Solid list. Missing Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, or Samurai Pizza Cats as its known in the west. Has heaps of unique playable characters with their own special abilities and it’s a blast to play.
Thanks for this video! I don't know how I overlooked Joy Mech Fight. An extremely underrated title in my opinion is Lutter for the Disk System peripheral. It's Lode Runner meets Hydlide!
Recently got a lot of 25 famicom games off eBay. Only 12 were playable due to language barriers. Thanks for this list. Gave me some options to hunt for.
I can't recommend Joy Mech Fight any more than I can LoZ, Mario, etc. It's up there with the best games on the system. It still amazes me how nice and smooth the game runs with no slow-down or anything! Great game for sure.
A couple people have mentioned Moon Crystal, which I also would recommend. Yume Penguin Monogatari, Getsufuumaden, and Mitusme ga Tooru are also really good. I've never played Adventure Island IV, Holy Diver, Joy Mecha Fight, or Crisis Force, but I own and have finished the rest of the games on your list, and they're all really fun.
This is a nice series you should continue. And on the note of videos games for certain systems, I think you should have Top 10s of games of old school gen consoles such as Sega Genesis, NES, Atari, Commodore 64, Nintendo 64, Gameboy...A series like this has some real potential. Even if you can only come up with a Top 5 then that's cool too.
+jbzhummerh2gamer I was going to continue this series depending on the feedback. So far I can say I will at lest do one more from what I have seen so far. If viewers still continue to enjoy them I will try my best to keep them coming.
Great list, man! There were definitely a few games in there I haven't heard of that I am going to be trying. My favorite unreleased Famicom game is Cocoron. It's weird, but I love it. And Konami Wai Wai World is another weird fun one.
+Game Sack Dave Hopefully you will get to review the ones you have not tried yet in a future episode now that you guys are back in full force. Thanks for the comment!
I really liked Game Sack, I want more of y all even if you have to cover way less obscure stuff, I'd still like you two's take on more pedestrian fare...
KWKBOX Reminded me of Super Aleste for some reason. I don't have a way of playing Famicom games at the moment but will seek it out regardless. On a semi related note, I wish Nintendo would make their Virtual Console region free so it'd be easier to play some of these games.
Great list. For someone who wants the actual physical cartridge this list is tough, some of these games go for hundreds of dollars. With the exception of goonies
joy mech fight is awesome. plays surprisingly well for a early fighting game. holy diver is awesome but is also vary difficult but really love the idea of making a dio song into a game. have you ever played moon crystal? i found it to be a pretty enjoyable famicom game myself. great video
+BioPhoenix Moon Crystal is a very good game. I just could not squeeze it in this list though. Next time I do a top 10 I plan on doing a montage of honorable mentions at the end. Thanks for watching!
Some true gems, here. Crisis Force is nothing short of amazing, and Jetman is pretty neat too. Super Sentai games end up being often overlooked, but it's a sub genre that can hold some surprises (i.e., Hurricanger on the original PlayStation). :)
+Galdelico Crisis force is truly a masterpiece. I just wish it did not have so much slow down in 2 player mode. The Sentai game was a really good time and I will look out for others in the future.
With only a few exceptions, most coming late in the console's life, Nintendo didn't really allow other companies to throw their own custom chips into cartridges for the US market since Nintendo manufactured all official US cartridges. In Japan many of the big arcade developers got preferential treatment by Nintendo and were allowed to manufacture their own cartridges for the Famicom, a practice that ended for the Super Famicom and famously upset Namco's founder Masaya Nakamura. This is why Konami games like Castlevania III and Salamander had their VRC chips stripped for their US releases. Konami may not have wanted to compromise Gradius 2 in the same way and it was probably the right choice because the game really wouldn't have been the same.
115 million results haha, wow. It seems like everyone is getting into importing for the Famicom lately, and I think I missed the boat. I used to have Kid Dracula when I was younger, and I sure do regret trading that game in. I'm familiar with a few of the games listed, but the ones I wasn't look pretty cool too! Great list!
