    i was watching a different interview where stephen foster was mentioned and how Neil had listed him as an influence or inspiration.
    this interview actually gives it another dimension.
    Foster had to sell the rights to his music and ultimately died with very little to show for his talent.
    and if you know even a little bit about the industry and record companies you'll know there have been scores of people who went the same path (Badfinger is but one example from the 70's)
    and if you know even one thing about Neil it's how wasn't afraid to square up to those guys in the industry. He proved it could be done.
    i don't know what it's like these days. seems a little bit blown to hell with the introduction of social media and platforms like youtube. you no longer need a label to represent you. Plenty of very talented musicians are being heard and they are gaining multitudes of fans and support without prostituting themselves to a record label.
    it's almost like BUSKING..... only it's not just limited to a street corner. Capitalism at its finest.... if the fans like you they will support you. that's all that matters.
