This was filmed minutes after they and the rest of the Jewish world found out about the meron tragedy. The decision was made to continue filming and there was def. And more somber note and the performers were thrown off their groove. This would explain why the performance was "off" in the beginning.
Yeah they have to almost force themselves to sing. It’s not authentic. But, this live event was almost cancelled as to this tragedy in Israel that happened then.
Oh, that makes so much sense. I can’t imagine performing in those conditions

I wish I could say "I can't imagine", but I think all of us who remember that time, actually could imagine what it must have been like to have to perform that night. That night (and the next who knows how long) will forever be etched in my mind.
Also, something I'm thinking, is that for them it might have been even harder than the average Jew since they're from Israel and just "happened" to not be there at that time.

This comes to show that we shouldn’t judge off the bat. It was a live event that was streamed. Live event was almost canceled due to Meron stampede tradgety that happened in Israel at that time. Literally that time. So, they probably weren’t in any gusto to sing or feel it and be so authentic.
This performance took place in NY right as a terrible tragedy took the lives of 50 ppl back home (for the performers) in Israel. The mood was quite sad and the singers clearly weren't really feeling like performing.
They both live in Israel, but have different audiences generally. Motty is chasidic although he does have many fans of all types. It is a very interesting duet because they have very different singing styles and music styles

I hope viewers of this video look at the comments so they see the reason for this performance not being their best. It was an extremely extremely sad time for all of us Jews. And quite terrifying as well, since most of the victims of the tragedy were not even known yet at the time of this performance, and the next victim could literally be anyone you know. (And even just knowing that there were so many victims, even if you end up not knowing any of them, because the Jewish nation is so close knit and family-like, it was terribly sad and scary no matter who the next victim would be.)

And yes this event was a charity event for the Jewish volunteer ambulance force, Hatzola, (ha - "zz" as in pizza - uh - luh) which is in every major Orthodox area. They're amazing and have an extremely fast reponse time, but they need funding, so this event was made to help a lot with that
Hatzolah is an unbelievable volunteer medical emergency organization that began in New York and now has branches in orthodox communities around the world.
The service is completely free, so they have fundraiser events such as this, and the community reciprocates by donating.

3) I agree, not the best performance from either one of them

Their original recording of this song together is much much better
The reason there’s the lyrics behind them is cuz the song is in Hebrew not our first language so people can sometimes misunderstand the words of the song

People do know the lyrics generally. They put it in the background just as a design element.
It's a soulful song not really a sad one. It's telling god how much we want to be close to him.
Motty ("Mu +Tee" short for Mordechai) is a Chassidic vocalist with an angelic voice. Ishay (Ee + shy) is more of a religious pop singer. The lyrics are actually from Jewish prayers. It is sung often at the Shabbat table and is a really moving melody (Nigen). Nafshi "My Soul"
Really appreciate the break down for the pronunciation of the names. I'm sure it's rough hearing me butcher them over and over 😂

One thing I notice here as well is the accent/dialect difference. Ishay is singing using the Sephardic Dialect pronunciation (What I call "Makhber") while Motty is singing using the Ashkenazic Dialect pronunciation (What I call "HaLevi")
Which I find funny because Halevi was Sephardic and the Rabbi who wrote Makhberet was Ashkenazic.

This was a live stream charity online event. It took place in middle of covid, so no live audience. This isn't the best of both of those singers. Interesting match. Thanks for your videos, keep them coming.
This is avery rare combo to see, two singer from very veryyy different ends of well.. everything. Different genres, different crowds, very very far away as far as musical history, the only connection is that they are both religious and its a big part of their brand, but its very likely they didnt know each other before this duet.
It seems like its an event of donations for hazala(not sure about the spelling)
Which is a worldwide organization of volunteers, the volunteers are 99% ultra Orthodox, and they are allways coming to rescue and give aid and medical or other life saving services, all for free.
In israel the entire secular/other religious communities (not ultra Orthodox) have become familiar with the volunteers because the allways show up for any terror attack or other disasters. They never make any distinction between helping a member of their community, helping secular jew, or non jew, they simply come and save lives. And they are very good at it.
And in a way this duet is a very good parallel to this meeting point, those two different comminities allmost never meet each other, but yet they meet each other every day.
Passing by, polite, while their cultural world is so different, so this is weird, they tried, but, its too far apart :)
They probably chose to make it thinking some magic will happen on stage, and maybe it could have happen if they planned it better, motty is very far from ishai's world, isjai is more centered in a way.
They could have brought so many other hassidic singers who are less "extreme" in their musical style. Motty is unique, he is full on hasidic, even his outfits. All of what motty is as an artist - is completely foreign to ishai and his crowd, and frankly, its foreign even to parts of the ultra Orthodox folks. I will search for better duets like this which didn't end up so badly. I will link it if ill find :)

And i just saw in the comments that this was during the stampede at miron, which explains alot, they seem out of it. Makes sense. It was a horrible disaster... A very long and confusing one. 😢

Nafshi means my soul. Not a sad song, it is serious, about God. This is both of their song and they sound very very nice in the real recorded version

I agree the performance was sloppy. Both are great artists and have performed together numerous times. This particular performance came on the heels of an awful event in Israel where a popular annual holiday celebration became massively overcrowded resulting in the crushing deaths of about 30 people, I could see them getting thrown by the tragedy.
The choir on here is the same choir that played on the backing track of the video you reacted to of mine. the Zemiros Choir. I sent you a clip to try of those guys.

Yes agree. He is a ballad type singer and he is unreal. Popular amongst religious and secular Jews. Neither one is singing their best at all. But the circumstances explain it

6:35 - These 2 singers represent 2 different worlds. Ishay Ribo is more Israeli while Motty Steinmitz is more Hasidic. Both are "Israeli", but some elements of Hasidic culture are different. People like Motty may even resemble the Hasidic Jews found in Buenos Aires and Montreal despite all 3 places being far from each other and having a different culture around them.

The collab here is really an out of the box idea. Their voices definitely aren't complimenting each other naturally. And that was the art of the collaboration.

Hey thee reason ishay ain't so good here Is couse, there was a terrible Jewish tragedy that happened in israel right before they got on stage (this video) in the USA where 45 people got killed after stumbling upon each other trying to exit, how emotional it was for everyone it was even more emotional for ishay considering the artist that he is.

I figured, but I've heard both these singers before, and their live performances have been amazing. I'd much rather listen to Live versions of these videos, over recorded/produced videos....BUT I can see how the original could have been better. All in all, wasn't terrible
@@PortuguesePai Events like these never sound amazing. I've watched a bunch of these livestreamed concerts and they cannot even compare to how regular concerts sound.
So they 100% would've sounded better at an actual concert.
@@PortuguesePai you're right. But as @cool things pointed out, this one is different, because it's straight from a live stream (fundraising event). Not so by the other live videos you covered, they went through thorough editing and mixing.

You are getting mixed messaging about the pronunciation of Motty’s name because there are multiple pronunciations.
There is variation in pronunciation of Hebrew across communities.
In some communities (including Motty’s) the name Motty (a nickname for Mordechai) is pronounced “Mooty” - but the ‘oo’ is short, as in “look” or “good” not long as in “roof”. In others it is pronounced “Motty” with a short “o”.
Motty lives in Israel, he's very popular there.

4:09 - Nafshi is from the root-word "Nefesh". And it means soul. "Nafshi" might mean "my soul".
P.S. The Arabic translation of the root-word is the same.

Listen to the original studio track. It sounds much better. They do sound a little off here. There's something nice about how there voices are so different but surprisingly they do sound nice together. I think this was just a bad recording.
