' bout time' I mean, it IS about time somebody did a sensible review on these little excavators. Good information here for those of us who would like to know. Thanks for this Mike.
Great vid. Just an idea that i have done. Get about a 4' section of train track. Pinch the railhead between the bucket and the thumb and it works great for dragging around and smoothing out loose dirt and gravel. We have also made them out of 8" heavy wall pipe with a section of i beam welded to the top to grab with our larger excavators.
Hey Mike, 2 things. First check your backfill blade. Mine is made out of mild carbon steel without a cutting edge (Different manufacturer) and most are the same. The problem is that type of steel has almost no abrasion resistance and wears down pretty quickly. I went to my local weld shop and had them cut me 2 pieces of 3/16x2x blade width pieces that I welded on so I have a wear strip that should prevent me from damaging the blade itself. It cost me a $100 for the 2 pieces but I figure that's a lot cheaper then a new blade. Second. On your ramps. I would highly recommend putting some kind of strap from the ramp to the hitch or frame of the vehicle. I've had a ramp kick out twice before because it slipped either in the ground or off the metal on metal contact. The strap prevents it from moving. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your videos Mike, I recently found a guy near me in south eastern Pennsylvania who’s selling this brand and I bought one just like yours. I’m very happy with it. It struggles a little with some of the rocky dirt here but sure beats a pick and shovel! The guy I got it from was very familiar with your videos as well and said you had contacted him about some parts or something. Small world lol.
That's an awesome little fire spot you've made, I'd say that little machine has been paying for itself quite well! Also, maybe time to use it to make a loading dock 🤣
I remember once asking my brother in law why his excavator had the center tooth missing on the bucket. Then he shown me as he pushed over full size Cedar and Doug firs in his 100,000 lb excavator.
Mike, you are a freaking artist!! That is a really nice transformation of that property. Looking forward to the future videos with this piece of equipment. I wish I had one of those right now.
Great video Mike. That machine does pretty well. I watched a video about a landscaping job done with a 'tilting' bucket like you just bought, and that person was So skilled, he made almost impossible moves with it and the work went way faster than by hand. You'll fall in love with it in no time.
Great video! I have the MachPro15 which is pretty much the exact same machine as yours and picked up an auger. Excited to see your future videos going over the different attachments.
I really do enjoy your videos! Nice breath of fresh air compared to the overly edited videos you find everywhere. I found you with the china bikes haha. Watch every video since. Also! I’d love to see you upgrade or swap the motor in this machine. Like a bigger motor and see how if it makes it more capable and things easier like the stump.
Cool little machine I picked up an h12 atg put the hyd thumb on it an I'm working on installing cooler an filter kit I'm gona add a bit more weight on back an build drive motor bumper I think there very capable machines
I own 2 of these Chinese mini excavators a 1 ton and a 1.5 ton. It surprised me how much better handling the 1.5 ton is. I got it with a boom swing and more importantly the pilot controls so I don’t have to lean forward to operate the bucket and boom, just diy’d a pedal for the blade, next I’ll be diy-ing track controls to extend them back so I can rest my back while driving. Can you guess I have back issues? 67 and just 8 years as a jet engine mechanic destroyed my back. Added also temp gauge and cigarette lighter plug ,I do have a backup camera (magnetic) but have yet to use it much tho it operates fine. These thing can cut down hours spent on a task / job.
How much did the 1.5 cost you? I've been looking on alibaba and I feel like the prices on there can't be right. 2k for a machine is ridiculously low. Is that even close to accurate?
Good video, I agree with you about cant find good videos of people actually performing legit work with these mini excavators. Most videos are basically "look what I just got".
Thanks Mark for checking out my mini Excavator review videos. Yes that’s been frustrating for me when I was looking to buy one, I couldn’t find many videos of people getting work done with them, just mostly walking around the new mini excavator and talking about it without a speck of dirt on the machine.
