I am watching this 2015 vlog in 2020 and I am impressed with how much you have developed and improved your content. Not to say this is bad, not at all, but it’s wonderful to see how successful you have been with growing your channel, expanding your content and its whole aesthetic. Sometimes things only become noticeable when they are contrasted with something. You’ve really crafted a unique visual personality for your channel over these five years. Thank you for all the work you have been doing to make your channel something special for amateur (me) and professional aviation enthusiasts.
It is amazing how much Mentour Pilot has progressed! He never gave up and now in 2022 his content is so professional! Well done Mentour! Even this being his first video is still really good content!
I've been a subscriber for a few years now and just decided to go back to your earliest videos and I love the old content but obviously, as you should, you have developed and perfected your presentation and methodology and it shows how far you have come but I have a request/suggestion. I would love to see a good chunk of your old content topics covered in your newer developed style. This video is a perfect example. It would be interesting to see and hear a more advanced discussion with the animation and added research you presently do on how pilots balance career and family. In fact I've watched your first 7 videos from 9 years ago and all of them would make great videos. Regardless I love your page. I subscribe to several hundred RUclips pages and you and Milo miniminuteman are unquestionably my two favorites and have been for quite awhile now. Thank you for all the great content, history, information and entertainment.
You’ve made the perfect choice by making this video. I thank you for teaching me and many others about not only aviation but other things like life, physics, and much more. Again, I thank you for taking the initiative to start the Mentour Pilot channel. On that day, a legend is born. Anyways, nice video, thanks a lot!
Lol, I’m just beginning the “deep dive” into Mentour’s video catalogue. I figure it’ll take me a few months to be able to catch up to the newest videos. Wish me luck.
I know a single pilot who flew private jets who finally gave it up because he was on call 24/7 and had to commute from where ever the plane landed back home. I enjoy your videos.
Hey Dude! Thanks for this. I am watching this content now in 2023 when it’s already 8 years old. I‘m just getting into aviation and tinkering with the idea of becoming an airline pilot. Would you mind revisiting these questions so that they reflect your current situation? You’re producing so much content nowadays. But how did your passion as an actual pilot develop? How much did the working conditions at the airline change? Are you still happy about your job? What changed generally in modern airlines? I would be most thankful for recent insights :))
So interesting to hear your outlook on pilot life vs. Kelsey over at 74Gear - who seems like a confirmed bachelor happy doing long hauls. Both of you do fantastic content and are obviously dedicated and excellent pilots. I love following you both, and your collaboration was great!
+Mentour Pilot Thank you very much for this sound answer. It's easy to get caught up on details, but you are very right. Do you think someone who cannot get a bachelor's degree still has a chance at flying, airline & flying altogether. Thanks.
+Edgar Castro where did you go to school or did you go to the military to get your training? I'm considering either going to Embry riddle to get my commercial license or go into the Air Force. I love flying and I want it to be my future and commercial piloting is one way I might get to do what I love!
Hi Solomon, I´m not married yet but it is not that bad, actually I think it can be something good for your marriage, when you get back from a 2 or 3 days trip you will see each other with more entusiastm. But you will be more time at home that you think
***** What a pleasant surprise I wasn't expecting a reply from you!! :D But anyways I just wanna let you know I love your videos and am an aviation enthusiast myself. I dream of being a pilot however, I would wanna live a life slightly better than middle-class if you know what I mean. You said that being a pilot doesn't make you rich. But your car certainly gives a very wealthy impression about you.
+Mentour Pilot I started with flight sim about five years ago. Have my own set up. Last Saturday, I decided it was time to take it a step further and I did my first flight lesson. I absolutely loved it. I am jealous you do this for a living and I hope one day I'll be able to aswell. I do realize it would take a great amount of money to get there considering flight schools are expensive but I hope you give me some tips on how to be successful on my road to becoming a pilot. Thank you :D
Hey Petter, I'm a big fan of you and your channel. Cool to see where it all started. My original career aspiration was to become an airline pilot. I got part way through my PPL training way back in 1989, including about 15 hours of soloing (unforgettable!), but ended up giving up on the dream due to the high cost of training, and the poor job prospects at the time. I often wonder where I'd be now if I had pushed on. Anyway, now I live the dream through your "absolutely fantastic" channel, and through MS Flight Simulator, currently learning the PMDG Boeing 737-800.