+The Game Grinder I tried to find some of the more lesser known titles but I was sure some would be familiar to a lot of fellow import gamers. Thanks for watching!
Hey Kevin, awesome list dood. A lot of these titles also have killer soundtracks. Know any cool Famicom Disk System games? Thanks for putting this video together.
Great top 10 Kevin. I think the game I'm interested in the most is Kid Dracula. It's looks like a mix of the first Castlevania, and Tiny Toon Adventures on the NES. Although it didn't get ported to the NES here in North America, we at least got a Game Boy version. I hope to get that game soon and see if it's faithful to the Famicom version.
+Billymc Thanks Billy! I think besides some censorship the Gameboy version is pretty faithful to Kid Dracula on the famicom. Let me know what you think when you get it!
I just recently discovered and purchased kid Dracula. It’s super fun. Only issue is the lvl 5(?) boss that’s a quiz show game. You need a translator for that part.
do you know what game that have Three playable character ( twetty, Bunny, and the Dog ) miss it, was play it in japanese vers and don't know the title LOL
Summer Carnival is too hard for me ( I've beat r type final and phalanx and more, still, this is harder then gradius 3) But the music is amazing, the effects and lack of flicker is mind blowing, it's a real standout technically speaking, and it plays well too . Gunnac is like a f 'ing 3-4 in difficulty (?) Then this is a 9
I never understood why the original Goonies wasn't sold here. The name recognition alone would've made it profitable. Adventure Island 4 looks like it might be a fun game, especially since it has that "Wonder Boy" feel to it like you mentioned.
Haha I understand. I am not good at shooters but I have to admit I really still enjoyed those games a lot. It's ironic because I enjoy platform games the most and still picked shooters because I still felt they are that good.
Tbh, I'd have made it a longer list, better yet Top ten part 2! Sweet home (ROM hacks...) Mr gimmick (European nes) Real Ghostbusters 2 Mother (ROM hack ) Rc pro am 2 (euro/Scandinavia ) Uh. The other pre power Rangers famigame, the uh , one with the really big sprites... Samurai pizza cats (or not) Well, I can't think of any off the top of my head more that I'd actually want to see (Devil world isn't that good, transformers isn't that good. ASTRO robo Sosa , wellllllll mayyyyybe - but that's what I watch these for, so make another : )
It's a good list, but you missed the TOP FIVE (IMO, of course): Sweet Home, Captain Tsubasa 2, Megami Tensei 2, Kunio Kun no Nekketsu Soccer League and Mother
Those are all great also but as I mentioned in the video all my games listed require no translation and are easy to pickup and play as is. Not all of your suggestions fit that bill.
Haha I agree about Holy Diver if the difficulty was not so high I would have given it a higher spot on the list. If you like this video you should check out the others and let me know what you think.
I will! I (just a suggestion) like an "extended" version of Famicom games to play. Including the ones that need a translation to be played, like sweet home (don't know the real name). I Will try splatterhouse Tomorrow.
I love this NES/Famicom/Retron game, but I can't remember the name. A player collect a fighting stick can transform into eagle, sword can transform into tiger, and two player can transform into a dragon, if anyone know the name of the game I would really appreciate it.
What game names are similar to "Recca"? I searched for the game. I forgot the name of the game but I remember how to play it, similar to Recca but not Recca
Really enjoyed this video - very well thought out and put together - I'll definitely sub to your channel and check out some other stuff. Btw - what do you use for your video capture - i really like the scan line look of it :)
I really appreciate the comment. I wish I had more time to do these but they take longer than my other videos. My next top 10 will be Sega based most likely. I capture all my footage with an El Gato and a Framemeister scaler to add the scanline effect. Not many channels do it that way so I do it to give it a more authentic look and to stand out a bit.
