Did you know that Zomba has entered six tournaments of at least 200 entrants since offline tournaments returned in April 2021. He has achieved or beaten his seed at all six of them. Do you think that Zomba should be seeded higher?
This stat and more from Zomba's PGstats.com player page: www.pgstats.com/ultimate/player/Zomba?id=S370802&minEntrants=200&online=offline&timeFilter=CUSTOM&timeValue=2021-04-01%2C2022-01-06
He should be. There needs to be more data and of course humans aren't perfect
Definitely. It’s probably hard though because the attendees vary a lot from major to major.
Well, it seems pretty simple. If a B student starts consistently getting A's, then they should be called an A student.
What does the seed mean?
@@Emul7ifier yeah but what really matters is his stats against the top players in tournaments - winning 5 nationals is still less impressive than 1 world title in any sport, including esports
dude came out of nowhere and beat some of the best. sounds like an anime plot but I guess quarantine boredom got people grinding
Zomba's been on the come-up for a while. The guy won a massive online tournament literally week 1 of Ultimate's release and he's been slowly getting better and better ever since. A breakout run like this was only a matter of time for him.
He beat raito when he was like 14 lol
Zomba has been an insane WiFi warrior since Smash 4 and has been grinding a lottt. It’s not surprising to me that he’s doing good now after so long
Similar story to Spargo. Zomba is another younger player who has always been pretty good. He was a great Wifi player in Smash 4 and now in ultimate is ranked no.2 in NY behind Dabuz. Since he’s travelling more and entering more events, he’s improving exponentially, just like Spargo is. Both of them reached a new level during quarantine
that's like half the top players now....some 15-17 year old who good out the get go
I don't think that every time the backair doesn't connect is a "whiff"
sometimes you're just trying to use it for spacing, saying to the opponent "ok you can't be here right now, go another way"
What would be a better term for it?
@@kipper1668 area denial
@@DroppedMyMarbles marbles
One question, is area denial also supposed to be less punishable than a whiff?
@@BuenDiaaa i would argue by definition a whiff is a mistake that leaves you vulnerable yes
I never seen any ROB use bair like him. Really amazing how the meta of a character is never set in stone.
Zomba was insane. Watching him blow up CEO was amazing then just destroyed the world champion ship. Definitely the best rob when it comes to cheesing stocks as well.
Bro I was so upset when he cheesed kola on last stock
not really
Good for zomba tbh, gald to see young players pop up, and always fun to see new faces that look this solid. Hopefully he keeps going to majors and improving.
He’s not rlly new tho
@@foks0054 He did get top 8 at CEO the week before.
@@foks0054 tru
Rob is my fav, his back air does have a bit of a windup but it looks and feels as strong as a dropkick.
Is there somewhere where you can see the chart of all the ariel in the game (frame data) that was used in this video with each square being labeled with the move?
It’s hype to see Zomba get a documentary style video
I’m a zomba fan
Dude this is actually super sick to see
I used to be in an online crew with Zomba back in the smash 4 days, (Final Stock was the name) and it’s super cool seeing how he went from a kid that’s pretty good at online smash, (I was the same) to beating dudes left and right and getting a whole move named after him.
Good shit Zomba.
You’re almost making me regret quitting smash a couple years ago.
This might actually get me to come back soon. I kinda miss it.
So sad that it took over 2 years for rob mains to find out they had a bair 😔
Been close friends with zomba for about 7 years now, so proud to see how far he’s come :)
Please tell him I said hi. I've been maining rob since I started playing smash bros 2 years ago and he is why I still use him. My name is Jeziel.
Dang the quality of content this channel had is still mind blowing has yet to be match, I miss these guys
EL DIABLO!!
Nobody would have predicted Zomba at 4th. Huge run from him
From nowhere to 4th at SWT. What a statement.
I wouldn’t say nowhere. He top 8’d CEO, and had solid upper bracket major results before SWT. This just made him more of a household name.
Great content. Side note: I've heard the "Br1" of Br1 AV is pronounced "Bruno," because he's from Ecuador. It made sense to me. Correct me if I'm wrong. 😅
1 is "uno" in spanish so Br-uno lol
We don't talk about Bruno~
We coming back to this Classic after Zomba's win at Genesis X. That Zombair was huge vs Sonix including a game where Zomba took all 3 of Sonix's stocks with thr Zombair.
This is thebliving embodiment of, "You have to be lucky every time... I just have to get lucky once."
9!
As much as seeing a Rob succeed is cool, I refuse to accept back air being renamed "El Diablo" lol.
Amazing content! I love and appreciate analysis like this that puts numbers in context, or takes a close look at something specific
I haven't been following Smash for a long time, but this is interesting. ROB has always been my main since his introduction in Brawl and it's nice to see he is getting the hype he deserves and especial his back air - it's always been one of my favorite moves. I'm no pro player, but it;'s surprising how often it's slow startup catches people off guard in more casual play.
