@Bonnie Cull I don't think so, I think that they blindly followed the high sparrow and he was so intent on not letting anyone "evade justice", that he simply would not allow for anyone to leave. They were basically just enforcing his will.
Sort of a spoiler, but Kevan is not killed by a wildfire explosion in the books. He died in a similar fashion as Pycelle was in the show, in that he was lured and then unexpectedly killed, but what differs is that he was killed by Varys. Apparently, Varys told him that while he bore Kevan no ill will, he believed Kevan to be such a good leader that he would bring peace to the realm and undo the discord Varys tried to sow, and this peace would make it difficult for a Targaryen to reclaim the throne. For that reason, Kevan needed to die.

David Eats that would add an interesting twist. Maybe there’s a reason the red priestess in Mereen mentioned it to Varys other than just to spook him or show how much she knows/has magical powers. The GoT world is a very zero sum one so I can understand why Varys could think Kevan good but still feel the need to kill him. Kevan has a large army and is influential. "To stand by my son." The trick to Cersei was making everything fake but her love for her children real. Her voice breaks as she speaks. Only that actress can humanize a demon like Cersei.
HotaruZoku Lena Heady’s portrayal of Cersei is one of the major departures from the book. She adds a very subtle human element, which is quite compelling on screen. In the books, Cersei is a straight up insane, like actually fuckin bonkers. She only kinda liked Joff because she saw her own ferocity in him.
I honestly never bought her so called love for her children. She loved her children in the same way Tywin loved his family. She loved the idea of them, as things that were hers to own and control. Every time there was a choice for their happiness or safety that meant them not being directly in her presence or control she fought against it.
Kevan Lannister figured out from a very early age that his best bet in life was to follow and obey his older brother Tywin, and it was a strategy that served him extremely well

Kevan Lannister is like Stannis Baratheon. They are capable individuals and know what is right and wrong. Not going to lie, when all the big dogs like Tywin, Joffrey(Debatable), Tyrion either left or died, king's landing was in the palms of mice and from there will the destruction be the worst.
@Frank Castle Joffrey was anything but a puppet king... he didn't listen to his mother or any of his advisors, he did what he wanted to do (beheading Ned, torturing Sansa etc.), he even confronted Tywin twice. Tywin and Tyrion could intimidate him to an extent, but they certainly couldn't control his actions. He would have massacred all the sparrows the moment they dared to touch the royal family (that's why he is sort of a "big dog"), and here we have Tommen a helpless, naive child who couldn't wipe his own ass properly if someone didn't tell him how to do it.
The showrunners were told, roughly speaking, how GRRM envisioned that things would end. But I imagine they took a number of shortcuts to get there, blowing up the sept included
Nah. This all started because of Cersei’s paranoia, which all started because of her protectiveness of her bastard kids, who exacerbated the situation by beginning the war of the 5 kings, by cutting off Ned’s head, but he only did that because he was insane but he was insane because he was an incest bastard from Cersei and Jaime, but Cersei and Jaime only fucked because of Tywin’s inability to see the sexual proclivities of his kids, but his refusal to really listen and learn about his kids came from his perceived weakness of his father, who was always laughed and and mocked, but he was only mocked because he was rich and gregarious, whilst being kind and generous, without any sternness, which was only allowed due to the vast amounts of westerland gold, so really, the formation of the Westerlands gold veins caused the war of the five kings.
I'd say Kevan is better suited to rule, Tywin is too bitter about everything including his wife's death, his father having a mistress. He caused the downfall of his house by planning the red wedding and Tyrion's trial

Sprenzy In the books, Varys is in cahoots with Illyrio and Jon Connington to put Young Griff on the throne. He needs the realm to first be in peril to be able to do this.

It was a good device, I believe. My problem with it is that it is too "wacky" of a sound effect. It could have been better if they used a more "accidental, realistic" sound. In this case it is much too "Monty Python" rather than "Game of Thrones" and seemed like someone tried vandalize or sabotage the official soundtrack.
Lol it's hilarious. And they included it because most miss it anyway. Idk if it's our if character for any show honestly. It happens out of fear and I think the sound they used was very realistic. Either way it's frigging hilarious.

