Did this for over 6 yrs back and forth to New York, I had to get used to it!! Especially during the night, I stayed awake until we crossed the bridge. Great experience
This was the coolest drive ever! Did it a few times, but would absolutely love to do this on a summer night during a full moon and not a cloud in the sky! Have to admit though the first time I drove this seeing the roadway look like it’s disappearing under water gets your attention!
This is a magnificent bridge I live in the state of Virginia I love going to Virginia Beach but I love taking the trip on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel going through the bridge and everything is awesome I love it it's excitement from me I went last year 2020 hopefully I'll go this summer 2021 Virginia is for Lovers who's with me in 2021

Thank you! I came across the name of this bridge while on google and couldn't understand how it was a Bridge-Tunnel. I'm in Michigan and we have one or the other. Lol In Detroit you have a choice to do one or the other to get to Canada. This explains everything. Thank you! Amazing infrastructure!
I used to ride across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel when I was stationed aboard my first ship in the Navy in Norfolk,VA. I was stationed aboard the USS Seattle AOE- during my first enlistment in the Navy. I used to go home on weekends th when I didn’t have duty. A lot of active duty Navy sailors in Norfolk were weekend commuters. Many traveled across the Chesapeake Bay on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel.

I’m getting anxiety just watching this. I was on a bus to Virginia and woke up to us sitting. I looked up and saw the water and almost passed out. This bridge freaks me out so much.
What about this? You are traveling on a bridge and you are 150 feet over the water. It's night, a blinding rainstorm, and there is a greyhound bus traveling in front of you. Suddenly, the lights of the bus disappear, you slam on your breaks and come within 14 inches of your front tires going over the edge. You find out 35 people weren't so lucky. It happened. The Skyway Bridge disaster.
I was on submarines then navigator and drove a 1956 two tone brown chevy nomad towing a 31 model A to my brothers place in Delaware Thanks again fir the memory jog

Lol people used to say the tunnel was gonna cave due to cracks in the walls so that made it all the more scary! Lol thanks a bunch for sharing.

I don't think that I would drive on the Bay Bridge where it leads your the tunnel. That's a 17 mile drive that I am not crazy about doing. Real talk.

Just saying what if its a break down or major accident and you have cars lined up for miles how do they get emergency trucks and tow trucks in the tunnel it's only two lanes no shoulder to ride on.
Just read that after 3 miles, a tunnel is much cheaper to build and probably maintain. Money grows on trees. Think about how much sun, rain, wind, damage this damn thing takes in a year. And if the is a mix of salt and freshwater, then add in the salt damage.

Well, it’s so big that there are many people, but they are spread pretty far out because everyone unanimously agrees to give each other space, that being said, this does look like a sorta slow day.
I've never crossed any ocean and I'm breathing like the air pilots breathe while they are flying the jet fighters, that is too crazy for me, I've never went on a cruise ship, too much water for me to swallow and if it's bigger than my bathtub not getting in or on it, never flown either, don't even want to fly over an ocean😱😬😬

i use to cross it when i was on the Kennedy back in the 70's. back then their was only one bridge. most of the time i cross at night!

I went into a tunnel part just as a sub out of Norfolk was going out to sea, so the sub was overhead.
It’s a real fear. Like fear of heights or fear of flying.

They have two trucks on side exits of this tunnel.
If you are very scared of this bridge like I was once, keep going back on it. They say exposure is the best therapy.
