Yes, because they traded a WR and drafted a WR, not - like Carolina did or as it is suggested here - traded a WR and drafted a QB. If they trade Jefferson and then draft - let's say - Caleb Williams, Caleb Williams will be without a No 1 receiver, so who is he going to throw to? The only way that works is if they get enough value to also draft a replacement for Jefferson on top of the rookie QB.

You'd be surprised lol. They're still trying to find the QB of the future. They could get good draft capital and JJ is gonna cost 30M$+ so they would save a lot of cap. We would also still have Jordan Addison. The Chiefs got rid of Tyreek Hill and I'd say it has paid off.

Bro, I hate to be that guy but he's missing a big part of the vikings issue. The issue isn't just JJ and Kirk, but it's having to pay them along with Danielle Hunter. They are able to keep JJ and Kirk pretty easily as long as the WR market isn't reset by CeeDee or other WR's in the market. If they can be the first to reset the market, then it will be best for them. If that happens, they might be able to get Danielle, but in the most likely case, they let Danielle walk and keep their offensive stars.

If Veach was interested in paying Jones he would have already. And with Hill we tried giving him just a slightly smaller contract, he rejected it. Veach will pay a high contract for the right player.

Easier to replace a WR than a QB. This is a evil choice ahead and it all depends on money. What is the cap hit for JJ and Kirk? This team played well WITHOUT JJ so its not hard to see them doing fine without him now but he is a beast. Mike I gotta say trade JJ if the picks are worth it. Is the haul at least as good as Tyreek Hill? If so take the deal. Cousins is harder to replace and you already have a young WR that is also great so you have to consider moving JJ

They should sign Jefferson to a 6 or 7 year deal &fully guarantee the first two or three seasons &after getting hurt &at his age I'd think Cousins would prioritize winning or everything. And if Mahomes, Burrow & Herbert didn't get fully guaranteed contracts why should Cousins? Far as I kno the Vikings aren't paying anyone huge money you can pay a WR and QB for a few seasons

As a Vikings fan, I hope we keep Kirk/acquire a veteran qb, and draft a qb in the first round to develop. That position has been an issue for us for a while. I’d hate to see Jefferson go, but if he is too expensive we need a qb more than him. We still have Addison and Hockenson. We also need to address our defensive struggles. Not a great position to be in, and we have had salary cap troubles since signing Kirk originally.
SKOL!!! Huge Vikings fan here and it’s tough, Kirk has contributed to JJs success if people are honest with themselves. But at some point you gotta try and find the next QB! Hopefully KOC can identify the right option so we can draft and sign JJ!

Chiefs picks are too high. With JJ a first one chiefs pick is 32nd overall pick basically a second rounder. Not worth it for the Vikings to trade for the last overall pick.
As a vikings fan, i don’t think it’s probable, but getting rid of both Kirk and Jefferson wouldn’t be such a bad idea.. we have the bears with some of the best picks, the packers looking pretty good in the playoffs, and the threat of the lions seems pretty rough. It’s super improbable, for the sake of keeping jobs, and us fans happy, but i don’t think we have much of a chance the next few years to go far with the division being so tough.

If the Bears were smart they would keep fields and trade the number 1 overall pick and possibly some other picks for JJ. Won’t happen but I think that would be really good for both teams.
Or they could trade Fields and the 9th overall pick with some additonal 1st rounder in 2025 for JJ. Bears get Caleb on a rookie contract and the best WR in the league, Vikings get Fields and possibly Odunze as a new WR plus some future picks.
Vikings fan, in regards to a trade it would look like a redemption for us for the Herchel Walker trade. We are able to pay both Jefferson and Cousins. I'm all for working a 3 year deal with Kirk. But to move up I'd use Danielle Hunter and our 1st round. That'd tickle the Patriots fanny.
As a Vikings fan, (and thank you for the Vikings content finally) I say you have to find a way to keep both of them. I think you give Cousins a 2-3 year deal and keep drafting QBs until you find one. Until then keep giving Cousins one year extensions, once you find a QB, you should be able to get a decent return for him in a trade kind of like the KC Alex Smith deal. But A young dominant WR doesn't come in every draft. I hate the idea of giving up on two proven players for a lottery ticket (basically what drafting a QB is) is not a real smart idea.
Problem with your plan is Cousins has a say in that. I doubt he accepts those terms, and you cant tag him. So you play him like that and he will simply walk. They either have to give Cousins what he wants or you lose him, those are the only 2 options.

JJ would have to take a sweetheart 1yr deal (to play for a ring) and then go get his bag somewhere else. I think JJ is the more important signing, and if it is just about "guarantee" money, as risky as it is, I think they should pay it. He is young, has a good work ethic, is a team leader, and has been relatively healthy. I think it is possible they can sign both although I think Kirk will command too much money in the open market and will not be willing to go down to what the Vikings are willing to give. I think the coach/GM are going to be on the hot seat after this season and if they cannot get both I think they make some kind of play for a QB, convincing Wilson to come for the minimum, dropping lots of draft picks to trade up on a QB, or perhaps getting somebody like Mayfield or Flacco on what they consider a deal which probably won't work out. Either way, even with Kirk, I think they don't spend enough of D-Line, O-Line, running back or corner and end up mid pack in a tough division. Probably the smart play would be to sign JJ, hope to get really lucky and get production out of somebody like Bo Nix at 11, and sign a FA corner, edge rusher, or running back or two.

How many WINS was JJ a part of last year? Not only did the Vikings win more games without him, they lost more games with him in the lineup than they won. JJ will never be more valuable on the trade market than right now. If the Vikings don't re-sign Kirk, or trade for Herbert or something, they risk not being able to capitalize on this value at all. Last year was their shot with their current stars. They are still in their competitive re-build mode and are set to lose their QB, D-end(s), and long-time starting safety. The assets they get for JJ are going to make a much bigger impact for the team in 2-3 years than he will alone.
His 1000 yds accounted for 2 whole wins for the Vikings last season. You can rightfully say that it wasn't his fault that they lost, but he obviously wasn't a difference maker enough if they could win 6 games without him.
If you take out the emotion and get rid of the fantasy football mindset, the most likely, highest value move, would be to trade him(obviously that's assuming they get requisite compensation).

As a lifelong Vikings fan, I fully believe moving on from the 35 year old B+/A- QB who will be coming off of a serious injury, is the correct move. I love Kirk, but there comes a time when you gotta hang it up, or move on.
If they trade Jefferson I think it should be to Houston. I know they have some talent there but they would be contenders with him. I’m a Vikings fan and I’m in on keeping both of them and drafting a qb in round 1 or 2 to sit behind Kirk for a while
