Deer Hunting with Suppressor

- This was my first deer hunt using a suppressor. I'd gotten interested in them a few years ago and did a ton of research. Then I finally bit the bullet and bought/submitted an application (pre e-forms). Around a year layer, it showed up. The reduction in sound and recoil makes even this 30-06 fun to shoot at the range as opposed to a chore to check off the list before the opener. It doesn't make the gun Hollywood quiet unless you have subsonic ammo, and these 150gr TTSX are going north of 2900fps. But I no longer need to worry about my ears ringing and accelerated hearing damage. I didn't find it hard to tote through the woods, but extra carry length is a factor. You could screw on once on stand, especially with a QD mount. This gun is an old Savage Axis I've made a ton of modifications to. The suppressor is a @SilencerCentral Banish 30 Gold and optic is a @VortexNation Razor HD LHT 3-15x42. I could honestly get by with a Crossfire 1-4x24 or similar for a lot of the shots I get, but this is sort of a "one gun for everything" type of setup. @TethrdNation @spartanforgeai

This is a short clip taken from one of my recent hunt videos. If you want to see the full footage, including the main camera, it's all on the full length video plus a buck that comes in after this doe. Tough to tell on the 360 footage, but the shot took out the top of the heart, and the deer crashed in sight right at the end.
Left hand rifle gotta love it
I started hunting with a supressor this year. Recoil AND sound reduction. Got some 400 gr subsonic 44 mag from IQmunitions and have about a 4" drop at 100yds (hardly ever shoot any further than that). Its my new deer gun, whisper quiet which is helpful since I'm hunting in a populated area with hunters stacked up.
You can buy a suppressor right off the shelf in other countries. They aren’t considered different from any other firearm accessory
Yea I've heard the same. Wish they were more easily accessible here.
Yea they say it RUDE to shoot without one in some cases of hunting …. Who new🤷🏽♂️
Aye I live in Ireland and basically everyone will have one on their rifle. In some areas they are great as you can do plinking all day and not annoy anyone with noise. Obviously for hunting it’s got great advantages also. The one on my .22lr cost £30 brand new.
@@beeboop1726that’s cool! You made me curious about firearm laws in Ireland, unfortunately you too see a good deal of trampling over the right to bear arms as well
@@SilverbackSasquatch19xx yes we do not have a constitution like America or any right to bear arms. Firearms in this country are for hunting, sporting and vermin purposes only. If you shot a home intruder with a legally owned firearm you’d end up in jail.
Firearm manufacturers that offer plenty of great options for southpaws get attention AND money. Lol
Excellent filming and shot placement. Your material and presentation is amazing. What type supressor are you using? What recoil reduction if any, in foot lbs felt...did it decrease? Thanks
The suppressor is a Banish 30 Gold. Recoil reduction is there but I don't have a great way to quantify it. I will say that the way that 30-06 is configured in the video, with the suppressor, laminated stock with 1" butt pad, maybe weighing 10-11lb, is very mild to shoot, even at the range. You still get pushed off target a bit at high magnification, but it's more of a push rather than a jab.
@DIYSportsman Understood. Thanks for the details. I wonder how the Banish would handle a sub 6lb rifle. Lots of pros and cons. Your engineering mindset is what keeps me as a subscriber. Blessings to you and your wife
nice!
Sounded like a 22 😂
Exactly
Yep, pretty nice with no hearing protection 👍
That's bad ass
what is?
I need to get one...
Was it js me or was the footage kinda blurry and cut at parts
There is a link to the full length video with the primary camera footage.
Un color muy discreto, propio para caza😅
What model of firearm is that?
Savage Axis in 30-06
What rifle is that in a left handed bolt?
It's a Savage Axis
Suppressor not needed, you a good marksman. Just hit the mark k all good
Mostly just about long term hearing protection and more enjoyment at the range.
Polyester is so damn loud.
Peep the Boyd’s stock lol
🦌 💭 this human grabbing stick 🪵
Suppressor he'll, I'm looking at the scope on your gun
Down and some good eating
Dude wait for a big buck
Love the look of the rifle, what is it?
