I had a Japanese Chin named Chin-Chin. She was more then a dog or a pet to me. She was truly my soul mate. She never left my side.. Always listened when I talked even if I wasn't talking to her. I had three other dogs at the time. She loved them but I was always her main focus. From across the room she would look at me with a room full of company. If there was an empty chair in the diningroom. She was sitting there. She was very sicial and very smart. Her little pink tongue always stuck out just a tiny bit. One day I took her to the Dr. and they found she had stage 6 heart disease and they gave her 1 to 2 months to live. I did everything I could to save with meds and diets and hand feeding her. I didn't leave her side unless i had too. She was never left alone. She kept holding on first 1 year.. then 2 years ... The Dr. said my care and our love for each other was keeping her alive. After 3 and a half years one night she screamed. I put her in the car with tears running down her face she stopped breathing. She went into cardiac arrest. I turned around and went home. I will never forget her. Her urn sits on my night table. The cardiologist said this is common in these dogs. I'm really scared to get another one. Has anyone else experienced this with this breed? It's hearbreaking cuz they are so sweet. In the end Chin-Chin did live almost a full life. She couldn't have been loved more💓😇😢
I'm reading your story and my heart is breaking. We have a black and white Japanese chin named Yoshi, he is going to be 12 on Nov 10.Weve had him since he was 12 weeks I've noticed in the last couple of months he's really slowing down. Winter is coming and where I live it can get to -35+ and the snow 3 to 4 feet. He does like the snow but not a fan below -10. I know Yoshi is our last baby but by far ,is the healthiest furbaby and the oldest . My husband always says with the dogs that we've had over the 35 years . He says to Yoshi , your sure the most interesting one. I still think these dogs are not good for young children. Take care
I've lost my chin a week ago from cardiac arrest, he would be 15 in 3 months, he was diagnosed a year ago. The doctors told me it's common not only with this breed but with small dogs in general. He was the best dog, i miss him so much
My grandparents had one when my mom was in her teens. While she never owned one herself, she still has a very special relationship to the breed. Did yours ever bark? It's one of the stories she likes to tell, that the dog just couldn't bark, even when he wanted.
Except when they are puppies, in my experience so far. But they also tend to tire themselves out running around etc. Then you get a break. But no barking also.
I have been breeding Chins around 20 years now... and have owned them since 1994... They do not get separation anxiety.... They wait till their owners come home.. Then they eat and all is well...
Any tricks to housebreaking one. I have an 8 month old that was doing pretty good for a while , but now goes on the living room carpet after being outside for hours. The dog is getting close to going bye bye.
Yes, once in a big while it happens. I have babysat chins for people and over many, many years, I did have one that missed his Mommy so badly he became sick... but most of the time if all their needs are met, they do very well. Especially, if you go to work and come back home every day and have a routine, a chin will be just fine being alone at home for long periods of time.@@ary8182
i had an adorable chin mix. she died a few months ago. i always binge watch videos like this when i miss her. she was super lazy and spoiled. wasnt very fond of going on walks, when she knew she was almost home she would walk very fast 😂. She normally walked at a slow speed but if u start running or hyping her up she can run incredibly fast. i miss that lil snot. one of my favorite traits would be she would always insist on sleeping at the foot of the bed but once it was mornin i would find her cuddling up to my face 😂 she also used to sit at the side of my bed and watch me sleep then bark, wait and see if i wake up, then bark again, and she would continue to do this until i woke up. when i open my eyes she would immediately jump on my bed and sit on my face 😂😂😂
I am on my 3rd and 4th chins. My first two were red and white and I got both of them from Luv-a-chin Rescue. They were beyond every wonderful comment you've read here. I took my girls all over the country and they rode along in a puppy stroller. They did their chin spins, all the time, and at about 7:00, they would do their zoomies all over the yard and through the house. They were 9 months apart in age, and at 13, they each died of congestive heart failure, 9 months apart. It tears you apart. They are so loving, smart , cuddly and yes, cat like. They love to climb and get as high as possible. They even like to sit on the swings at the park, and take a ride. I now have two more chins, Mika and Murphy. Murphy is just now 2 and Mika is 18 months. Murf is a brindle (3 colors) and Mika is red and white. I got Mika from Chinny Chin Chin in Salem, Oregon. Bobbie, the owner does a magnificent job of breeding her chins and produces quality babies. Mika's dad has 16 championships. I waited a year and a half for Mika but it was well worth it. I got Murphy from Texas. My babies are about as wonderful as you can get in a puppy. As much as i loved Tia and MeiMei, i wanted a complete lap puppy and this time around, my babies gave that to me. They are sitting/laying beside each other and dozing while they each claim 1/2 of my recliner, to be top puppy. You can never have too many chins. AND yes, they do rule the homefront. I get comments from people, anywhere I go, wanting to know about them, wanting to love on them, and being thrilled with their demeanor and personalities. They are gorgeous and their shedding is hair, not fur. They are very easy to care for and seldom get matts. I have a mobile groomer that gives them baths and trims their feet every 4 weeks. My kids have never been clipped. I love their long, silky hair and it takes a couple of years to grow their hair out, so why would you cut it off? They're a pricey breed but i wouldn't choose any other breed again. I loved my cocker spaniels, but the Japanese Chins are so regal , loving and beautiful.
I have bred this breed for 20 years, and had them many years before I have bred them. The only fault they have is they shed.... otherwise they are a perfect toy breed...
what's their energy level, as a puppy ? Are they chewers or destructive? I'm looking for a calm laid back lap dog, I have a nice big yard if the dig desires a little exercise
A puppy should not be left alone for long periods of time, otherwise they can start to chew on your furniture. They do outgrow this. One needs to have time to form a bond with your puppy. A Chin needs routine, needs to know what is expected of them and need to feel safe as all dogs. A Chin needs little exercise. Big back yard is great for them to do their zoomies. But, also enjoy a short walk if they are used to it. Mainly, they do a lot of napping. For grooming they are easy, but do get tend to get burrs behind their ears.
My grandma's japanese chin has always very calm and peaceful. It only howls when it hears a firetruck or sirens in general, other than that she is very quiet and very cuddly
I grew up with both cats and dogs, although I have always preferred cats. Until I met someone with a Japanese Chin. Sweet. Surprisingly fast. This is the only dog that I would ever get.
Have one too. The first. I tell everybody that this little 5 pounder is as fast and jumps like a jungle cat. LOL . Funny watching it go after birds. She doesn't know she will never catch one.
My chin is adorable, but she runs the show and she does bark at times - mostly to get your attention. She also is adorably funny when she taps me on the arm with her paw, just like a human would tap you with a finger!! Incredibly smart, incredibly adorable, and the chin spin is so entertaining. We call it the zoomies!! LOL Love our girl.

