How to dismantle and reseal your Ferguson TEF20 Injection Pump.

  • In this video I run through stripping the pump, replacing the seals and re assembling it. I leave all settings as per the original so the pump should run as it did when last used. This is just how I did it. I'm sure there are many different ways to tackle this job.
    The diaphragm used is Sparex No: S.43220

    Thank you so much for this extraordinarily useful video. On my TEF20, the diaphragm failed causing the engine to run at way too high an rpm even with the valve spring de-compressor open. Could not stop it & eventually stalled it going backwards with the transport box on the floor scraping till it hit enough soil that the engine cut out. My relief at that time was near religious. Got a new diaphragm from my parts supplier in the U K. He had sold several, but never fitted one. It then took three of us over 3 hours to get the new diaphragm on, which I am now believe was due to the rack not moving back enough. As was it was key hole surgery, screw drivers prising the new diaphragm back, the washer put on from a grease loaded screw driver, the split pin with tweezers through the vacuum port. Then the throttle was jammed and it took me another 3 hours to get the two back plate screws out, eventually using an impact wrench. At that point I quit as I could not see how to split the rear housing & came in & saw your video & I went from despair to feeling a lot better. Thank you for sharing!

Your videos have been a big help on getting the first one running and at it’s first rally earlier this year . Now working on the TEF , it’s bit like doing a giant 3D puzzle as a lot of the parts were missing , but with your help , and my pal Bert , who actually worked on these tractors in days gone bye , I’m getting there …… Ha ha ! • @MrBusdriver63
      @MrBusdriver63 7 лет назад +1

      Yes that is true Lance, the B275 with the inline pump had a pneumatic governor,[ as you know] but there was no throttle connection to the injector pump , the B250 were the same. The later model B275 were fitted with a DPA rotary injector pump.

    thats awesome ...not that complicated at all...this pump quite a bit the same as dexta...well there is an extra nozzle of course... it uses the same diaphragm part no ... mine is having a hard time to idle low ..i';m just using it for blowing snow but have to hold the throttle by hand on the absolutely no throttle to keep it from over reving ...very inconsistent and feels like it might be misfiring a little ..it evens out when it is under load and blowing deep snow ..a few things i've read and watched says its that diaphragm ..it reminds me of an old chainsaw with bad crank seals sucking a bit of air ,, another guy on here had that diaphragm go bad on a major but his just smoked ...mine has a vertical exhaust ..if it was down by the rear tire i suppose it would burn the eyes a bit but i can't tell if its smoking as bad as his ..it always smoked and chances are it always will ...but would that diaphragm make it over rev??

    Hi Bundy, greetings from Ireland. I have a similar pump on my TEF20 and have air in the injection pump. Diesel is draining down into oil sump. Injector spray pattern is good. Any idea where I need to look for this leak. The pump reservoir will have air in it which I bleed before I start. Engine is constantly hunting when running. Any ideas where I need to look.

    • @BundyBearsShed

      Look at the front pump seal or for a leaky manifold heater, the hunting can be a diaphragm leak or a blocked orifice in the inlet manifold.

    excellent film. one question … i watched Cherry top Farmstays little film ferguson tef20 diesel injectors and he stated you fill that oil cavity to the top with oil , and its not mixed with diesel as a lubricant. Im a bit confused with this bit. you cover it (at time 1hr 20min in. )the end of your film and say fill with oil to the drain plug and it gets mixed with diesel , Its the only bit im confused about.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  4 месяца назад

      Due to the design of the pump the oil in the sump of the pump will dilute over time with the diesel that has leaked past the elements. That is just how it is, you start with clean oil and end up over time with runny oil.

      John Wells - Lance gives a clue at around 41 minutes about the spill timing for individual cylinders and how it can be adjusted - 6° for a full turn of the hex nut, and 1° if you just turn it one flat. Not fully explained of course - as he said at the beginning it was about a general overhaul without going too deep into the technicalities, but you might find there’s enough detail to get you started if you want to check and adjust the spill point for individual cylinders. Bloody good video - so much detail packed into it and the finished pump looks a treat. Very satisfying watching you tap those plugs into place at the end!

    Those screws for the filters might even be 1/4" Whitworth or 5/16" BSF.
    If so they have a grip across flats of 13,34 mm.
    I have noticed that some of the bolt heads on my FE35 is Whitworth and the only spanner that fits is the adjustable one.
    The screw at the bottom of the fuel filter and also on the starter engine are Whitworth.
    We can find the sizes here: www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/psc/spanner_jaw.html
    But we can't easily find any spanner nowadays.

    • @BundyBearsShed

      G Day Duncan, About all you can do is remove the injector lines and turn the engine over and check they all look the same with regard to fuel squirt and that the stop is working etc. Pull the side cover off and check for oil and rust etc.

      On the Gardner 6lx pump you have priming levers on each injector element that you can operate to see if the pump is operating the injectors.

    Hi Lance. Firstly just to say thanks for all your videos which have been a great help on numerous occasions. I have a '55 TEF that I use on our 6.5 acre plot in Herefordshire in UK which constantly needs large or small amounts of attention. The cold start button on the injector pump seems reluctant to stay in and I wondered if you knew what holds it in and then releases it and is there something I could do short of stripping the pump as per your fine video? Cheers Greg

      G Day Greg, I would just check for corrosion on the front little housing where it is and free that up a bit.

    G’day mate, first off fantastic video, I’ve been looking for something like this for ages, I have the same pump on my TEF with roughly the same problem, so this video has helped a hell of a lot, I don’t suppose you could tell me the place in England you got the kit for the pump from, or by any chance you got a couple of extra kits to sell through your business? Any help would be much appreciated, and again fantastic video, glad I stumbled across it so now I’m following the other ones you are doing on your tractor.

    • @BundyBearsShed
      @BundyBearsShed  7 лет назад +1

      The kit and diaphragm total would have been around $160 but I had to import the kit from England. The fuel dose is set with the clamp screws that you can loosen the element and adjust it on the rack. I left these in the same position just to be sure.

    G'day lance... I also have a lot of play in the shaft controlling the diaphragm. Unfortunately I had to drill the housing fixing screws out, as they were seized solid. Inside was full of rusty water and the 'plunger' (at 14:30) was seized solid too. Only way was to bore it out on the lathe, as it resisted heating and 'plusGas' release fluid......amazing as the tractor (and throttle) was working ! I've made a replacement but are you sure its the throttle control ....and not the 'stop' lever?

    At this point i'm afraid I'm going to have to free up my injector pump, my DP3 runs good and slow to start but when it heats up it starts over revving a lot. The biggest problem is that I don't have nice conditions like yours to work in, and I'm a big old cluts so I was avoiding any thing to do with the injecshon pump itself.