It's a Savage Axis in 30-06 but it has an aftermarket Boyd's At-One stock
@@DIYSportsman thanks, looks like ill have another project soon
What is the perk of hunting with a suppressor?
Helps protect hearing since often in the woods you won't be in a position to add hearing protection before the shot. The suppressor drops the level to where it's not as acutely harmful to your long term hearing. They also lower recoil but usually you don't notice recoil on a hunt anyways so it's just a side benefit.
It protect hearing and helps reduce the spooking of game at a distance that other may be hunting. 5-600 yards away it wont really spook another animal. Like a normal gunshot would.
Protects the landowner from hearing you shooting on HIS posted property!
Why?
If you don’t bag you should probably just quit hunting, like shooting sparrows with a 22 using a 3-9 bushnell scope??!
Don't bag? What does that even mean lol
@@DIYSportsman you can’t be that ignorant, ok it means you get your deer !!! Lol !!
Except that the videos clearly showed both deer going down in sight so... not sure what you're actually getting at
@@DIYSportsman I’m very simply saying it’s no big deal too take your deer with a scoped high powered rifle, but maybe hauling it back is , no doubt!!
That's a lot of scope for 50 yd shot
I've considered dropping down to a 1-4x or 1-6x. I got the 3-15 originally knowing it'd be more than sufficient for anything I'd want to do out west but not super over-magnified in the timber at 3x. But most of my whitetail shots end up being in bow range anyway because of the terrain.
3 thousand dollar gun
300$ cameraman 😂
Lol. Well, technically the gun was $300 too but man those accessories really stack up quick. I've considered stripping this gun back down to the original stock and a 1-4x scope for this type of close range hunting.
The camera man had 1 job...
Did you watch the full length video showing the views from the other camera?
barrel looks bent at first glance!!
that's not the gun you're looking at sicko
360 camera ultra wide angle lenses have some distortion
is that a 17?
17? I'm not sure I follow.
@@DIYSportsmanis the gun a 17?
@@DIYSportsmanhe means 17HMR, which it obviously is not
I think he would have known what it meant had it been asked properly.
@@TheWakes120022 i asked like i would ask anybody… i couldn’t tell it looked very familiar to the one my buddy just got.
I’ve seen many videos of people hunting with silenced/suppressed firearms. Unfortunately 95% of those videos were in other countries.
Or country should consider this. A bill almost made it onto the house floor, but then that very questionable slaughter occurred in Vegas, so supporters of the bill pulled it out, they knew it wouldn’t come close to passing after that shooting. Strange how things like that happens the day before the “safe hearing act”was to be voted on.
Actually only 9 states don't allow hunting with suppressors 😂 do you not know the laws in the US?
I think he's referring to the extra fees and application wait times that put them more out of reach for many people in the US, versus other countries where they're more commonplace and off-the-shelf
@DIYSportsman maybe thank god it's not here as it would only be abused. I'm betting those other countries don't have crime rates as we do either
Omg you miss the shot deer run away 😂😂
He didn’t miss he hit it in the top if the heart it ran 45yards and died
Loud
Supersonic
what, do you think that the suppressor would make it so quiet it would sound like the videogames lol
@@aidchristensen2000 No daddy, I didn't! It is pointless to use as it was loud as fuck...especially in a dead quiet woods with supersonic ammo":) Stupid
It's not so much about making the shot silent for me, it's more about keeping the max dB at a more reasonable level for hearing protection. And it's much more enjoyable at the range
It muffles the sound of the explosion from the powder charge being ignited and propelling the bullet. The bullet still breaks the sound barrier resulting in a sonic boom. Thats what you hear. But it does make my .308 sound almost the same as a .22LR. Big difference on the ears
This is the worst shot I have ever seen ...
Top of the heart is a bad shot? That's an odd opinion lol 🤣
Game wardens not gunna like that
Why not. Its legal in most states. I have been checked by many warden’s with my suppressor mounted. They likes my setup and after confirming I had proper license and tag told me to have a great hunt.
Legal in a lot of states.
Guess im old fashion but i believe a suppressor shouldnt be in the hunting woods
What caliber is that rifle bro?
