I can understand you don't like Slipknot, I'm not saying you have to like them, but you can't deny the fact that this guy has talent. Everyone in slipknot, actually.
@salgado27 mick thomson signature ibanez rg. you can get them in white, red, black, and i heard something about a green one being released but im not sure yet
@slayerownzu Which one?? lol He's playing songs off of their All Hope Is Gone album. The 1st song is Vendetta, the 2nd is at 3:54 the song is called Gematria (The Killing Name).
@ScreamynDemon and his pickups, there a HUGE part of his sound, Seymore duncan signature black outs, Jim uses normal EMGs.. i know one is a 60, but other not sure, but mick uses 12 gauge strings, signature pickups, heads and cabs, fucking amazing tone
@PrsFenderJackson1980 In my experience, u gotta have speakers of the same wattage or very similar wattage, unless ur cabinet is wired to handle certain different wattages and stuff. My preferred arrangement would be two vintage 30s and two G12T-75s.
@coller666 really? cuz i thought that the first one they started selling was red, then they released the black one, now the "affordable" white one, and that theyre supposed to release a green one
i have blackouts in my MTM1 and blackout metal in my pink alexi 600se. for the active side i'd say they slay the emg's. i love emg's as well but the blackouts don't have that compressed sound and has way more dynamics to the sound. more crunch, more punch, more balls
honestly, his Rivera heads are fucking amazing, if your one who wants those brutal dropped metal fucking tunes, then there amazing, who cares if you love him or hate him, rip off the seven signs off, those tube heads are amazing, and with those Rivera cabs are amazing too!! they make any head sound amazing! Mick knows his shit once it comes cabs and how to get your sound! love this guy!!
@gdb..try ESP...look up there eclipse models..especially the ec-100qm..pick ups aren't great but they get the job done for slipknot...and they handle low tunings well...I've played down to drop a no problem
I'm SO glad he's talking about needing TONE rather than WATTS to get a big sound. So many people, especially metal guitarists scoop mids, and its a huge mistake. On a side note, looks like Dave Fortman's at the board(guitarist from Ugly Kid Joe, also produced "Fallen" Evanescence). cool stuff!
If you notice, Micks guitar sound is a little tighter than Jims. That's because his strings are a bit bigger and the speakers he uses are better for drop tuned, high gain stuff.
@IWatchedHerDrown I wasn't talking about "Fame" i was just saying i'd like to see him join a Death Metal band cause he would do great, since he's done solos for Malevolent Creation. I wasn't demanding for him to switch, its just my opinion.
omfg how does he downpick that fast i never noticed him do that in some of his songs, he IS one of the best metal guitarists ive ever seen+hes fukin huge
@DrummerRF Yes, you can believe me, I'm a guitarplayer and this song: gematria (the killing name) is really amazing! I've never seen a new metal song as hard to play lol
jim has a telecaster and its not orginal pickups hes got emg-51 and 81's i think and i find it wierd hes got one of them and he also uses a orange amp very twangy but hes a metal guitarist :S
he did an interveiw once ages ago i think and caused abit of trouble so since then he doesnt do interveiws. I think they asked him what he would be doing if he wasnt in the band and he said killing people XD. There is a little clip where he doesnt say anything in an interveiw of the volimal dvd but thats it.
I respect guitarists/bassists that can specifically describe their amp settings and recommended settings
watching a guitarist play in the studio is an amazing thing to see!
Definitely one of the most underrated guitar players in metal. Mick's a fucking monster! 🤘🏻
This guy's guitar playing skills are underrated...
+james revenge It's only because he's playing in worthless mainstream band. That's why.
if slipknot's mainstream i'm harambe
"worthless" k....
james revenge he’s such an underrated guitar player
@@thunderprawn8478 with the amount of love I have for slipknot they're very mainstream. Probably the heaviest metal band to make it into mainstream
I can understand you don't like Slipknot, I'm not saying you have to like them, but you can't deny the fact that this guy has talent. Everyone in slipknot, actually.
i can listen to this guy talk guitar all day long
he knows so much
hes so underrated
This Cold Black, Vendetta and The Killing Name :D
was his previous rig used for rehearsal
@salgado27 mick thomson signature ibanez rg. you can get them in white, red, black, and i heard something about a green one being released but im not sure yet
Wow... Mick finally shows his face. He didn't even reveal himself for the guitarworld gear tour.
@vertisvirtuoso its called "Vendetta" from all hope is gone. my fav. song on the album.
@slayerownzu Which one?? lol He's playing songs off of their All Hope Is Gone album. The 1st song is Vendetta, the 2nd is at 3:54 the song is called Gematria (The Killing Name).
they actually have a spray that u spray ur fretboard with that makes it slick for faster playing and slides, but it dulls ur strings out
Song (in the recording studio) is Vendetta off of the latest album
@ScreamynDemon and his pickups, there a HUGE part of his sound, Seymore duncan signature black outs, Jim uses normal EMGs.. i know one is a 60, but other not sure, but mick uses 12 gauge strings, signature pickups, heads and cabs, fucking amazing tone
sounds great clean. Blackouts sound epic no matter what kind of gain is used, be it HIGH GAIN, or none at all.
my favourite slipknot member !!! th1s guy is just crazy
Mick really brings that fine tuned, articulate Death Metal sound to Slipknot
@PrsFenderJackson1980 In my experience, u gotta have speakers of the same wattage or very similar wattage, unless ur cabinet is wired to handle certain different wattages and stuff.
My preferred arrangement would be two vintage 30s and two G12T-75s.
@Jump7Style
Sounds like Vendetta from All Hope Is Gone
@DieForHerPhilosophy thats what i was wondering aswell. That is a Moss jersey he's wearing. Glad to see he's repping the Silver and Black
If you pause it at 2:05, why are there couple of KR100's sitting in his rack?
@coller666 really? cuz i thought that the first one they started selling was red, then they released the black one, now the "affordable" white one, and that theyre supposed to release a green one
@MusicFan479 What do you think 'Jim' is short for? He goes by both.
@swedisheinherjer that riff and the one before it are from gematria
what song is he playing from 3:54 to 4:21? those riffs are awesome what song is the 4:13-4:21 riff from? plzz answer ,
THAT freaking WRIST MAN!!!! lol this video is an inspiration
i have blackouts in my MTM1 and blackout metal in my pink alexi 600se. for the active side i'd say they slay the emg's. i love emg's as well but the blackouts don't have that compressed sound and has way more dynamics to the sound. more crunch, more punch, more balls