Nice list, but I would have swapped 2 games (1 for an obvious reason the another one is because I think what you listed here kinda sucks) what you mentioned in this Top 10. Kid Dracula to my recollection has a level which is a quiz show, which absolutely requires knowing japanese (hence you mentioned you won't show games here that needs a language patch to play on console). The Goonies is an OK game, but there are so much better earlier games for that matter. I would have rather picked Moon Crystal, which is a Prince of Persia inspired platformer game.
You really know your import library my friend. I have to admit Moon Crystal was not on my radar when I made this video. As for Kid Dracula I never beat the game and did not get to the point you described so it seemed translation was unneeded. Thank you for the comment.
Good point about the quiz boss in kid Dracula. I actually watched a video on the game before I purchased it. Little did I know the video was a translated rom. I was quite surprised when I got to the quiz level and needed a translator
My opinion on the list: 10. Never thought much of the series, but i am gonna tackle many franchises as i can and space shooters are one of them, so i'll be tackling this series soon but not now. 9. Funny i like both Mega Man and Fighting Games! I can see why this game was never released, westerners would point out about its plot. 8. I've only seen the Goonies once as a kid, never saw it again because it used to scare me i was little, the dead body, the skeletons and that one guy that was dropped on his head many times as a kid that made him look ugly, i am aware of the game though, one of the fiew games on nintendo based on a film that is good, well it's konami so that is self explanitory. 7. A very hard shooter huh? Challenge accepted! 6. *SCREAMS INTERNALLY WHILE HAVING FLASHBACKS OF FAILED ATTEMPTS OF THE FIRST ADVENTURE ISLAND LONGPLAY RUN FROM EARLY YEARS* 5. Lol, i've been meaning to try it out when i saw the game in an episode of game center CX, maybe it'll be part of my future Castlevania marathon. 4. Damn i keep forgetting how old Super Sentai is compared to Power Rangers, i wouldn't be suprised if there were earlier games than the one you listed. 3. Challenging action platformer huh? That has is super hard with enemies that have random patterns? CHALLENGE umm....CONSIDERED! 2. LOL Chibi Splatterhouse, which reminds me i still need to beat the new Splatterhouse game i got for hte XBOX 360..... 1. That's one epic shooter! Well then looks like i got a lot to cover, i only focused so much on the very hard famicon games the guy from Game Center CX plays (one of them being Atlantis no Nazo) but then i have to remember there are good games that never got released......time for me to see what us westerners have been missing out on.
Ah Kid Dracula....I have that one for my Famicom and it plays pretty much like Castlevania mixed with Mega Man. (Megavania?) Now...If only I can get my defective copy of Famicom Castlevania III to work on it.
I'd have replied to you on DP where you posted this but yesterday the admin decided to flip out, close off free speech, banned a person or two(?) not even for rule breaking, locked the door for sign ups, and has threatened to remove the ability to post imagery because it bugs him. Seems a few regulars already quit and there's only a dozen or two of those at most. You do have a solid list. On that list I own or have owned almost all, played everyone of them though but the power rangers game. Easier to point out what I don't agree with versus what I do. Joy Mecha Fight really isn't that good, unique being a fighter and from Nintendo but not great. I'm happy I own the konami and namco games from that list currently. I think that Mitsume ga Tooru (3 Eyed Warrior) really deserved to be on that list, surprised it was left out. While maybe not a top10, it's in the 15-20 top list -- Armadillo, it's like SMB3+Sonic mechanics in one very fun.
+Tanooki Suit Wow had not clue the admin on DP flipped his lid. Thanks for the heads up. I really liked Joy Mech fight and I do not know if it is because I am a big original mega man fan but I had to make sure it was on the list. You mentioned some very worthy games that I considered but since I could only pick 10 it gets very cumbersome to choose and those just did not stick with me. I might do an honorable mention montage at the end of my top 10s in the future to cover some other great games that did not make the list. Thanks for watching!
