  • Solomonster reacts to complaints that Drew McIntyre cashing in his Money in the Bank contract for a loss thanks to CM Punk was a WASTE of the briefcase. He explains why it was NOT a waste of the briefcase and, in fact, meant a hell of a lot more than many other failed cash-ins.

    • @Mozartkugel
      @Mozartkugel 18 дней назад +14

      Absolutely.
      It’s the same guys that were complaining why Priest didn’t cash in earlier when it already became clear to the not-so-narrow-minded that he was planning on cashing in at Mania, involving Rollins who did the same thing back in the day.
      Having Punk and Drew involved, too, was just a happy accident since it was originally only the plan to have Rollins face Punk which fell flat due to him getting injured at the RR.
      Not having the briefcase around for the next 12 months will actually be refreshing,

We've seen the MITB be wasted on screwjobs countless times-hell, we just saw it two years ago with Theory-and it's served to devalue the concept every single time. Jey Uso and LA Knight could've done infinitely more with the briefcase and told better stories, and it actually would've helped their careers. Wrestling fans are the first to say they want something different and when we get it we're the first to complain. Drew's failed cash in accomplished several things:
    - prolonged the Drew/Punk angle
    - Gives Priest a successful defense where nobody looks weak
    - Includes Seth in the angle which not only gives him something to do away from the title but brings him back into his Punk rivalry
    - Indirectly helps Tiffany Stratton's storyline as hers is the only MITB angle coming out of the ppv

      @naheemquttlebaum2267. But WWE have treated the MITB like a joke for the last 8 years now, how is this different to Otis winning MITB and then giving it to Miz?, Theory cashing in on the US title, Lesnar putting himself in a match he wasn’t even in, Corbin was a bust, Strowman was a bust.
      How is this fucking different?.
      We want the MITB taken seriously again to push new stars into the main event permanently, like Edge as the perfect example.
      The MITB should be given to someone just on the cusp of being a main eventer, LA Knight was the perfect guy for that.
      You have LA Knight win the MITB and him do the babyface thing of him facing Cody at SummerSlam, for then Orton to turn heel and costing Cody the match for LA Knight to win.
      So you get an Orton and Cody feud that doesn’t need the title, and LA Knight can fight the heel bloodline guys.

    I thought Seth vs. Priest was a very good match (outside of that botch where Priest just didn’t kick out because someone in production missed their cue), and IMO it only got better after Drew cashed in and Punk beat the fuck out of him to screw him out of the title for the fourth time. The MITB was not wasted because it was used to add even more heat to an already super heated rivalry between Drew and Punk, AND it also helped work Seth back into the feud between them beautifully. Besides, most of the people complaining about the failed cash-in are the same people who would’ve complained if someone like Jey Uso won the briefcase instead.

    -Gunther could win the WWE Title over Damian Priest, resulting in Damian Priest vs Finn Balor at Survival Series

Now Rollins can't get another championship match until Priest loses (I know, one whole month lulz). And it also added fuel to the Judgement Day story since Priest has been trying to tell them he doesn't need their help to win, but he once again had outside interference helping him win because of the cash in.

LA's arguement can be made but then the best you can do with LA Knight is him putting his Briefcase against Logan's US Title at Summerslam (Like RVD Vs S. Benjamin from Backlash 2006) but then what? Where do you go afterwards with Knight as the US Champ and MITB holder?
    Do another Cash in at Wrestlemania when the plans can be Punk Vs Rollins for WHC or Gunther Vs Brock and now Cena's involvement considering his retirement tour. No one practically had any chance of winning at all this so Drew winning was the right call to further enhance Punk Vs McIntyre.

    I could actually picture a scenario where Jey Uso won MITB... and after Solo loses to Cody, Solo pressures Jey to surrender the briefcase to the Bloodline, to get the Universal title back in the family. Jey says he will do that himself, but Solo insists that is the role for the Tribal Chief, and since none of the family is backing Jey, he can't be Tribal Chief. Jey points out that Solo already lost to Cody, so the family should be backing someone who hasn't... and he looks at Jacob. Solo says the Bloodline already has their defined roles: the Tongas will get tag team gold, Solo will be Universal champ, and Jacob will take any title he wants because he'll be Mr. MITB. It's only a question of if Jey will give him the briefcase, or if Jacob will take it by force. And Jey actually hands over the briefcase, but he stares down Jacob first, and promises that if Jacob doesn't do his uncles proud, Jey will be the first one in line to take whatever title Jacob wins away from him.
    You may be thinking it's way too soon for Jacob to have gold in WWE, and you're right, Solo would take the briefcase and use it for himself.

      Completely agree, especially when 9 times out of 10 everyone, heel or babyface, cashes it in the exact same way. When Edge did it back at the end of 2005 it worked perfectly because it fit his character and it was the first ever cash in. Every other person since then does the cheap cash in after someone has already wrestled a grueling match and just wins (usually) with little to no struggle. When a heel does it it's just a cheap knock off of what Edge did for cheap heat, but it's even worse when a babyface does it because it makes them look like a chicken shit heel as opposed to a valiant hero. MITB truly is outdated.

    If you objectively look at it, yes, MITB was wasted this year. What happened with Drew this year is proof that Triple H isn’t the genius everyone praises him for being. The booking for McIntyre was so convoluted and unnecessarily when there was a much simpler way to book it. Punk should’ve screwed Drew in the actual ladder match itself because it would have accomplished the same thing without sacrificing the briefcase. When the ending of the MITB ladder match happened, Drew climbed to the top alone, and it seemed like he was going to win then that would’ve been the perfect spot to insert Punk. All he had to do was push the ladder over and someone else could’ve profited from Punk’s interference. Imagine the visual of Punk pushing the ladder over and him trapping Drew underneath it so he was forced to watch someone grab the briefcase. That’s a straightforward move and there’s no convoluted steps involved. Also, WWE continues their streak of making Drew look extremely dumb by having him say he’d cash in the same night. The whole purpose of winning the case is to shock the audience when the winner cashes it in. Every time Drew has a big match with stakes, he comes up short each and every time. No one profits from what happened so that’s how you know that MITB was wasted.

    • @Jeff_Pryce
      @Jeff_Pryce 17 дней назад +1

      And then what? 😂
      Nobody would benefit this year because they are not taking the title off of Cody or Gunther when he wins at SummerSlam. So whoever would win would’ve essentially turn into the next Austin Theory. And nobody in that field deserved that. Jey and LA knight don’t need it; Knight has Logan Paul and the U.S. title at SummerSlam, so he’s already got gold in his sights.
      Andrade isn’t over enough for the case.
      Melo needs a lot more time to get ready. He will get there, but he needs some feuds, crowd momentum and midcard titles under his belt first.
      Chad also doesn’t need it. He’s got the Wyatt Sicks and a new Alpha Academy coming, and he will probably get the IC title before the end of the year.
      So objectively, the briefcase wasn’t wasted because it pushed a Major storyline and none of the talent in the match were hurt by the decision. They will all continue their upward trajectory.