Mick knows his shit once it comes cabs and how to get your sound! love this guy!!
@scenicskateboards Thanx. I love that riff, but i didn't know da song.
@Powermetal45 i forget , but its on all hope is gone album....maybe its vendetta
correct me if i'm wrong but is that Lamb of God playing the background when's he's first talkin about his amp?
who knows that riff he is playing when this video starts? or song title....i love it......
@gdb..try ESP...look up there eclipse models..especially the ec-100qm..pick ups aren't great but they get the job done for slipknot...and they handle low tunings well...I've played down to drop a no problem
I think the most stand out thing about Mick's playing, to me, is his trem. picking.
I'm SO glad he's talking about needing TONE rather than WATTS to get a big sound. So many people, especially metal guitarists scoop mids, and its a huge mistake. On a side note, looks like Dave Fortman's at the board(guitarist from Ugly Kid Joe, also produced "Fallen" Evanescence). cool stuff!
He can sure play some really tight, fast and focused riffs! I wonder if he uses a noise gate in his signal path?
That and a power conditioner is a must anywhere. But his playing does not rely on it haha
All Hope is Gone is great because of the guitar work.
its called vendetta and genetria the killing name its off thr all hope is gone album
If you notice, Micks guitar sound is a little tighter than Jims. That's because his strings are a bit bigger and the speakers he uses are better for drop tuned, high gain stuff.
I love the way this guy talks
what's the song in the beginning
Rivera makes really good amps. Built for touring. Shipping the amps from show to show are really tough on them. These things last for ever.
can anyone tell me what brand and model guitar he is using, and what size strings he uses also
What song does he play with his white Ibanez?
what's that song at the beginning
@IWatchedHerDrown I wasn't talking about "Fame" i was just saying i'd like to see him join a Death Metal band cause he would do great, since he's done solos for Malevolent Creation. I wasn't demanding for him to switch, its just my opinion.
whats the song he's playin in the beginning?
Which song does he play at 3:53 ?

Yep
This guy is so cool!
what song was it at 4:20 ?
omfg how does he downpick that fast i never noticed him do that in some of his songs, he IS one of the best metal guitarists ive ever seen+hes fukin huge
@BuckyBadger513
Big Thanks
@DrummerRF Yes, you can believe me, I'm a guitarplayer and this song: gematria (the killing name) is really amazing! I've never seen a new metal song as hard to play lol

mick is a beast !! extreme guitarist
Man that would be sick to jam with that dude.
jim has a telecaster and its not orginal pickups hes got emg-51 and 81's i think and i find it wierd hes got one of them and he also uses a orange amp very twangy but hes a metal guitarist :S
Ibanez MTM-2 Mick Thomson Signature used :)
he did an interveiw once ages ago i think and caused abit of trouble so since then he doesnt do interveiws. I think they asked him what he would be doing if he wasnt in the band and he said killing people XD. There is a little clip where he doesnt say anything in an interveiw of the volimal dvd but thats it.

he is a great guitar player!!
no it's butcher's hook from the album all hope is gone
what song is he playing??
does anyone know what strings hes using
@IIVikingII hey what is gematria
@DarkJoker95 if u mean the song,its vendetta
They didnt in Cedar Rapids...
hes got some kickass riff-ness goin on
I love how he uses SD pickups. EMG's are too digital and crunchy. SD's are natural, heavy sounding pickups and you can pick that out in their music.
jim uses emg. U'RE SAYING JIM'S TONE IS DIGITAL AND CRUNCH? STFU
What is that song at 1:20? anyone?
Vendetta from the "All Hope is Gone" album.
PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME THE SONG HE IS PLAYING IN THE STUDIO!!
I believe it's Gematria (the killing name)
@Antagonist2010 thanks dude
great riffs/..........
Mick is a good guitarist for technical death metal
Very cool that Mick knows his shit. A lot of these guys that have sig amps have no idea about their specs.
@brrr102 no i see it to...i think he just has a round face and if comes off as fate when in reality hes just huge but in a good way
.14 guage strings?
the songs are slipknot?
3:55-4:20 what's the name of the song?
Gemtria
they also do Drop A where its AEADGB
4:17 Whats song is that??
Gematria
Any know how tall he is :D ?
FUCK!!!! we need Gematria live right fucking now!!!
0:03 - 0:16 song ?
