ZZ Top- I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide (lyrics)

- Well I was rollin' down the road in some cold blue steel,
I had a bluesman in the back, and a beautician at the wheel.
We're going downtown in the middle of the night
We was laughing and I'm jokin' and we feelin' alright.
Oh I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Yes I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Easin' down the highway in a new Cadillac,
I had a fine fox in front, I had three more in the back.
They sportin' short dresses, wearin' spike-heeled shoes,
They smokin' Lucky Strikes, wearing nylon too.
Welcome back, we're nationwide.
Yeah we bad, we're nationwide.
Well I was movin' down the road in my V-8 Ford,
I had a shine on my boots, I had my sideburns lowered.
With my New York brim and my gold tooth displayed,
Nobody give me trouble cause they know I got it made.
I'm bad, I'm nationwide.
Girl I'm bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, I'm nationwide.
Rest easy Dusty. Your badass trio lives forever.
🍻
R.I.P. Dusty Hill. You will remain, forever, Bad and Nationwide.

The Bad!!!!! ZZ Top!!!! RIP D. H. Seen them in Concert!! Early 70's. They Rocked!!!!!!! Weed being passed around!!!!! Yeah!!!!! Awesome Era!!!! Im 70 still Rock n Roll!!!!!!!
Me too. 71 here. Rock & roll forever!! 🎸 🥁 🎶
@@joaniegoddard1653 That's Right!!!! Forever!!! Rock n Roll!!!!!!
I remember back in the day when I went to these shows with a zzz. Me and my friends would roll it up and start passing them around. Believe it or not. We did this at the denver coliseum back in the early to mid seventies. I sure wish I could back. For those who don’t believe me I wish if you are old enough to go back in time. On second thought these kids need to learn how to live life to its fullest. Burning hating that’s not fun. You would know if only you young folks had been there.
60 here!!! Long live Rock and Roll!!!!
@@frankwall5177 absolute truth Frank. It was a different world.
That "little ole band from Texas" 1 of the greatest 3 man bands ever.
I'm 69, been grovin with zz from the beginning 😂😂
RIP dusty hill. Never got to see you, but I’ll see you on the other side.
I'm so happy that I got to see them in Dallas in 2019. Amazing concert. They were there with Bad Company and Cheap Trick
We all will.
@@randomentertainment8927
Saw cheap trick open for Kiss in the 70's. Saw ZZ Top in the early 80's.
I also saw the Blues Brothers in 1981.

Blues brothers opened for Steve Martin. Great show.
I was 13 when I rummaged through my dads record collection in 1995 and found the deguello album. This song had me hooked from the first split second the needle hit the track. The whole album kicks ass, but this track is my favorite.
My wife and I were just jamming to this. She told me she likes Sharp Dressed Man, and I had to play my favorite too. This one by far. The blues really comes out in this one.

Believe it or not, ZZ Top is still underrated. They could fuckin play everything. Insane talent.
Let em try to play some acdc. Old school acdc. They'd choke...
@@natebalcerak1659 yeah they'd have a hard time playing all 4 chords acdc uses.
It's not the chords yah play, chump. It's how yah play em.😜
Let me tell something else, dipstick. I have respected ZZ TOP for longer than you've been ALIVE. They have their own style, and I fuckin LOVE it. Ain't none of your business, just clarifyi'n things a bit for you. Get it yet, or do you need more convincing?
@@natebalcerak1659 what i need is more tacos, and more of your pg insults my man. acdc is simple. Simple isn't bad, obviously. It took em around the world. But zz top is more musically versatile.
tightest blues trio that consistently put out good shit ...
ZZ Top the greatest. Billy and Frank keep playing and keep Dusty's memory alive.
@@toddmurphy6607 I saw them two summers ago in Oregon without Dusty.. It was weird at first. By the second song, it was just ZZ Top doing their thing. Billy and Frank are such pros. I think they could do it in their sleep.
Just say you're from the Georgia over here. I'll vouch for you, friend.
Doesn't really matter where they're from they rock properly!!
Just saw them last night here in Tyler, TX. AMAAAAAAZING!! At the end, the played Dusty singing “Tush”, not a dry eye in the house! BEST CONCERT EVER!
Sounds like an amazing and emotional show…

Same 😉👊
Love Billy's guitar work, and Dusty's bass, Frank brings it all together. Can't beat ZZ Top .
Individually they would have been the it in any band but we got lucky to have all three together to mesh their individual talents and make something that will last the test of time. Be Beethoven Bach Prince boom ZZ top baby!!!!!!!

A fun one.
This might be my favorite ZZTop song ever. Cheap Sunglasses is right there, too. This song is so strong with the groove and the greasy soloing. Lyrics are strong....so badass.
You damn right 😁
Mine too. Easily their best.
It reminds me of Hot Tuna.
OMG love that use of the word greasy to describe the solos.

What a rock solid band. Three guys who can fill a hall with sound. Some of Billy's licks arent technically complicated but it is near impossible to play them the way he does. Masterful work.

ZZ made three people sound like seven... and damn, Dusty, there's a hundred smiles and a few tears with your name on them.
ZZ Top reminds me of growing up and cruising with Dad. Windows down hauling ass.. thanks for all the great music boys..
Smoked my first joint to ZZ Top. i remember Texas in the 80's and every juke box had ZZ Top in it.
Just gotta get my two cents in. This band was great in many ways and you either get "it" or never will. They were consummate musicians, could write songs and sing...yeah all of that. But it was their ability to deliver it in such a powerful and unique way. I've often thought that to really appreciate their music, you had to grow up in the Southwest because in a way, ZZ Top is epitome of RRnR...Redneck Rock 'n Roll. There is an attitude, a swagger that comes thru in their music. But underneath it all, it was their ability to use classic delta blues licks and transform it into their brand of music. I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide is prime example. Unbelievably powerful music.
The coolest band in rock history
Flags should be half staff today. We lost a great legend, Dusty. Zz top are american treasures.
R.I.P. Dusty 🎸♥️

Bought this in 1979 when I was 18. I had a Pontiac Firebird and played the hell out of Deguello until the cassette broke. I still laugh at "beautician at the wheel".
Goodtimes zztop is the cool shit always ,they play this music on Mars someday lol
Im still rocking this since 1980
Bought it in 1980, still have 8 track. LOL!
At least you got it first time! Until I saw it in print, I would have sworn he sang "mutation at the wheel," which puts another spin on it entirely. I stand corrected.

Songfacts®:
This song was inspired by Texas blues musician named Joey Long, who was good friends with the band. As Billy Gibbons tells it, Long didn't have a driver's license, but he always had new Cadillac that his beautiful wife Barbarella used to drive him to gigs.
The song is confabulated so Long is enjoying the company of a few lovely ladies during this ride, all wearing nylons, spike-heeled shoes and smoking Lucky Strikes - he was living large!
Long, who died in 1995, wasn't as rich or famous as he's made out to be in the song, but he was one of the most acclaimed blues guitarists in Texas and a mentor to Gibbons, who cites Long's playing on the Barbara Lynn track "We Got A Good Thing Going" as a formative influence..... hope that clears it up for ya man 😉👍
