Today's video is a KILN OPENING!
It's a cone 6 with a 10 minute hold. It went to just over a 6.5 cone. Too hot for my liking but most things turned out! 🥳
I tried some new combos in this load. I like to throw a few new ones in every load to keep it interesting for both YOU and me.😊

Great kiln opening, despite the heat! We fire our community kiln to a Cone 5 with a 30 minute hold, and achieve a great cone 6. Also a Skutt kiln. I can check specifics tomorrow, when I go in. I would be interested in your video on watercolour on pottery. It’s been on my wish list for a while. Thanks Audrey!

Omgosh that little sheep is awesome!! I’m sorry your lion got so hot. I had my kiln overfire several times, manual kiln, and I found that I really love the look of my glazes at cone 7 but you sure do need to know you’re glazing for a cone 7 firing! Lol. I can’t wait for the tutorial on how to watercolor! Those watercolor pieces are soo beautiful!!! I absolutely love the piece that the bottom stuck to the kiln!! Great idea for the decals on the bowl. I have those exact ones. The last piece is so beautiful as well can’t wait to try that one too. Thanks so much for sharing with us.

Very interesting glaze combos. With the amount of glaze you are applying to some of the pieces you're probably walking a fine line between firing hot enough to get a good melt (that heals up pinholes in addition to blending glazes) and not so hot that glazes are running off your pieces. Have you thought of putting your cones in front of your peep holes (at least a cone 6 -7 combo) and then you could look into the kiln (with the appropriate eye protection) and check if the cones have gone down. This, of course, means that you have to be near the kiln when it gets to top temp. I used to use Skutts and Cone Art kilns with programmable controllers and always set the firings to a full cone higher than what I wanted to end at, then watched for the right cone to go down and then shut the kiln off. Depending upon the quantity, thickness and sizes of pieces in the kiln, the kiln is going to fire a bit different almost every time and watching your cones is the only way you can tell when the kiln gets to where you want it to be.

I have fired to 2222, 15 min hold and a slow cool.
Thia ia a good suggestion. My kiln opening tommorrow is a slow cool with 5th to 2190. Maybe next time I will try a little higher!
I thot your water colouring was so pretty! What are the rods you hang your pendants on? I’ve used wire but it wants to sag
Thank you for your compliment! I got those rods with my bead tree from, I think, Sounding Stone Pottery Supply in Canada. They are thick!
Does the ceiling shape of the kiln affect the glaze outcome?
