    Fun video, I haven't seen anyone else cover the spec op side of KT. I do disagree on Duelist though. You said combat is usually over in two hits, which is true, but that is why it's such a good ability. Attacking something weak with 3 dice like a guardsmen, Duelist is likely to drop them to a single hit, and you can parry them out before finishing them to avoid the chip damage.
    When defending against an attacker, in general they will need minimum 3 hits to secure a kill, otherwise the attacker hits once and you parry the second hit. Duelist tips the scales so that even a 4 attack space marine has a good chance of getting bogged down if they only land 2 hits.
    Finally, and you might already plan to say this in part 2, Duelist stacks with other abilities that provide negative modifiers like the cult Sickening Aura, Gellerpox Rust Emanations, or Talons Creeping Dread. Even the scariest melee operatives will have trouble at -2 per swing.
    Anyway, love the channel, and it's been amusing to notice the things you guys you guys say during games creeping into the way people talk playing kill team locally.

      Thanks! It's awesome to hear that we made a little wave in your scene.
      And yeah I can definitely see you avoiding some chip against weaker melee. Still though for defence indomitable is faaar too cracked on gellerpox if I wanted to make a meta choice. And it works against shooting + melee And that would force me out of the combat specialism
      Ruling 2 fnp rules is ridiculous

    I think you are severely underrating Medbay, especially for teams with more models. Battle scars can be pretty nasty, and any chance to avoid them is worth it imo, especially on horde teams. They both lose more models, which mean they roll more casualty tests, and Battle Scars are worse for them. A Vet Guard plasma gunner hitting on 5s is way worse than an Intercession gunner hitting on 4s, especially since elite units also level up faster, as smaller teams concentrate xp. Additionally, Medbay casualty rerolls stack with Medic casualty rerolls, and I have definitely had to use both before.

    Narrative is my favourite way to play. I think the core rules can be a little slow to level up via Spec Ops and so shortening the number of initial missions is something to consider.

      Yeah we've been a big fan of gallowdark expodition, which removes spec ops and gives everyone commendations at regular intervals, called blocks.
      That way you still get a.few especially if you get a loss and fail to score spec ops progress with tac ops

      Yeah it's a lot of fun! And you can play the zany missions in the back of the books (like octarius or nachmund)

    great run down of everything!! I agree for the most part! but the crack shot 1mw is great especially on a bolter that got 2 normal shots through, that 7 damage can be crucial! :D

    • @2CasualYT
      @2CasualYT  8 месяцев назад

      Definitely some extra value on the 3/4 profile compared to many others. Still the issue is consistency, very strong vs 7 would teams, but may have much more minimal effect when fighting something like hand of archon. It's not bad, but I probably wouldn't take it as a first pick

    Love the video. I've been playing in a spec ops campaign where we're rolling for battle honors so that we don't just min max our way through and it's resulting in some interesting gameplay.

    Great video! More people need to look at narrative campaigns! It’s so much fun. I’m really glad you are covering it :D
    If you can figure out how to do it, you need to make a video covering the narrative campaign rules in the back of the “into the dark” book! It replaces the whole spec ops mission you choose & instead gives you some structure to the campaign. Then it adds a endgame goal to the campaign , and powerful twists to apply to missions.

    Getting ready to begin a narrative campaign for my small group of KT players, and I can't tell you how much your videos have helped me! Thank you. Any chance you're still working on those faction (Aeldari please and thank you) specific narrative rules reviews?

    Having seen what space dorfs do with their ploy to make terrain heavy, I think you seriously underrate engineering bay. Any team with the ability to ignore obscuring can make a scrap pile of scrap wall--or a barricade if there's nothing else--heavy and stand 2.1 inches behind it. Non-reciprocal shooting for the entire game if they have the ability to ignore obscuring (Pathfinders, intercession, phobos, wyrmblade, hunter Clade, strike force Justian, etc). It's not good for everyone, but if you can ignore obscuring and your opponent can't, it's really strong.

      Yeah I can definitely see a usecase for getting reliable 1 way shooting in open board (still d teir in itd).
      I can see it as a 3rd or 4th pickup. The s tier ones are way too stronk and consistent

    What's your opinion on Dirty Fighter on operatives that can intermix their activations, like Blessed Blades in Chaos Cult or the K9 and Handler from Exaction Squad? With that you can can guarantee being supported and I know the Blessed Blades at least can definitely benefit from +1A.

    • @2CasualYT
      @2CasualYT  6 месяцев назад

      Interesting subject, lets break that down a little.
      1. With the exaction, the non-shield bros really don't like to be in melee and would give up a good shooting attack just to give a mid damage melee another attack. so not worth there
      2. The blessed blades are a bit more interesting because of their alternating activations and good melee. its really niche though because you need to meet a handful of conditions to be good:
      A) you must be fighting something strong enough that getting the extra attacks will make a substantial difference in killing it.
      B) the enemy cant be too strong that the combat wont last long enough that the extra attacks make a difference. (nice vs intersession, )
      C) when the kill happens you have to be okay with 2 models sitting out in the open, instead of just 1.
      d) requires both your models to be alive
      tl;dr decent vs elites with bad melee. not so much vs anything else
      Its defiantly cool in theory, but in practice it probably wont pay off in too many games. I would sooner choose Thirst for Slaughter or bladework, which are mathematically nearly as good without strict conditions to be useful. as a third pickup though, totally pick it up; and bonus points for being fun to use
