thailand, 097 3431167 (+358 500 511647) Danish friend's name is Timo. Hi, my Thai wife and I are in a dispute about the cost of building a house like this. What will it cost me to build a house like this in Isan? I like the video very much by the way. Greetz from the Netherlands.
2 mil. Baht for wood structure, not incl. land, plumbing, or concrete. Like a boat, it will be higher maintenance than concrete. After 3 yrs, very happy with it.
raywicknyc Hi, very nice house and well designed - I build now in North Issan in our little ban ahi but can't find good worker. Where are your place? seems it has better worker in your no man's land. I only want to find decoration as on your roof at top but can't find any shop for this, even at Loei and surrounding. Is it a commercial off-the-shelf product or it's your worker carving this? I really enjoy seeing your video, thanks.
minh bach Ho I am in Buriram area. No traditional workers are here either. I found my workers in Bangkok, but they were from Ayutthaya and Chaing Mai and had long experience building only traditional houses. There are several traditional Thai house builders advertised on Web. The decorations around and on top of the roof are off-the-shelf. In Buriram, I have seen the same carvings at Thai Watsadu, but also at roadside furniture or spirit house shops. Good luck.
@@Nurse.Rackpull likely 2 Million is just the cost of wood pieces. Labor is extra. As are various building materials. My guess is somewhere between 5 and 10 Million Baht for what you see in this video. Cheers
@@raywicknyc that is amazing to be honest. Very beautiful house and you documented the whole process very well. Since this video is now already made 6 years ago. Would you consider doing a future video on how it is now, 6 years later and share your experiences living there?
@@raywicknyc Hi I love this house and I want to know how much this beautiful house will cost to day finish ready to move inn same in the film!! I will be verry happy for answear and more info, I stay now inn Phetchabun
PBJ Silver Studio Wood was treated for termite protection. Also, have many natural bug predators like geckos and frogs and bats to keep the bug population in check. No termites problem after 7 years.
wrong place build house have near rice field or river, flooding season have full at water and destroy all you stuff and live. if build need filling land up about 8 meter, my house have filling 6 meter up rice field and water go in house 2 meter flood season. before has know flood lot and has filling 3 meter more ground. but all not can know.

being on piers, the footprint of the house is also the driveway and work area. Thats efficient, no need to lay more concrete.

What is the price usually to build such a houe?

Cool beans.
Hmm, where's kichen?
Why are Thai homes always on stilts?
It's beautiful but I don't think they had glass windows until the arrival of Europeans...I would call this a modified traditional Thai house.
