My favourite Australian Album. In their day Stars were by far the finest Australian Band on the circuits. Beautiful songs that I'll continue to play forever. Andy Durant , always remembered. Great to see Stars still out there too.

Yes bro, unfortunately they were Aussies not Yanks They could have been as big as the Eagles as they were every bit as good.

I remember this song being played on "Countdown ". Should've been a huge hit but as some have alluded to already, no airplay for Aussie bands back then ...

This band had so many great songs, with Andy Durant writing most of them. A very talented song writer and musician. Stars were playing on the local circuits at a time when discos were taking over and tv and radio were hammering out overseas content and most was trash. Still the bands at the time had a dedicated following and played to packed houses each night. There were so many great Aussie bands around this time but Stars was our favorite.

Life is too fast now, everyday there's a million things going on. I feel lucky to have lived my youth back in the day. It will never be again. You could see amazing Aussie bands down at the pub. It was way more innocent, film clips were simply of a band playing their music. And the music meant something. RIP Andy, good times and bad times come and go like wind and rain but summer always comes again in time. You taught me that! And I still believe it.

Great bands came out of Adelaide. Andy Durant does not get the accolades so deserved as one of our great story tellers of yester year. Saw them many times in the 70's. And they could really rock. The mighty rock the mighty roll . Once it's got you won't let go.

Saw these guys way back on a double bill with Dragon, who came on first (an hour late) and were a shambles. Mick Pealing got on stage and said, "Enough of the bullshit!" and then Stars blew the audience away. I can hear this song being covered by the Eagles with Timothy B. Schmidt singing lead - would have been massive.

Windy trail on a mountain morning
    Dusty shoes greet the day
Country boy leavin' the place he was born in
    To find a better way
A man looks out and sees the city
That he once called his own home
He's to go and find a place where he can be alone
    West is the way
    North is the thunder
East is what we're runnin' from
South is the sea where we'd go under
    West is the one
    A burnt-out farm, a worthless claim
    A Wagon moves away
Joins a train down on the plain
    Ramblin' through the day
They don't stop for no one
Cause all they had is gone
    A long and never-ending dream
    Keeps them going on
    (Chorus)
Look out where the sun is setting
Where hills roll like the sea
You'll see people after new beginnings
    Searchin' patiently
    (Chorus three times)

Andy, could sing! Omg i thought this was performed by Mick.
    Top film click.
    Ive always agreed,
    WEST IS the Way!
Mal was always so animated while playing his guitar, eyes shut most times, same with Mick !
But, Ian McDonald stole my heart ❤ 😂

Andy Durant, a tremendous talent gone way way too soon. His physical resemblance to David Crosby is almost spooky. Stars a truly great band from an era of great bands that will never be repeated. Those of us that lived through it were so lucky.

When in 1980/1981 i was into New Wave music , urgent, edgy, or new romantic, synthesizer and spacey. I was tired of the phony LA rock. Coke heads banging girls at their Hollywood pool parties....yeah, as if, and singing county 'n western. yeah, man, the Eagles 'aint rustlin' no cows...fuck that. They are snortin' coke and bangin' chicks. But, still, I couldn't help being moved by Stars. I was ashamed to buy, 'Best of Stars' or some BS like that in 1981, but West is the Way and Better Look After Yourself hit me in the hurt spot. I didn't know the dude died or maybe I did, but was never sure if the haunting effect was the song, the guy that may have written it had died, or the west coast california idealic had died, that made the song so tragic and moving. Anyway, nice songs.

TommyTwobats ... It is so good of you to acknowledge the musical brilliance of The Stars. I had just finished listening to my own two recordings of their greatest ( as you pointed out ), and was moved to check out the latest comments on YT, and sure enough, they're still coming in ( thanks to people like you ). Actually, it brought a tear to my eye. South Australia, in my humble opinion, turned out some of the most brilliant music of that era. No head banging trash : just cruisy soulful stuff. You have your musical head screwed on mate! Greetings from the West!