I'm surprised it took so long for this move to be commonly used by ROBs because Corrin's back air which is essentially the same thing (just slightly faster, slightly weaker, and better range) has been used for a long time. Not saying this in any sort of demeaning thing, it's just interesting to see how similar moves work in different character's kits.
I don't play or watch smash and the competitive scene at all but this was entertaining as heck to watch!
I’ve mained R.O.B since Brawl, and the current iteration of him is just absolutely perfect to me. Gyro is undeniably his best move (imo, even better than down-tilt), but his back-air is an absolutely essential part of his kit. Despite being slow to start up, it’s surprisingly safe and essential as a mobility option.
Do we really want to count his set vs Shuton in any sort of data given the underdog boost was on?
i’m very much of this opinion that zomba likely would have won anyway, it still sucks and we likely won’t ever know for sure, but you can’t deny that he still could have won anyway
Yes because whether you like it or not it counts
@@davidc.
OP: "Should we count it?"
You: "Yes, because it counts."
Why?
Sick analysis, hope I can find this sort of content for tekken
The powder blue on white thumbnail works very well, good job.
So happy you talked about me gunners down air...its disrespectful how bad they made it
Yea that run and overall Zomba’s recent performance is insane. And R.O.B. kinda sick ngl.
You know things changes when you got a move named after you , like wobbling in Melee
I asked for senior quote ideas and Zomba told me to use “Call it El Diablo, call it the Zombair”
Awesome video. Smooth narration and great graphics!
When Zomba clutched it out against Shuton I was hyped to see him move forward in bracket.
What an incredibly well made video. Nice job
That Roy should have countered the back airs. It would at least be better than waiting for death tbh
This video was really well done! Subbed for sure!
Thanks for doing what you do man
I knew nothing about these sets. But this video was super entertaining I just couldn’t put it away
Imagine if the back air was still like it was in SSBB.. that would be insane
What a well done video, Jon Bois would be proud.
Any more info about this melee player reaction data @3:54 ? Is the study public somewhere? Or is there an article about it?
It seems really sus honestly. For games like DBFZ, pro players who have gotten top 8 in EVO will be adamant about how a 17f move like Z Broly's grab is unreactable with only new players who think they're hot shit in that game calling it reactable. A lot of the time when you think you're reacting to these very fast moves, you're actually reacting to the situations those moves would be used in and predicting its use, and then unconsciously assuming you reacted to the move itself. Using just frame data itself is very misleading in general, as how the animation actually works is the most important part. Something like Z Broly's grab in DBFZ is 17f startup but he only noticeably lifts his arm up around 4 frames into the animation, so you have 13f to actually react to it which might be impossible even with insane reactions and only focusing on the grab which is just going to lead to you getting opened up by other, normally reactable moves. Something like rob's back air which is more clear about what rob is doing during the early frames could be reactable, if only barely and requiring great reactions still.
@@somekinnn appreciate the analysis.
super well edited video! thumb's and subbed
How he redefined the character: Spamming bair even when it's not working until it does. What a world we live in...
R.O.B in Smash: "fast god-like fighting" *anime ninja speed*
R.O.B in real life: "infiltrate western gaming market!" *slow grinding noises*
El Diablo dude. We should get names like that for every good back air in the game lol. There are so many tbh. What would we call Roy's Bair?
The giga chads refer to it as "the devil"
I CAST YOU OUT
My fave move is throwing a top at the ground, backstepping, then when the opponent single mindedly goes for the top I'm already hitting them with my side b. Even if they get and throw it in time I just reflect the top back! It's also good for controlling the space right in front of the ledge. People forget it hits when spinning in place.
Zombair all day, every day.
I love these underdogs that get popular all of the sudden, does anyone still remember the reaction to Peanuts Little Mac for the first time?
zomba ran my LCQ pools that tourney, did not know he was going to make greatness in the next few days 😳
They call him R.O.B. because that's what he'll do to you
Let's go Zomba, R.O.B. still is my favorite smash character ever to play as so I'm happy he's getting so much attention in the Ultimate meta. I like smash 4 R.O.B. more with a focus on grabs but I get why he kinda sucked compared to now.
This reminds me of the time daigo only used shoryukens randomly in SF
Now, I have been using Ganondorf against my brother lately, and he cannot seem to beat me. We think we know why, and we think it puts Ganon at the top of the tiers. I will be brief. Ganondorf has his air forward. We call it 'The Punch.' It has that special hitbox like a sword, hence it goes right through anything except an attack with that same type of hitbox. It does 17% max, is relatively fast executing, has basically instant recovery on a barrier cancel, and is quite massive, killing at rather low percentages.
this feels like a copypasta but at the same time i don't recognize it so maybe not?