Honestly any job has pros and cons, the crucial thing to be happy is loving what you do, personally being an airline pilot is perfect for me and despite tough times like the ones we are living it’s a dream worth fighting for
I am here to comment because of... your challenge :) And... this is the earlier content provided in here?... Anyways, time goes... flying :) I think that the time itself may be a pilot :))
Thank you for all your amazing videos. You've made me realise that even at 33 it might not be to late to start my journey towards my dream! Keep up the good content man :) thanks from Wales!
This looks like your first vlog! I've never seen it before you suggested to take a look back. You've certainly improved your delivery and graphics since you started, but I think that even your recent changes have added to what you present. Thank you for everything you have been doing! BTW I'm just an aviation enthusiast who occasionally gets to be a passenger. I wish I could travel more and hope to be on your plane one day.
i love your videos really, is helping me to decide if I still want to become a pilot, because I am a family person and I want to have kids, I want to be there in every important step in their lives.
Heey! Im a 16 year old swedish boy (spelling is not my strong part of english so please excuse if you see some bad writing) and i litterly just noticed your channel amd this being the first video I've seen from you. And I've allways been strugeling whith the part of working as a pilot and still have time whith family, and everywhere i went it seemed like no one had any good answer. I love aviation and would love working as a pilot but have been a little bit worried about the inpact that would have on my future family life. This video was really well done and set up nicely it answered alot of questions alot of young pilots in my groups and social groups seeme to have. So really thankyou for a well thought out really ment to help nice video. As you can see writing isn't my greatest part of life but I still hope I got my message across
Always wanted to be a Train Driver, Ships Captain, Never Materialised....But, I Did become a Rolls Royce Technician on the Trent 1000....sky's the limit......I love my job because… I love using the skills I’ve learnt to help build jet engines that are truly world class. My work and my inspections help ensure the safety of our airline crew and passengers, and it’s a privilege to be able to work on the most advanced jet engines in the world. Not Boeing.
hahhhhahaa , i am your new fans from China, Captain. I learned a lot from your channel, i like the way you running the video, just like friend chatting. hope to meet you in the near future. wish you have a fantastic day!
7:09 "I dreamt [...] about sipping *non-alcoholic* drinks around the pool". LOL :-) This happens when you are so well trained: your dreams are well trained too. :-)
Thank you very much for taking the time to make these informative videos. I have recommended you to my son whom is currently doing his A320 TR at CTC. He will hopeful soon be joining you in the skies flying for a well known budget carrier. Keep up the good work!
So the answer to the biggest con as an airline pilot is just work for a regional so you can be home every night. There is a regional called widereøe in my country and it pays well.
first of all I would like to congratulate you for this fantastic channel. By the way you tell your story and the airline you are at, I hope you to be my TRI one day. I'm at that stage of feeling lost about my future as an airline pilot. now waiting for all my certificate and licenses to be prepared to begin to apply. Thanks for your videos, they are so useful
This video is so relaxed and enjoyable to watch, unlike your modern videos which -- while ultra informative -- feel like you're following a template as if it's a QRH checklist. > Ask semi-interesting aviation question > Play intro sequence with music that reminds everyone of, but is not, Haddaway - What Is Love > Tell everyone you hope they're doing absolutely fabulous (they're not) > Answer the question > Promote the app > Ignore what the puppy is doing > More Haddaway music
Thank you; this was so helpful! I have never thought about being a pilot seriously until two days ago, but had thought about it in the back of my mind since I was a child- this was helpful information. (especially at a time when I must decide my future)
Kära nån vad du såg annorlunda ut med glasögon 🤓! Så, nu har jag kommenterat på din äldsta video 🙂 tack för snart sju år av videor av allt högre kvalitet 👍🏻🥳
Another guy in the comment section also had a question of what you make. Now I know that it varies from company to company, what you fly/size of it but still knowing a REAL number is very reassuring compared to just some number online. I do understand that this is very personal question and you could just pop out a figure of around what you make to alleviate any awkwardness. Thx.
