Original video in Ukrainian: • Smaraad X3 - мій досві...
The original action takes place in July 2023, when my first WT arrived, and it appeared to be a small vertical X3 model.
Link to the inverter (definitely good one, proven to work with my other WT, as you may have already seen in my other videos): s.click.aliexp...
Link to the turbine (however, I do not recommend it): s.click.aliexp...
Now to explain a bit about the rotor and the generator.
Rotor (or windwheel) is Darrieus-type, it is quite good per its capabilities with its theoretical wind energy conversion coefficient of 16% (compare it to the 9% of Savonius type of wind turbine like TESUP or HARMONY, or to 42-45% of any normal horizontal wind turbine type).
It can theoretically output the following (due to its quite small size, being only 750x490 mm in area):
    at 3m/s -1 watt
    at 4 m/s - 2 watts
    at 5 m/s - 4 watts
    at 6m/s - 10 watts
    7 - 18
    8 - 27
    9 - 40
    10 - 55
    11 - 73
    etc...
However, the generator is not good at all... It does not provide any realistic voltage. Reasons are simple:
    1. The stator has too few coils
    2. Magnets are too small
So the generator does not have enough electromotive force produced...
I will tinker with it a bit later on, and will try to do some mods, however, that will be later, and only if I have enough time and enough motivation.

Great video, thanks for translating it from the original. I remember when vertical units were seen as the future. I was a lot younger then though 😅. I look forward to watching your videos. Today I'm out of time and need to get with done

I'm trying only to show the reality, without any adjustments.

Thanks for sharing your experience! You just confirmed that a wind turbine may not generate anything even when it spins like crazy. It is well known that the energy produced is proportional to the size of the swept area and you just demonstrated it.

well, I tried it again later with a controller, the result was a tiny bit better, but still not good enough

@@ModernUkrainianHomesteadI had the pleasure to play with Skystream 3.7, by one of the leading wind turbine manufacturers called SouthWest in USA back in 2010. It's a horizontal product. But it had to be installed way higher, say 30 ft or higher to capture meaningful energy. While it worked well, but the price of solar came down and I'd better off to deploy solar with the same price and generate more. Vertical ones just don't work based on physics!!

@@DowJones-e8k true. but I'm capped with solar (43 kW of panels already), and still have to cover the underproduction in winter. that's why I am playing with the wind turbines, and so far, given the mistakes made, I am happy with the result.

nice video. but i find it always best to use higher voltage turbine. example:for a 12v system, i use 24v wind turbine so it can meet the cut in voltage at way lesser rpm.

    • @ModernUkrainianHomestead
      @ModernUkrainianHomestead  6 месяцев назад

yes, higher voltage mean less losses on the power transition over distance as well, and it is also going to start delivering power way earlier. now I know that too, after playing with them around for almost a year now.

Thanks for the review. All useful learning. I have twi istabreeze i1500 turbines. Going well after 2 years in harsh weather. Very pleased with output. I was thinking if going for a larger smaraad horizontal 2 maybe 3kw but if they sell things like this it ruins their credibility. Maybe their hotizontal axis ones are ok, but this puts me off. Thanks for the review anyway. Great place you have there!

well, I'd suggest going with FT or SL series (from Wuxi FengTeng or Smaraad). Wuxi is a bit better, since they not overexagerrate their productivity.

If you modify the shape of the blade, maybe you can get better performance. There is plenty of information over the internet about the most effective vertical turbine blade shape and their specific efficiency. Thanks for the videos, they are very interesting :)

      thanks!
hm, but this is one of the best possible blades out there. pure lift form, just screwed to form a kind of X shape. in short - it's Darrieus type in its perfect form, altogether with the small accelerator in the center to ensure smooth low-wind start.
I mean, the rotor itself is great, I have no complains about it, it even rotates nicely and is good-looking.
the main trouble here in this exact wind turbine is the generator... It's definitely designed to be on a high-side of the revs to get some required voltage/wattage, but should be on a low-rev side (since realistic revs are 40-250 for this type of vertical WT). I will try tinkering around with it a little bit later, likely the bigger magnets will do the trick, since the default ones are not giving the gen enough electromotive force...

Nice video! Freedom for your country! Use a heat pump fan. You can get them for free, DC power and just hook it up. It will give more power than any small windturbin. It als spins with rain. The bigger the better ofcause!

@@ModernUkrainianHomestead at 1:42 you can see the video jumping ever so slightly when walking to the left to show the different angles. I think it is inconsistent with the way it would look when walking and videoing at a regular speed.

I never do it, neither the speedups nor the slowdowns, since I have no understanding why should anyone do this?
