You say that, but who's to say the idea of being on a team with the possibility to do something never done before isn't something players are looking at? JJ isn't going to a team who can etch theirs and his name into history books unless he goes to Kansas City. Facts no team next year other than Kansas City is capable of a 3pete. It's far more delusional to think players aren't attrto that possibility.

We just went through this last year with D-hop and it didn't happen, I'm keeping my expectations low for Evans and Jefferson.
I'd bet anything the Jones contract hold out is what tied Veach's hands with Hopkins. Hopkins even made that one comment saying something like "talk to your management" when someone asked him why he wasn't with the Chiefs.
Justin Jefferson = No friggin' way. I do not even know why we are talking about this. If we are saying Mike Evans is too expensive then Justin is a hell no.
The top candidates should be:

- Marquise Brown
- Gabe Davis

Tough decision on WRs. We really need to see what Veach does with CJ before we can really speculate on what tier of WR he might go for. I don't like the idea of top tier WR divas and the possibility of being stuck with one and an injury occurs, or they be a cancer on the locker room. Just reservations on those.
Veach wouldnt spend a lot less on Dhop, no way he gives 23mil for Evans. I think he will do exactly what he has done. If he's gonna spend money it will be for line players.
Franchise tag sneed, work a great deal for jones(pay em) sign evans and ridley(we got rice,kelce). We got the freatest QB of all time. He needs 1 to 2 more weapons on offense...
Don't need to kid ourselves about Jefferson, he's unreal. I don't want him for that amount of money but who would question if a kid can play with a 1400, 1600, 1800 yard season under his belt?

Losing Sneed would be a catastrophic disaster on D. Just outta curiosity, was there even another corner/ safety that didn't allow a TD in regular season? That difference is almost an "L" in point spread in most of our games this year. #ChiefsKingdom

There is big talk around the Chiefs making a LOT of cap room with conversions of salary to signing bonuses. I still want to see our defense come back whole before we splash for anything on offense though.
I love the thought of JJ on NYJ and now Jets have TWO top receivers they can't get the ball to.
They basically picked up a 1,000 yard WR in the second round last year and won a Super Bowl with him as their WR1. Why do they need to break the bank on JJets and lose all ability to keep that top-2 defense? Makes NO sense.

Cut MVS, Restructure PMII, Jawaan Taylor, Thuney. Pay Chris Jones. Get Mike Evans and see what you can do with Sneed.
Pushing way too much money with all those restructures. They’ll most likely only do one, two at the most.
Sneed and the defense has to be the priority, this is why the Chiefs were in the Superbowl and won it 2 years in a row. Not offense. All we need is Patrick to be great when it counts, and he will do that. As long as the defense can keep him within 1-2 scores. That is why the offense could play like shit for 3.5 quarters, and still win the game.

I love the level-headedness of most Chiefs fans re. WR mania. Patrick and his coaches develop what shows up to an amazing degree, and it happens as the year progresses. No one in the NFL is going to come in and blow us away. Getting thru KC's training camp is the first challenge for any hot-shot who wants to "break the bank." What a meathead announcement - for anybody looking for greener grass! Good hell.
With the increase salary cap and the makes me think more that Patrick Mahomes will want to restructure his contract so the get a WR, keep Jones, and keep Sneed.

They have 5 draft picks. If anything they'll trade down to get any extra picks. They're not trading for any players. They might sign a few players.

When it comes to Jefferson vs Evans it's this easy. One will be more expensive and cost you picks (Jefferson). High picks at that. Whereas the other will cost you no picks and be round 6 to 8 million cheaper per year (Evans) I think if the Chiefs can make the money work, they would heavily consider doing this. Even if only for a one year rental, for the 3 peat and to help bring along Rice and the young receiver or receiver's they choose to draft this year.
Good discussion, guys, thanks. While I like Mike Evans and would love to see him in a Chiefs uniform, signing Curtis Samuel would IMO be a cagier move. Samuel is faster (4.31 in the 40) and younger (will be 28 next season) than Evans and MVS, and he's proven himself to be a solid and reliable NFL receiver. He may not be a clear cut #1 WR, but I think he'd be a great compliment to Kelce and Rice, and an upgrade over MVS. Samuel would cost about half of what Evans will want (and about $3-$4 million less than what MVS will make next year), and don't forget how much the Chiefs covet speed at the position (not many 4.31 guys out there with Samuel's NFL experience). By signing Samuel, the Chief could cut MVS and use the extra money they would spend on Evans to resign guys like Jones, Tranquil, and maybe Danna.

I found a very frequent flaw in Chiefs related discourse: people assume that if they keep their FAs it's a foregone conclusion that the defense will be as good as last year. It might sound counter intuitive, but defense year to year is more much more volatile than offense so last season might very well be as good as it gets no matter how much of their personnel they manage to keep. Doesn't mean they will become crap, but it will very likely not be as dominant. Not to mention injury luck, which they had a lot of this year even of you consider Nnadu, Cook and Omenihu being out by the end of the year and Bolton losing half the season. Compare that to the Bills losing a third of their defense by the halfway point of the year and you could call the Chiefs relatively fortunate overall.

With JJ you’re not only talking $$$, but multiple 1st round picks to acquire via trade. Mike Evans makes much more sense from a value perspective. Curtis Samuel would be a nice Swiss Army knife in the Chiefs offense IF you can get 17 games out of him.
Chiefs didn't keep Hill because he wanted too much. There is a zero percent chance they trade for Jefferson. That is so silly. First off Veach likes his draft picks too much, as he should since he's great at using them, and it's going to take a lot to get JJ. No way they are going to give up a ton of draft capital, KC will have to give up even more than most because they pick near the bottom of the draft every year, and they aren't going to pay a receiver insane amount of money. Chiefs need to just draft a couple guys this year and pick a decently productive dude off free agency and go from there. Tyron Smith is probably the biggest name the Chiefs would be interested this free agency other than their own guys they're trying to resign.

Of course I like the idea of a big time wr, and I’m not sure if we can do this, BUT I like the idea of resigning Sneed, Jones, Tranquill, and I hate to see Gay go but he’s gone, and instead sign a Tyler Lockett or Tyler Boyd type guy or both honestly haha we don’t need a HUGE name wr, but two guys like Lockett and Boyd for example would be a HUGE boost to the wr room. No Chris Jones, no 3 peat, its that simple. Casuals like to see all that high flying stuff, of the early version of the Chiefs. Now they have settled into a winning formula, that does not require high flying circus catches. But the boring, steady, and methodical formula of winning games. The most important part of that is defense, that is the Blueprint that the Patriots used, and it was highly successful. And if the Chiefs want to continue this dynasty journey, that should continue to be the focus.