This is a great video! I'm currently considering a career change into aviation and as a mother of 9 month old, I have a lot to weigh up before I make any decisions. Your video is quite inspiring, especially the advantage of having plenty of time off to spend with your family and being able to do a job you love. I would love to know if you know any mummy pilots and how they find juggling life in the sky vs life as a mum??
Hi, I am a 16 year old aspiring to be an airline pilot in the near future. Can you explain what your route and journey was towards becoming an airline pilot?
Hi , can you please do a video on pilot's health, fitness and eyesight requirements and spectacles , there is alot of myths in aviation regarding about this , thanks in advance
Hello :) I have a few questions on the career path of becoming a pilot: 1. Would you consider becoming a pilot the best 1st career path? Is it worth it to become an engineer then go into piloting school. 2. If I were to become a pilot, will i get employed right away? 3. Is there a way to be relocated after being assigned to a base far away from your home? 4. Being a pilot, how beneficial is the retirement plan and what is the generated retirement age? 5. What is you're opinion on other flight airlines to work for such as Air Canada, Qatar Airways, Emirates, American airlines? a6. How long did it take you to pay off all your training debts? My name is Shais and I live in Canada, im in my last year of high school and I'm seriously considering becoming a pilot because I've always had this career path in the back of my mind since I was 5. As i grew older I began to find interest in medicine, but the chances of me getting into med school is 4% due to government caps. I have considered mechanical engineering because it is a broad degree that can be applied anywhere in the world. And so my last question is: Is it worth to become a pilot first, or should I complete my mechanical engineering degree first then go into piloting school?
Matthew Woodard get your private, commercial, instrument then your able to try once you get enough hours.. but you will be flying small aircraft to start.
Thanks, it sounds so true, i just transited from domestic flying to long haul last month. it doesnt seem easy at all for my family. pay wise and job wise is very good, just looking for a way to get a balance between work and family.
Hi Mentour. I've just discovered your channel and it's absolutely great - you articulate things in a clear and concise way that's also really interesting. I'd love to see a video on how the profession differs for men and women, for example maternity leave, height restrictions (if any) for female pilots and any challenges females in the aviation world face that men don't (and vice versa). Great work, Mentour!
Mentour Pilot Thanks for your response - it's something I'd love to see as I'm a female looking a career in aviation. I know it'll vary by airline but any knowledge or expertise is appreciated. Keep up the great work - you've got a new subscriber!
I think that this was very well explained, this information is invaluable. As an aspiring pilot, this is very motivating and exciting to me. Greetings from Calgary, AB Canada. Thanks Captain!
Excellent video I just came across your channel whilst having a quick break from my ATPL theory studying and found it very motivating. I've now subscribed and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more videos. I'm studying the flight planning subject of my ATPL at the moment, so I would be grateful if you could do a video on what FP the flight crew actually do before a flight and where that is done. I've heard stories of pilots doing minimal flight planning and leaving it all to the operations officers but I've also spoke to crew who do some of the FP at home before even setting off for the crew room.
Absolutley amazing video thanks! I'm beginning my career and it's goo dto know what to expect. I have no family life yet. In time things will change I appreciate the video and your perspective! I'll be watching many more of your videos Thank YOu!
+kevin obrien thank you you for the reply :) Mentour Pilot.. And Kevin I'm sure it'll be very easy to get a job. If you live in America I know it's really easy. Airlines are really hurting for pilots, and can expect an interview the next day after you apply. That's what heard the CFI's were saying.
I used to fly 17 days straight sometimes 15 days if I'm luck with 3 days off (because it's the law). 12-14 hours duty with 8.5 hours of flying, with 3-4 legs per day. $25,200/yr plus diems.
I would really love to be a pilot.. I'm currently 15 and I have done quite a bit of research about it. The one question that I have however is about the ATPL licence and university. Firstly, do you need to go to university? And secondly, how would you obtain an ATPL licence.. Do you need flying experience etc?
Hi, I would suggest you read this book called "to be an airline pilot" by Andrew cook. It explains every step of the process to the right hand seat. I also recommend you find a couple of schools you found a check the courses they have available and there you will find requirements (uni degree varies between schools and airlines). Some schools I found: FTEJerez, CTC and CAE. Happy Flights!!
Elvin Tyagi first of all you need to keep a secret and not have any morals for you will be chemspraying the population. THERE SPRAYING BUT WHAT AND WHY?SCUMBAGS IF IT'S HARMLESS WHY THE BIG SECRET ?!