@@aaronole77 The Punch
@@aaronole77 This guy is the one who says "I can beat anyone at smash bros."
LETS GO ZOMBA
Zomba made me enjoy watching Rob gameplay
"this does put a smile on my face"
what did we learn?
spam the killmove till u win
Title implies R.O.B needed redeeming 😎
We call him the Bair Witch
These clips are found footage
Don't sleep on R.O.B. :)
new rob meta is turning on underdog boost 👍
Jokerback air ≈ Zombair
Insert underdog boost joke here
Everyone i play with says rob is weak, i am glad that they have now been proved wrong. I am still bad at playing him but he is still my main
so ur saying i was playing like a pro when i pick rob and only fish for back air
ZOMBAIR
Don’t get me wrong, I’m here for Walt talking about ultimate. But, hearing him talk about ROB and ultimate in general may take some getting used to.
it’s so weird to hear walt talk about ultimate and not melee
Put some respect on my man Lucrecio
I don’t foresee this being viable for a long time though. Rob is a character that you rapidly improve playing against. Pros will adapt quick.
Robo-punch.
WaDi is gonna be PISSED.
EL DIABLO
Ok but I’ve been complaining about rob since it was released
people get mad at me for playing Rob, and this is exactly why.
Wait, this isn't about CPU beating Ken in EVO.
context as to why its called the "El Diablo"?
I've always said it
RoB is busted
2 Projectiles, 1 that auto charges
Amazing aerials
Amazing recovery
Amazing attacks/special attacks
Reflector
His grab can bury
Solid weight
He has a option for everything
The only con is that's he doesn't look as cool as some of the others
But if we're talking frame data and hitboxes
This character is BUSTED
Don't forget his size is a pretty big con too.
Might be top 5 bulkiest hurtboxes.
the zomBAIR
he plays fairly similar to lucretio in bair use, just with better neutral n less tech
This goes to show that it's always a good idea to re-approach a character even if you already main it. I like to take a week off from the game and come back, look at my frame data again, asses which options I'm sleeping on, and hit the lab. I'm a Yoshi main and there's always new egg throw angles, setups, and confirms to explore.
This video is cool. But under no circumstance can a player understand and react to a 13 frame attack
is this about wadi?
It's slow for a reason.
Hits like a dump truck.
Hits like a fat women charging into McDonald's.
Hits harder then Jesus saying "I told you so"
Hits so hard... You get it. It's good
did walt make this?
They say this is best run from a ROB since quarantine but I think they forgot BigBoss got 4th at Port Priority with wins over MysterySol, Chronos and Lui$. Only losing to Leo and Tweek. I’d say if it’s not just as good it at least deserved to be mentioned.
That's not really a fair comparison. From the players you named only one is pgr. The other two are not even pgr. Yeah still a far run but he did not really beat any good player besides lui$. While zomba. Won against riddles and tarik In Pools going 3-0 not dropping one game and only losing to cosmos which he admitted he kinda choked.
@@firefatesgaming1855 I think it is a fair comparison. Things don’t have to be equal to be compared. Like I said at the end if it’s not just as good it at least deserved to be mentioned, they both got 4th at a major, I can admit Zomba bracket path was a little more stacked. Also the pgr hasn’t been updated in 2 years, chronos is #1 in Colorado (recently beat Kola) and mysterysol is #1 in Washington so I think of them both as pgr level.
@@draymondstreamz8268 you can be pgr in your state but that does not mean your good enough for the pgr. There still alot players that are that are not on the pgr which don't life in the us get the chance to travel much . For example Yei from Costa Rico, sonix, shiny mark, Quik, qisqui, mii gunner, The Japanse Pt i forget the name.
Skyjay, Meme, (the other Mexican pyra/mythra, Mexican ridley, Lea, chag, raflow, flow, Tarik
If where talking about the us which are not ranked yet
You have Zomba, Tilde, Quidd, pkchris, sirup, Yonni, toast, Ling Ling, icymist, aaron, zd, pick fresh, dm, mr L, T3Dom . That's only us. And there might be hidden bosses.
The two player you sayed i never heard of them until chronos beat kola and magister went on run. So i doubt that there good enough for the pgru.
@@firefatesgaming1855 I feel like you don’t realize that the pgr hasn’t been updated in 2 years and the top 50 players have changed since then.
@@draymondstreamz8268 know i realized but i don't see those player top 50 pgr. If the pgr start up top 70 at best.
Risk versus reward is skewed towards the reward
Time to watch ROB vods???👀
zomba wins !!
2024?
rip lucretio lol, he's been preaching bair and bbs since 2019
Kinda weird to say "ambiguous" in a game where block direction doesn't matter but ok
That fantastic voice 👍
I read "How A one HANDED player redefined ROB..." a little disappointed but good video at least
So no TDFW credit?
WADIII???
I like ROB
