    • @danielmaggs1048
      @danielmaggs1048 4 года назад +6

      ShadowArtist reminds me of the ppl who voted down SOR3 because of its music and localization issues when the core gameplay was absolutely awesome - faster, more raw and intense than SOR2

    • @Syklonus
      @Syklonus 4 года назад +2

      @@danielmaggs1048 I disagree. I thought SoR 3 was a half arsed game that felt more like a fan mod rather than a true sequel. It looked and sounded really grubby and rough, and for me it felt like it was just the second game but with a few added extras which didn't make much difference.

    • @NotaPizzaGRL
      @NotaPizzaGRL 4 года назад +2

      @@Syklonus Should've played the Japanese version. I don't know why Sega of America kept insisting making games harder than they needed to be. Same thing happened with Dynamite Headdy and Contra: Hard Corps and it hurt those games over here. They were hard enough as it is.

      @@rockdesu Simple. DYKG's much lower production (not a bad thing mind you) compared to Splash Wave allows them to churn out more content in less time, and uploading said content consistently and quickly gains subs just as fast.
      But man do I admire the amount of work SW puts into all their graphic assets! Someone had to spend grueling hours 3d modeling those Sega consoles and set pieces just to give us 20 minutes of video game history, yet the channel gets a fraction of subscribers and views.

    Another stellar Splash Wave! It's so easy to fall into the trap so many other gaming retrospective channels do, endlessly retelling stories about games without going into detail and getting lost in their own echo chamber. When I watch Splash Wave, though, I actually LEARN new and interesting things about the games, programmers and musicians whose influence molded young, impressionable me's worldview as much as my own family did. These deep-dives are spellbinding, and when they're over I wonder how and why it's taken so long for such amazing stories to be brought into the light. The editing and effects work on display here is awesome, too!
    Keep it up, and it won't be long before this channel blows up!

  • @Asterra2
    @Asterra2 5 лет назад +3

    The production value. I don't even have to look at the comments. I _know_ people are talking about it.
    Two suggestions for future content:
    1: Consider simulating a CRT look for your game footage. The solid-pixel default look of emulated footage is fine when talking about games within the context of modern day experiences, but when the subject is strictly a history lesson, viewers like me are likely to prefer historical authenticity, even if it's strictly simulated.
    2: 60fps. Maybe you think 30fps gives the video a higher production look, since it's close to cinema's 24fps, but it really wreaks havoc on video game footage. A better framerate always carries the bonus of making a video look slicker, even if viewers aren't necessarily able to pinpoint why. Just look at Kurzgesagt. They know.

    I left you a comment on SOR2 a year ago and I'm gonna say it again. Your content just BLOWs AWAY other videos here to shame. You go far and beyond. The presentation, your research you have put all into this is simply amazing. If I had my own TV station network I would hire you in a heart beat. You deserve more than 58K

    Awesome video on a madly interesting subject. As a SEGA Genesis fan, those are the kinds of videos I really love, but sadly most of youtube is Nintendo fans doing countless of the same videos about Nintendo. So this is not only highly polished content, but refreshing.

    These two games had a HUGE impact on my life and my musical writing style when writing for games, absolutely amazing, especially Shinobi. Yuzo is a genius.

    The more I've gone back and played it over the years, the more convinced I've become that Shinobi III is the best Shinobi game in the series. I used to be partial to Revenge of Shinobi but in retrospect I think its successor is the better of the two. At any rate they are both all-time classics.

      I think the level design and Boss attack patterns are more advanced in Revenge of Shinobi, but Shinobi III is overall a smoother, faster and more exciting game to play.

    Excellent work! Another interesting note: Yuzo Koshiro's Streets of Rage title theme was heavily influenced by rapper Ice MC 1990 song named "Easy".

    Amazing video! Have my subscription :) I couldn't count how many times I played ROS and SOR on my megadrive... I used to plug in my earphones to the front jack and listen to BMG for both titles and draw for hours! Finally completed ROS after years of struggling with the final boss - so satisfying....

    Great video as always. I especially liked learning about Shinobi III, my favourite action platformer. I had no idea how drastic changes it went through, but it definitely paid off.

    Thank you for diving deep into the musical aspects of these games. Shinobi and streets of rage were both favorites of mine at a young age, I'd go on to discover and enjoy music like aphex twin a few years later... Now wondering if these games paved the way. Awesome vid

    Normally, when I give a video in my subscription feed a chance even though I don't feel very interested in it based on the subject matter, I always end up being right and losing a subscription. This was not one of those times - and I genuinely feel like it was your A+ editing that made me stay engaged the whole way through. It's so exciting to see channels like yours chilling out outside of the limelight that are on this level of quality - it re-invigorates my passion for video content creation knowing you don't need 100K+ subscribers to make something better than people with millions do!
    Regardless, I hope to see you there. You and Ahoy are on the top-tier of game documentation in my heart!