I scrolled all the way back, too. It is amazing to see how much the channel has developed since this.
You can filter it to show the oldest video
Just gonna pop back in at the 2 million subscriber mark to enjoy the old original days of the amazing blessing to aviation that is this channel.
You’ve made the perfect choice by making this video. I thank you for teaching me and many others about not only aviation but other things like life, physics, and much more. Again, I thank you for taking the initiative to start the Mentour Pilot channel.

I'm so glad for your mention of a partner who deals with everything while you're absent. I hope you continue to enjoy your life at home and at work.
Challenge accepted Petter! Oldest video available on your channel!
Don't get married or have kids and enjoy the pilot's life to the fullest, got it!
Were thinking d same.
NO! I want to have kids and be a husband
Lonely as fuck is what you will have. Once you get to 25 or so.
being a pilot, especially long distance flight pilot, u feel extremely isolated regardless u have many chicks or not
K or it could be stressful with the family, and happy and joyful alone, all depends on your preferencs
May the Lord increase your days on earth
I ADORE how you are real and talk about things that's actually matter!
Great! Good luck my friend!
How did it go?🙂
So this is where it all started 🤩

Can you put a hula girl on the dashboard in the cockpit?
+Clifford Zellner yes
Yeah just tape it down
+Bailey Davis or don't
Hang some furry dice from the seatbelts light switch
Apparently those are sexist and racist now. Ha not my words 😂

This was great! Highly recommend it for aspiring commercial pilots :).

Thanks captain
10th anniversary of this is coming up in 4 months
This is a great video! I'm currently considering a career change into aviation and as a mother of 9 month old, I have a lot to weigh up before I make any decisions.
Your video is quite inspiring, especially the advantage of having plenty of time off to spend with your family and being able to do a job you love.
I would love to know if you know any mummy pilots and how they find juggling life in the sky vs life as a mum??
Hi, I am a 16 year old aspiring to be an airline pilot in the near future. Can you explain what your route and journey was towards becoming an airline pilot?
I am 16 as well I have done a bit of research and I feel a pilot school called CTC Wings might be the way to go
+Sidd Motorsport yep ctc and cae oxford, both very good. I start with ctc soon!
I have just finished my application for CTC Wings. Let's hope it all goes well
Sidd Motorsport one tip is book a medical early, im waiting on my medical to start, haha!
Sidd Motorsport how did it go? :D

I think that this was very well explained, this information is invaluable.
As an aspiring pilot, this is very motivating and exciting to me.
Greetings from Calgary, AB Canada.
Thanks Captain!
+Mentour Pilot I shall do!
Thank you so much for this video! I am planning to become a pilot, so this video suited me like a glove.
How’s the journey going so far if ya don’t mind my asking..?
Honestly a pilots life sounds too busy for me but I feel like each landing I pull off would be like an achievement.
Great Video and explanation Captain .
If I become a pilot, will I have extra time to take up a bussiness as a second job?
Excellent video I just came across your channel whilst having a quick break from my ATPL theory studying and found it very motivating. I've now subscribed and I'll be sure to keep an eye out for more videos.
I'm studying the flight planning subject of my ATPL at the moment, so I would be grateful if you could do a video on what FP the flight crew actually do before a flight and where that is done. I've heard stories of pilots doing minimal flight planning and leaving it all to the operations officers but I've also spoke to crew who do some of the FP at home before even setting off for the crew room.
Oldest video I could find
Yep me too!
u explain so well !
Comment. You can just sort from oldest to newest on a channel by the way..

Hi Petter, here's a comment for ya!
Absolutley amazing video thanks! I'm beginning my career and it's goo dto know what to expect. I have no family life yet. In time things will change I appreciate the video and your perspective! I'll be watching many more of your videos Thank YOu!
Looks so much younger from the different hair and the glasses
Superb Explanation 👌👌👌👌
Can't wait to fly commercial. I'm in Los Angeles working on my instrument rating :)
I'm 50 hours into my comercial license, I'm really worried about how hard it'll be getting my first job.
Very informative and glad you made such a great video too. Take care now.
Really helpful video! Thank you so much!!
Great channel
Please post videos about how to become a airline pilot and all the best
Only a few hours left from getting my private pilots license, about 10 hours left
I used to fly 17 days straight sometimes 15 days if I'm luck with 3 days off (because it's the law). 12-14 hours duty with 8.5 hours of flying, with 3-4 legs per day. $25,200/yr plus diems.
really enjoyed the video, thank you
Thanks for the video.
