  • A look back in time at The 'Jumbo' Railcars in South Australia-examples, preservation & scrapping.
A look at 2000 class Adelaide Railcars aptly named 'Jumbos'.
The 2000 Class RailCars were known as 'The Jumbos' because of their raised cabs resembling The Boeing 747 Jumbo aircraft.
They were built by Comeng in Granville, New South Wales for
The State Transport Authority STA(South Australia) 1978-1980.
Adelaide Metro 2000 RailCars at Dry Creek 2014with the Orange State Transport Authority Livery (STA) leading.
STA were replaced by TransAdelaide and then Adelaide Metro.
Some of the RailCars eventually changed their livery to Yellow, Red and Blue.
In February 2014 the 2000 and 2100 railcars were no longer permitted to
operate on the Belair and Seaford lines due to electrification of that part of the system.
They were formally retired in August 2015.
2006 & 2112 went to The National Railway Museum (Railcars 3019 3018 took them from Dry Creek to Adelaide Railway Station then 3003 3130 took them from Adelaide Railway Station to the NRM)This info thanks to SARailways621-Check the channel out!
2010 & 2109 went to SteamRanger Heritage Railway
2009 & 2104 went to The Metropolitan Fire Service