I think that one was also released in Scandanavia and was not solely left in Japan. Regardless it is a great game though, especillaly with the enhanced sound.
Thank you sir.
Lutter is a good one but I did not count FDS games in this list strictly carts.
I agree Joy Mech Fight is better than a lot of other 16 bit fighting games I have played also.
the pieces of music are nostalgic.
An honorable mentions section really was needed with this list.
Crisis Force is a must and the rest you have not tried you will not be disappointed.
Hey, that was really enjoyable! I knew of most of these games, but still cool to watch a compiled video of them together :D
The list will not have too many surprises for seasoned veterans of importing but quite the eye opener for the less informed. Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, they were some good picks!! like I said, it was still a fun video 👍
This is a nice series you should continue. And on the note of videos games for certain systems, I think you should have Top 10s of games of old school gen consoles such as Sega Genesis, NES, Atari, Commodore 64, Nintendo 64, Gameboy...A series like this has some real potential. KWKBOX Well to help you out with that, as I was watching this video I had posted it on my Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, & Google+. Hopefully it helps.
***** I appreciate it. Thanks a lot!
You're welcome
Great list of games! Recca is insane and never could pass the 2 stage. My favorite on the list is Gradius II. Great video.
Die Hard Gamer Bros. I must agree recca is intense and gradius 2 is solid but crisis force is just gravy.
Great list, man! There were definitely a few games in there I haven't heard of that I am going to be trying.
My favorite unreleased Famicom game is Cocoron. It's weird, but I love it. And Konami Wai Wai World is another weird fun one.
+Walter Hunt Cocoron is a fun game also. I really should of had an honorable mention at the end but the next video I will be sure to. Thanks!
I agree with this list. I've enjoyed most of those games and there are a few I haven't tried but would like to.
At least the Chojin Sentai Jetman series isn't staying in Japan. We Americans get a DVD set in less than two months.
It's about time we got something. Now where is all the manga?
Great list, RECCA and Kid Dracula are amazing and I'd never heard of the game you put at #1 but it looks great.
Yea #1 was Crisis Force and I recommend playing at soon as you get a chance. It is very fun and addicting even if you do not like shooter games.
KWKBOX Reminded me of Super Aleste for some reason. I don't have a way of playing Famicom games at the moment but will seek it out regardless. On a semi related note, I wish Nintendo would make their Virtual Console region free so it'd be easier to play some of these games.
davidevoid I agree region free is the way to go.
Great list. For someone who wants the actual physical cartridge this list is tough, some of these games go for hundreds of dollars. With the exception of goonies
Yeah unfortunately this video is pretty old and the game prices have jumped quite a bit since then.
KWKBOX unfortunately that’s the state of retro gaming nowadays. Can’t wait for the market to come back down!
joy mech fight is awesome. plays surprisingly well for a early fighting game. holy diver is awesome but is also vary difficult but really love the idea of making a dio song into a game. have you ever played moon crystal? i found it to be a pretty enjoyable famicom game myself. great video
+BioPhoenix Moon Crystal is a very good game. I just could not squeeze it in this list though. Next time I do a top 10 I plan on doing a montage of honorable mentions at the end. Thanks for watching!
its all good we cant mention everything into a video but yeah it has that ninja gaiden cutscenes style and no problem man
Thank you for making this list.
Some true gems, here. Crisis Force is nothing short of amazing, and Jetman is pretty neat too. Super Sentai games end up being often overlooked, but it's a sub genre that can hold some surprises (i.e., Hurricanger on the original PlayStation). :)

Hey great idea for a list! I have a Everdrive N8 for NES so good to know the famicom games I can jump right into!
+MaximumRD This list took some time and research. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Me, too. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive, and can't wait to try this out with the NES Advantage.
I wonder if Crisis Force will work? I hope so.
Realy liked this top ten review of retro gaming thank you for sharing
I am glad you enjoyed it. If you like this list check out the other top 10s. Thanks.
