  • Let's go for a walk through the Milang Railway Museum and the South Australian Light Railway Centre.

Milang Railway Station opened in 1884 as the terminus of a branch line from the Victor Harbor Line. It thrived for a while but the river trade was in decline by the time the line was completed. Rail services dwindled until the station closed in 1970 and virtually all traces of the station were removed. A committed band of volunteers still stuck by the idea of restoring the precinct one day as a railway museum and they rebuilt it all, bit by bit, until the new Railway Museum officially opened in 1992.
It's open on weekends from 12 - 4 and the café car is open on Sundays. There’s plenty more to find around the museum that I didn’t cover here so you need to come see it for yourself. Bring the family, it’s free to look around. Donations are welcome and encouraged.

Why doesn't somebody put aproposal forward to re-open the line from Finniss to Milang so tourists can see the train running again?
Can't see the point in having all this stuff in Milang if there's no train to anywhere.

Even the museum volunteers don't think it will happen. A lot of work has gone into revegetating and rehabilitation of the walking trail.

@@Outdoorstype Oh...........well I think a train is way more important than a walking trail.
You can have walking trails anywhere, they don't have to be where a rail line was.
People in SA don't seem to have any hootspa or care about trains.

@@garynewton1263 Old line now belongs to someone else. To just reclaim it (though I'd love to see the train return), would be theft. Can't be a compulsory purchase because it is not a significant project.
Also, don't be a dick about other states.

Was quoted once as about 50 million when they were once considering it, alot of money back in the mid 90s I think it was

@@bradleytanner7230 Oh that's the old south australian trick if grossly over quoting the cost of doing something so that lazy south australians won't have to do it.$50,000.......bullshit.
If the state govt, volunteer rail groups and donations were organised it would eventually get done.
Also the Clare, Tanunda & Loxton lines.