Hello Mike, I have a new Sany SY16C which is a 1.8 tonne unit. It has a 3 cylinder Yanmar in it, and I run it as half throttle per the new engine guidance for the first 50 hours. I agree with your thoughts on running out of machine weight before machine power. My machine also gets the hydraulics quite hot, even at half throttle. I feel at the end of the day, any small digger like these beats a shovel and pick any time / any where and my aging muscles thanks me 😅. Thanks for sharing your journey. 😊
Great video, as always. For the record I have been subscribed to you since you were 3 digits of subscribers, and I have never missed a notification of your videos. I'm on a hardwired home computer. So I suspect the subscribers claiming they don't get notifications, are more likely a cause from their Cell provider or smartphone settings, than RUclips.
I've been looking at these for a while now as well after buying some land. I really appreciate you sharing and your little fire pit and bench area turned out really nice. I envy all that shade. My 1.2 acre is adjacent to my parents land, but maybe only 10% of the edge on one side has any trees. I have one bunch of tress sort of in the middle, but that will probably need to be cleared when I build my shop and home. I'm definitely opting for the hydro-thumb when I get one. I was also looking into skid steers but I want one that has the auto leveling because I'd use it with forks a lot.
People underestimate the power of hydraulics. Some years ago I worked on the 10 ton aveling and barford roller, for compressing tarmac. They actually run on a small 3 cylinder diesel engine driving an Hydraulic motor, very powerful. Looks a great little machine , although in the uk most ppl would hire one for around 70 bucks ( sterling) per day. Loving your friends guitar work also.
Cutting the toe roots with a sawzall really helps, less stress on you and your machine and sawzall blades are really cheap and a strap on the roots works very well for me
Not only do I agree with not running the motor at full throttle, the Harbor Freight 420 has a max RPM of 3600 but makes max torque at 2500 (18.4 ft lb). Love the articulating mini dump!
I tell back when I was in the forest service doing trail maintenance and construction it would have been nice to have one of those! Back in the early 80s lol
Hey Mike, thanks for the video. I bought one in the same place you did. I'm going to make some videos using the machine as well so people can see how it works. I see you put some counterweights on the back. Do you have an update on that? I was thinking of just putting a 60lb dumbbell back there. If I do, I will show it.😁
Right on 👍 hope you been happy with your machine, so far mine is still working good. I did add a little extra weight to the back of mine, hard to know if it made any difference? I probably only add 50# or so. I think more weight the better. But for the most part these little machines do pretty well just the way they are. 😊
I've heard that RUclips uses more than one algorithm to serve content to people. I know you're not interested in making shorts, but would you consider a live stream? fun idea. leave the stump for or five feet long dig a hole put the stump in. clean the root.cut it flat across and make a table. seen up at rainer people leave them ten feet and wound lights in the roots for night lighting.
Michael, great video as always! When many of us from the south think PNW we automatically think rain...is that an accurate perception? It's so GD dry in Arkansas now my place is about to blow away. Typically we get pretty good rainfall for the Mid-South... not this summer!
To aid when filling your excavator with gas, get one of those battery powered gas pumps. That way you can fill the excavator tank with more control instead of fighting with the EPA approved dribble fill nozzle on your portable fill tank. Just be careful when the fill tank is higher than your excavator tank. Sometimes the pump hose acts like a siphon and keeps flowing after you turn off the electric pump. The fill hose is soft enough to just squeeze the flow off with your fingers.
These things are so handy and have a lot hate from people that dont know a thing about them and probably never even looked at one. You are probably referring to my Typhon that gets hot after traveling and I do run full throttle as its over a quarter mile to traverse to the end of my property and its painfully slow. I've noticed it also gets 180F+ using the little blade a lot (at 3/4 or higher power) doing some dozing/leveling. Any thoughts on doing counterweights? TBN forum several members cast some lead ones at 100-200#. Thats on my future to do list. I think it will help with them being tippy with a full bucket and swinging.

I ordered it 3 months ago. I think the company has been overwhelmed with business these days. Hope they get it out to you soon 👍