Best dog ever! Love my Chin.
What’s crazy is most people have never heard of these dogs and have no idea that these are the “best little” dogs in the world!
our family should have gotten one; they are beautiful; we wound up instead with a french bulldog
A Cat-like Dog? What more can you ask for?? 😁
I couldn’t agree more ❤
We just lost our Japanese Chin a few weeks ago. She was a beautiful dog and truly missed. Love both the Japanese Chin and Pekingese breeds.
Im so sorry for your loss dont worry, you will see it again in Heaven.
they're so sweet, quiet, and calm. perfect apartment dog. mine has almost never barked but she can whine when she wants to come inside.
Same! Has probably barked 3 times ever!

That's perfect! I'm interested with Pekingese too
I don't know about the calm part.. Our puppy probably have enough energy to solve any energy problem in the world
I've had 6. Still have 3! Best dog breed ever!!!
I have been breeding Chins around 20 years now... and have owned them since 1994... They do not get separation anxiety.... They wait till their owners come home.. Then they eat and all is well...
Really because mine has a really bad separation anxiety from my mom she left to west palm and he was sitting in self pity the whole time
@@ary8182 Well just maybe the chin is neglected... chins are companion dogs... and cannot be left alone the whole day.

I love when they tilt their heads. It’s almost as if they’re saying, “Nani?”
