I don´t know how much time you got to play with it, I'm an MG4E gunner, and you can actually remove the barrel with the bolt forward. Personally i love the gun, i had to put it through a lot of abuse and it performed flawlessly, dead accurate in full auto (an ACOG NSN helped) and reliable as hell. Fell down a hill during an assault, dropped with safety off "lone survivor" style and ammo on the tray and didn´t misfire, later it kept shooting without zeroing issues, with the reciever full of dirt and stuff. You could actually see all the crap thrown off the openings in the gun with every shot. My favourite gun ever, even if i felt wrong when i had to change my MG3 for it
I'm really glad that my employer buys from H&K. This gun is currently on arrival for us, slowly entering service piece by piece. Instead of 2 guys operating one MG3, we will now field 2 guys, weilding a MG4 each.
@Dr. Dolf this has nothing to do with german guns still beeing great. the projects that get fucked up are always fucked up cause civilian politicians decide what to do and what to buy. the equipment is great, there is just not enough money for propper maintanance. leftist and green politics, the problem of modern society.
@Dr. Dolf i said guns. plus, with chinese and russian tech its always the thing that their stuff always looks superior on paper in reality not so much. and submarines are still some of the best in the world, when they work or course :D
@Dr. Dolf Keine Wirkung? Die Terroristen hatten 20 Verluste und nochmal so viele Verletzten😂 Das Gefecht ging 10 Stunden lang bei 40° da gibt jedes Gewehr nach einer Zeit auf
Yeah the MG3 + Ammo Box weights 14kg, almost twice as much as the MG4. Also it's very large and the carry belt is poorly designed - cuts deep into your shoulder. The only thing more annoying was to carry the Panzerfaust 3.
Actually the MG3 is used by the Infantery aswell .Most of the time by a single person ,sometimes by two .I know this for sure because i'm a German Soldier. (Panzergrenadier)
Rusher Motovlog thank you for your service.i secretly wish i was brought up in europe to be in european military. But its very strict and l dont want to join US military because my heart doesnt go out to it 😂
Even with disintegrating metal link belts, link+linked round on top of the feed tray will do the same thing. Shot multiple machine guns, know what you're talking about.
H&K first and foremost produces for the german military, and not long ago, the german miltary was forbidden to take action outsiede of europe. So, the need for a gun, relyable in the temperatures of the middle east, was just not given. The issues were adressed and I think are taken care of.
@@bingbengbangbangbingbung4903 A G36 with all accesoires costs the german army something about 600 Euros in total. That's a pretty average pricetac i would guess. No german soldier in afghanistan ever seriously complained about the G36 being "unreliable". The G36 has a very good reputation amongst german soldiers in general. The whole G36 afair that led to the decision to replace it until 2025 was fabricated by certain politicians and media outlets to blame H&K.
The semi auto fire selector and 3 round burst should have been put in that gun as well. Great weapon. Love the design. Thanks for the video good review...
I never really used my safety on my M249. I would just ride the bolt forward when riding inside vehicles. Sometimes if you had a well used SAW the trigger sear would be worn enough that if you hit a hard bump the bolt would slam forward and fire a round....Great vid Larry, thanks for showing us this beauty
We use the C9, a Canadian M249 variant in the Canadian forces as the machine gun for the gunner of each section. It differentiates from the M249 because it does have a side folding stock in a style of the traditional AR-15 retractable stock (if that is what it is called).
Yes. It has a proper name (that nobody knows) but its commonly referred to in the military as a nut sack. I've even seen it written out on hand receipts from supply as "nut sack"
I think the semi auto feature is really important as an element of surprise, imagine if you will you come up against someone just shooting semi auto, then you don't really know what you're up against, you might try a simple half squad flanking move and then all of a sudden a full powered MG opens up with your forces split and you're totally pinned down - not a good day.
I hear ya on the zeroing, but that's already done with single shot placed manually on a range where time isn't an issue. Field Zero in combat conditions is rare. Cool Machine gun, I like the newer features too, I think a carrying handle integrated into the optic on a LMG or MMG would be very useful in assaulting and 3-5 second rushes.
They're long, heavy, unreliable, and have terrible felt recoil. The prices turn their products from sad to comical. When H&K can replicate the performance of a $400 bottom-of-the-barrel AR15, I'll start to pay attention to them. The Germans have come up with some real winners in the industry. Before WW2, they came up with more than 50% of the good shit. The rest of the world combined struggled to come up with less than what the Germans did. But since WW2, maybe 3 guns? H&K had that MP5, and it sure is a nice SMG. But other than that the company is an embarrassment.
Hey Larry I'm Sean, just watched ur vid on full 30, why I'm fat, just gonna say for one ur not that far and two ur a fuckin hero and we will appreciate u forever. Thank u for ur service and keep soldiering on.
Actually you do not need the bolt to be locked back for you to change the barrel. All you need to do is lift up the carry handle and press the barrel release lever. " The barrel can be changed with either the bolt in battery or out of battery" HK Rep Shotshow 2013
Larry, I wish you had spent more time talking about its features, pros&cons. Would have also been nice if you had taken it appart like you used to do in the good ol' days.
Could someone explain how can his voice sound louder than the actual gun-blasts??? In so many videos I see guns with no supressor/silencer, and their blasts sound so soft, almost silent. Thanks in advance for your answer.
Always got irritated when someone suggests firing bursts to zero... that and when they set up the range to zero on a vehicle target that takes 3 rounds to drop vs a troop that takes 1 round
Agree completely with the SEF option MSG... it's why I LOVE the Negev... offers a closed-bolt semi option for zeroing and precision/POA shooting. Great review as always, however, WE WANT TO SEE A MAG DUMP IN THESE VIDEOS! Out of curiosity, how does the HK MG4 compare to HK's previous machine guns, namely the HK23E? If at all possible, I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison between the two 5.56 machine guns in question and get your thoughts on them both.
I love the folding bolt and the feed tray indicated but not being able to engage the safety without an open bolt seems troublesome, combat wise at least.
You can't switch the safety on unless the bolt is locked? Not too sure what HK was thinking there. Don't get me wrong, HK has a history of making some spectacular guns, but some of their decisions regarding design elements of their products have been questioned before. +Mrgunsngear Channel "automatically interested"
I see what you did there.
Yeah but every light machinegun will evolve soon so we might not what we have today but tomorrow you gonna like it
I carried a C9 the Canadian SAW. I loved it. How come you didn't like it
What if there was something more compact. Something that looks like one cut down an m240b to make it.
Its got a waxed cavas bag so a metal box doesnt pinch, chill, heat you while working.
The MG3 looks so much cooler in my opinion. Still a sweet gun though.

3:05 you can zero every automatic LMG properly if you put only every 2nd round in the belt, aaand there is your semi-automatic for zeroing purpose.
No, because then the belt would fall apart. The rounds are what hold the belt together
You have different types of ammunitions belts. We used "non-disintegrating belts" for MG3 (I hope, it's the right term for it in english).
+M1TGLIED If I understand correctly, Germany uses non-disintegrating belts and the USA uses disintegrating belts.

That's not them clipping the audio. They adjust the levels to make sure the sound of the gun isn't too loud for the viewer.