What is the first song in the video? I've heard it somewhere before. I love it.
NES Ducktales Moon Theme. Very nostalgic for many including myself.
Getting my famicom tomorrow and just bought the adapter to play on the NTSC aka Toaster NES. Thanks for the list to add 😁
My pleasure. None of these will disappoint. Happy importing!
Seriously, does anyone know how to get kid dracula to run on nes classic without installing retroarch?
Not to my knowledge. There are a few other games that don't work without additional stuff that just drives me crazy also.
Right on, good stuff!
Thanks for the video :)
No problem!
Hey Kevin, awesome list dood. A lot of these titles also have killer soundtracks. Know any cool Famicom Disk System games? Thanks for putting this video together.
I am actually working on a similar list featuring the FDS for the future. Thanks for the comment!
Great! Looking forward to it!
Bugs Bunny crazy castle?
These look fun but sadly they are mostly all so expensive now... That recca was like 1000$ alone
These have significantly jumped since this video. Luckily there are alternative methods to play them
@@KWKBOX i prefure the origianl carts. Luckily a bunch of games are still reasonable. I got twinbee and king kong 2 for under 10$ cad each shipped
Wow! Great list. Holy diver and Crisis Force are my favorites!
Thanks keep on the lookout for more lists to come.
cool video mate there is a few in there i haven't played i will check them out.
Thanks be sure to let me know what you think when you do.
Summer Carnival is too hard for me ( I've beat r type final and phalanx and more, still, this is harder then gradius 3)
But the music is amazing, the effects and lack of flicker is mind blowing, it's a real standout technically speaking, and it plays well too . Gunnac is like a f 'ing 3-4 in difficulty (?) Then this is a 9
Max Welsh haha I agree recca is a game I will probably never beat but still appreciate and enjoy.
AWESOME VIDEO! can you please write the names of the games shown in the description tho
Done and Done. Thank you sir.
thanks bro! im gonna go downlo......i mean buy all these right now to try them out. I subbed
I never understood why the original Goonies wasn't sold here. The name recognition alone would've made it profitable.
Adventure Island 4 looks like it might be a fun game, especially since it has that "Wonder Boy" feel to it like you mentioned.
+TortureVision I agree with the Goonies and I actually prefer the original over the convoluted sequel we got on the NES.
Crisis Force is now one of my favorite famicom games!
Thanks for the info. The Famicom rocks! I'll have to get a few of these to review on my chanel
Thank you sir. You will not be disappointed with any of these titles.
I would have added Moon Crystal and Cocoron
Those were in the running and would definitely been in the honorable mentions if I did that. What would you have put in their place of?
Recca and crisis force but I'm insanely biased against shooters because I don't like the genre(yes I suck at them).
Haha I understand. I am not good at shooters but I have to admit I really still enjoyed those games a lot. It's ironic because I enjoy platform games the most and still picked shooters because I still felt they are that good.
Tbh, I'd have made it a longer list, better yet
Top ten part 2!
Sweet home (ROM hacks...)
Mr gimmick (European nes)
Real Ghostbusters 2
Mother (ROM hack )
Rc pro am 2 (euro/Scandinavia )
Uh. The other pre power Rangers famigame, the uh , one with the really big sprites...
Samurai pizza cats (or not)
Well, I can't think of any off the top of my head more that I'd actually want to see (Devil world isn't that good, transformers isn't that good. ASTRO robo Sosa , wellllllll mayyyyybe - but that's what I watch these for, so make another
: )
Great idea for a list sir!
+Matt and Jaelon Thanks buddy! Hope you and your family are doing well.
oh wow..I remember Recca..i did a playthrough of it two years ago..and yeah you were right...it is hard as nails to get through
+ryufrombreathoffire It is one of the most punishing shooters I have played that I actually want to keep coming back to.
