I remember finding somewhere a crazy D10,000 wild magic table. You can play through an entire campaign with a full party of wild magic characters and never roll the same one. That being said, some of them are very similar such as A fire/earth/air/water elemental appears as is friendly/neutral/hostile to you are all separate combinations, all water you are carrying turns to acid/stone/iron/gold/freezes/evaporates/etc are all separate. But it's still a much expanded list compared to the regular which only has 20 actual effects.

Its pure chaos cause he rolls every time he casts a spell and it so much fun.
He once turned a landlocked town into a beach cause the effect was to cast Mirage Arcane with a randomly determined biome it turns into.

Obviously we did some balancing on the effects but it made for an awesome quirky one time character.

that one time i DM'ed a TOON group and one player's character was a living Magic:TG deck (his highlander deck of about 500 cards, no copies) and every action he did, he chose a card and i then interpreted it in the most fun way... it happend on an 8h car trip to a convention and we all had a blast, (the other two player chars where "bad breath from last days partying" and a NYC yellow cab...

That was Merlin from the original 1980's Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. He on extremely rare occasions casted the spell he was going for from the magic hat he received from the Dungeon Master.

Just imagine a character that is literally a single black hole, it just absorbs everything it touches and if it rolls a 5 or below, it just can’t play for 10 turns as it is splitting, when it splits one character is the real one and the other is a pet

I've built this before. We called them a runebound. Every time we cast a spell we had to roll a d20 to find out which level spell it was going to be, then roll a d100 to figure out what spell at that level they were going to cast. Used it for about 20 sessions before retiring the character. The most useful thing we would do is on a long rest it would be able to create five random scrolls and hand them out but they had to be used before the next long rest. We would give any buffing scrolls to allies to make sure that they were taken care of.

We didn't have a character who did this, but it dm who was running a oneshot rolled to see what effect would happen every time someone rolled a nat 1 or nat 20, and he just happened to roll a shit ton of both
So eventually we had a kobold that just became God, and then became even more God

A wizard who can never tell if the magic worked or not so they are worried they aren’t actually a wizard and are actually just fugging lucky as heck
    “I cast fireball”
“Ok. As you cast it, you sneeze. When you open your eyes again, the zombie is dead. Although, the fighter is right next him holding a sword.”
Wether or not the wizard is actually a wizard is up to you, or you can make the whole party in on it and they work together to make the wizard think they are a wizard
