Because of the "Wow" factor and because of the whole marketing propaganda that's going on for ages. It applies to everything, when they release a newer product their first priority is to convince you it's worth it and a million times better than what you already have. It's not that people don't realize they don't need it but advertising it over and over and over implants the idea in your head that you want it, people talking about it a lot makes you think that certain thing is super interesting and exciting and you must have it hence they will increase the price because they know people will even apply for bank loans to buy certain stuff that they don't need in reality. If you think about it, that's how the world worked since the beginning of times.

Hello Linus, I found a cool Windows feature you could talk about: Hibernation. It's interesting how Windows uses volatile memory (RAM) and normal memory to find a sort of middle point between the sleep mode and a complete system shutdown. It actually transfers the content of the RAM to the system memory and keeps it temporarily to use 0 energy while booting your computer faster at a restart. Will you talk about this cool feature?
Here’s the real reason why: Because android and apples make updates to make smartphones slower and they will buy a new brand phone to get business and more money
@@mrmaniac3 That still won't stop the car from aging, the best advice would just be to buy new parts every couple years. By that point however you might as well buy a new car.
you know I've been thinking about watercooling and I had an idea. What if you mixed an aio with a blower heatsink so instead of it justcooling the water in the radiator it also cooled the cpu using a blower tooso you have constant cooling on both ends of the AIO
@Ray actually it does I've had to do it with my phone at least once to clear any unnecessary data and free up internal storage again. However doing this means data that is not on an SD MEMORY CARD gets lost altogether.
Apparently /e/ is really good too. It is designed with privacy in mind so it has no Google services so that might be a deal breaker to some. Also it is made by the creator of Mandrake Linux so it is in good hands.
To be fair, after the battery/throttling debacle, Apple did for once try to focus on performance of older devices with iOS 12; indeed the page onscreen at 1:25 lists that as the top headline feature, which somewhat counters the voiceover around that point... not suggesting they’ve totally reformed and that the gist of the video is in any way wrong.
Lets not forget that they put cheap QLC SSDs in them with not enoiugh over-provisioning for worn out memory cells. Those constant excessive app updates & running in the background wear down QLC SSDs fast, so you're regularly loosing more usable memory. Without plenty of useful functioning memory left on the SSD, it slows down. They don't really want your devices to last more than 2 years, but do want to build them good enough to hold up until the warranty runs out.
At first I was really struggling watching his videos without subtitles, but after watching him for a half of a year I feel like I don't need subtitles anymore..

Pleasantly surprised to see XDA Developers getting a plug. It's managed to extend the useful lifespan of many of me and my friend's devices over the years.
This really makes sense. My phone has the same specs as my brothers but it's older.
2:42 I was waiting for the boom.
Getting a new battery for my iPhone SE was the best idea ever. Long love the SE!
4:29 - Slowing older iOS down on purpose to lure customers into buying newer ones. Reminds me of an old Conspiracy Keanu meme.
5:04 Why thank you for the thorough explanation of what Fortnite is. I totally didn't know about it after the entirety of youtube has been spammed by clickbaiters and obnoxious content creators for that game.
And this is why your phone gets slow. Fornite appears

I got OnePlus 3T since release, never did a factory reset on it, and it's still fast even with a lot of apps and porn filling up the memory...
Same here. I have a Hydro Vibe and it still is mostly fine.
OnePlus 3 user here, I installed a custom Pie ROM (didn't like the direction Oxygen is was heading) and its performance is better than it was when I first got it.
i still have my 3t and its been 2 years. Currently on pixel experience and its still fast af
I assume that the memory wasn't the only thing ' *F I L L E D U P* '.
My OnePlus One also runs perfectly fine. I mean sure, it takes maybe half a second to open some apps, but that's not exactly "slow"...

This can’t be everything I’ve reseted my (old) phone (Samsung galaxy A3 2016) 10 times in a row and erased everything (didn’t load the backup and even waited a few days after reinstalling), I have no SIM card and no third party app installed and the phone is slow and laggy as hell anyway
And I don’t think the battery is that bad either
Ferdinand S What version of Android is it running? If it’s running a relatively new version of Android it is probably slow because it’s a mid-tier phone with a pretty slow SoC
It’s on 7
But yeah the soc really isn’t that great but it once felt like 4 times faster
Same, reset my Lenovo yoga 2 and it is still very slow! Planned obsolescence is everywhere in the industry.

Are these Tiny Bubbles? Are they Bubbles in my beer? Is Bubbles a clown? I have all these questions and references for Bubbles but I know why my phone gets slower. LUL!

am i the only one that never really had this problem but still upgrade my phone 2-3 years later anyways lol..maybe cos i always buy a Galaxy S :P
only problem i tend to have with older phone is the battery life going down the pan..
I agree! The most overlooked phone power draining activities are app updates and background apps.
They promice gigabite but dont subtract the space taken by uninstallable Apps
Hello Linus, I found a cool Windows feature you could talk about: Hibernation. It's interesting how Windows uses volatile memory (RAM) and normal memory to find a sort of middle point between the sleep mode and a complete system shutdown. It actually transfers the content of the RAM to the system memory and keeps it temporarily to use 0 energy while booting your computer faster at a restart. Will you talk about this cool feature?
Half of My phone storage is covered with "Other" :(
5:10 NO!
I’ve had my iPad for 3.5 years and it’s exactly the same
Can you please make a quick video explaining phone cache and when you should/shouldn't clear app cache?
Here’s the real reason why:
Because android and apples make updates to make smartphones slower and they will buy a new brand phone to get business and more money
Just turn off auto updates :)
Jokes on you, I didn't even got an add.
Cars actually also lose horses over time :o
Change your oil, use the right gas, and just basically maintain your car
@@mrmaniac3 That still won't stop the car from aging, the best advice would just be to buy new parts every couple years. By that point however you might as well buy a new car.
My Galaxy S II still works and it's really slow, I use it as a donkey phone.
you know I've been thinking about watercooling and I had an idea. What if you mixed an aio with a blower heatsink so instead of it justcooling the water in the radiator it also cooled the cpu using a blower tooso you have constant cooling on both ends of the AIO
Nice idea.
Manufacturers don't want their smartphones to last longer. They want the customers to keep on upgrading. But they don't admit it.
I need to move my data onto my PC, I think I'm planning on doing a factory reset

no just setup a windows share and drop your files there daily
@Ray actually it does I've had to do it with my phone at least once to clear any unnecessary data and free up internal storage again. However doing this means data that is not on an SD MEMORY CARD gets lost altogether.
Lineage OS has my 5 year old Nexus 6 still running fast. Im Glad you showed that. Android has options to keep them fast
Apparently /e/ is really good too. It is designed with privacy in mind so it has no Google services so that might be a deal breaker to some. Also it is made by the creator of Mandrake Linux so it is in good hands.
Can your cellular services be transferred to the new OS?

Shame On Developer

RRW Yup, my 2 year old iphone 7 plus is still fast.
I imagine most people's phones slow down because they have a sh** ton of random apps they never touch that just run.
I keep my phone as minimal as I can to function the way I need (with literally 4 small games).