KWKBOX indeed...it is punishing
It's a good list, but you missed the TOP FIVE (IMO, of course):
Sweet Home, Captain Tsubasa 2, Megami Tensei 2, Kunio Kun no Nekketsu Soccer League and Mother
Those are all great also but as I mentioned in the video all my games listed require no translation and are easy to pickup and play as is. Not all of your suggestions fit that bill.
I need to try Recca one of these days. Looks right up my alley.
+Gameplay and Talk I would enjoy that video considering I know you will get much farther than I did.
Do you find Getsu fuma den (Konami samurai game)a game that can't ve picked yo and played as well?
I was on the fence with that game it could go either way but if I did an honorable mention it would have definitely been on that list.
KWKBOX love the game, awesome gameplay, and Miller soundtrack. Killer video by the way. Holy Diver is almost impossible and frustrating as hell.
I have a similar idea for a future video to do some day. Enjoy splatterhouse that one is much easier than holy diver. Thanks for the suggestion!
I love this NES/Famicom/Retron game, but I can't remember the name. A player collect a fighting stick can transform into eagle, sword can transform into tiger, and two player can transform into a dragon, if anyone know the name of the game I would really appreciate it.
It sounds like Ninja Crusaders to me.
Oh wow, thank you so much KWKBOX. I have been looking for this game for so long :).
I'm so lucky to have crisis force :D, getting my famicom fixed atm
You really are. I love that game. What happened to your famicom?
I didn't find yet. This game use japanese font. A frog or amphibians or reptile. Every boss give questions or choice games
awesome list man
+DEE davE Thanks it was quite the feat to compile!
Very good list... this becomes my buying list.
You will not be disappointed with these purchases. Thanks for the comment!
PLAYING FAMICOM GOODSET, MEGADRIVE,SNES, PC-ENGINE,ARCADE ON MY MiNI NES, HOPE YOU GUYS CAN FIND ONE ALSO.
Still have not found one unfortunately...
And how about Mitsume ga Tooru and Captain Tsubasa Vol. 2? This is awesome Famicom games!
That would definitely have been an honorable mention if I had them.
KWKBOX this games were very popular in Russia.
Hi. i'm brazilian, i like nes games, and seach underground games for nes or famicom....good vídeo
Very cool. I appreciate the input!
KWKBOX what game is the opening music from?
I would like to try these games for myself.
You will not be disappointed.
Well, I don't have a Famicom or special newish game systems that use Famicom cartridges.
Luckily emulation is easily available in this day and age.
A lot of these games remind me of Super Mario & Sonic the Hedgehog.
+jbzhummerh2gamer It is always a good sign to be reminded of the classics.
My opinion on the list:
10. Never thought much of the series, but i am gonna tackle many franchises as i can and space shooters are one of them, so i'll be tackling this series soon but not now.
9. Funny i like both Mega Man and Fighting Games! I can see why this game was never released, westerners would point out about its plot.

6. *SCREAMS INTERNALLY WHILE HAVING FLASHBACKS OF FAILED ATTEMPTS OF THE FIRST ADVENTURE ISLAND LONGPLAY RUN FROM EARLY YEARS*
+pikminguy55 I look forward to how your challenges treat you with Recca and Holy Diver. Good luck.
Ah Kid Dracula....I have that one for my Famicom and it plays pretty much like Castlevania mixed with Mega Man. (Megavania?)
Now...If only I can get my defective copy of Famicom Castlevania III to work on it.
Castlevania III on the Famicom is so much better. Wish I had it.
I really REALLY want to play my copy! Wonder if it just needs a good cleaning
nice and sweet list
Thank you sir!
Nice video
Thank you sir!
what about door door for famicon
If I did an honorable mentions it would have made the cut.
Door Door's great.
cool show
Thank you sir.
Recca? I barely knowwa!!!!
hinotori i think you miss hahahh
Excelent
Thanks!
Gimmick!!
I think that one was also released in Scandanavia and was not solely left in Japan. Regardless it is a great game though, especillaly with the enhanced sound.