Kevan Lannister is a dream of a brother for every Lord. Especially to someone as precise as Tywin Lannister. As a second son, he accepted Tywin's rule and supported him to the best of abilities, so much so that he was possibly the only person Tywin trusted. And the most important thing is that he did not support Tywin because he was the older brother, but because he was smart enough to see the wisdom of Tywin when it came to politics and war. In the books, he is so effective in ruling the Kingdom in the chaotic aftermath of The War of the Five Kings and death of Tywin that Varys thought Kevan needed to be assassinated to destabilize the realm once again.
This is when the writing was still skillfully crafted. When character development meant a damn. Everything was brilliant. Now Game of Thrones is a joke.
And all these side characters added so much to Westeros feeling like a real place. Now it has become Star Wars; larger than life heroes struggling over good and evil and the fate of the faceless masses.
I wish they portrayed Kevan as he was in the books. Nearly as capable as Tywin, and his most trusted confidante. In the show he has the same standing as any other advisor to Tywin. In the books, even in scenes such as when Tywin makes Tyrion hand of the king, Kevan was there with him.
You missed out Kevan's best exchange in whole the show: *Cersei:* There's to be a royal announcement? *Kevan:* There is. *Cersei:* Why wasn't I informed? ... *Kevan:* There's to be a royal announcement... in the throne room... at this very moment.
Tyrion: I killed my mother Joana the day I was born, I killed my own father. I am the *GREATEST* Lannister slayer of our time!" Cersei: I'm about to end this whole man's career *blows up sept, directly killing uncle, cousin, her daughter-in-law, and her son indirectly*
I love how when Tywin reveals Robert is dead, Kevan gives Tyrion a look like "pretty great, huh?" And then when Tyrion says Cersei was the one behind Ned's imprisonment, Tywin's look basically says "hey, your words, not mine."
In the novels the role of Kevan Lannister is more significant and broader than the depiction in the show, I regret that. Ian Gelder did a good job, it was the decision of the production to minimize Kevan in the adaption I think. Well, the show had abandoned the path of the novels by the point when "Show Kevan" became Hand, in the novels he became "Regent". It'll be interesting how a reboot of GOT in a few years will adapt Kevan then!
Kevan was Tywin's worthy successor. He was his most valued adviser and the only person Tywin trusted with Casterly Rock and the future of house Lannister aside from Jamie. Kevan was wise, he saw Tywin's potential by looking past the yoke of the laughing lion. He knew when to lead and when to follow, when to retreat and when to attack. When he needed to manipulate and when he was being manipulated. Cersei claims she was the one that listened to Tywin and heeded his lessons, whilst in fact it was Kevan. His biggest mistake is that he wasn't as relentless as Tywin was, allowing his son to become such a wuss and join the faith militant, and underestimate Cersei's cruelty.
Tywim and Kevan both understood eachother very well. Kevan 100% understood the wishes and motives of Tywin as hand in relation to his grand children. He knew removing Cersei as the error with Jof and was on the list for Tom.
Poor Kevan. Losing his youngest children in a war that his bother's family provoked. Loosing another son because... only the gods know wtf was wrong with the boy. Maybe Cercei knows. Even after all that the poor guy dragged himself into the mess King's Landing was in to pay his respects to his brother. The brother who was unable to keep his own family in check that also got Kevan's family killed.
One of the most underrated characters in the books but more so in the show. A truely loyal and loving brother and father. And intelligent and exceedingly capable to boot. In the books he gets some of that praise, in the show other characters just portrait him as a tool.
2 Lannisters, 3 Tyrells the whole high septon crew, Maester Pycelle, and then the King... almost every character of the king's landing died with that blast
Honestly if I were to predict what should've happened after she blew the sept up, I would say the people would've revolted, at least the ones in the city. There were so many innocent lives lost and tons of collateral damage. One thing that might've made it more interesting than what actually happened would be if the people seized control of King's Landing and started a Republic. The first and only republic in Westeros. That'd be cooler I think
But westeros was under the feudal system creating a republic in our time mostly started because of the enlightment the people would need some kind of movement first they wouldn't just stop the feudal system because it has been like that for like for so long. Nevertheless it would still be cool.
@@nathanlam9282 how do you think the Roman republic was created? They threw down their king and just created a republic instead. On the other hand they weren't the first republic in the world.
@Frank Castle Which makes him no different than any other powerful player in the game. He believes he is on the right and just side, so when he says "For the good of the Realm", he isn't lying.

That makes me wonder if he has information only he knows about the future and that that is central to informing his intentions and his actions.
If he doesn’t wish to follow Dany, he could pose a formidable threat to her. At this point, it just feels like Varys and Dany has overstepped the mark from their initial good intention. They’ve gone from wanting what’s best for Westeros to wanting what’s best for Westeros as long as they are on the throne. And of course the latter allows them to feel justified in committing evil which makes them little different to the characters they morally looked down on.

When Doran stopped her plot, Ser Gerold Dayne attempted to kill Myrcella and the Martells raced her back to Sunspear where Doran's maester saved her life.

That'd be cooler I think
But westeros was under the feudal system creating a republic in our time mostly started because of the enlightment the people would need some kind of movement first they wouldn't just stop the feudal system because it has been like that for like for so long. Nevertheless it would still be cool.

@Frank Castle Kevan's death couldn't be the same in the show because the entire Young Griff storyline didn't happen. And I don't think Cersei necessarily outplayed Kevan, how could anyone predict what happened? I like both of his deaths, show version and the book version.
@@yourfriendlyneighborhoodin994 We hate that she killed Margaery, such a potential she had, if she was alive she would be the only southern ruler alive now that there is no dorne , and as Gendry will probably be storm's end lord , Margaery could have been Highgarden's lady and warden of the south, as her grandmother was even if she was not officially called so
What's funny as hell is how Tyrion tries to explain to his father how PRIMITIVE the "tribesmen" are (stabbing themselves over a SAUSAGE, getting revenge by chopping the "manhood" of the opponent - demanding "blood-money", etc.), - and what sort of..."social construct" do they obey to (i.e: NONE!), but for his father it is just "a question of discipline among soldiers", even though they are not even soldiers! ...they're just ...a HORDE! :D :D
Was that fart added in or did i miss it on tv? 😂
milinm what time?
Kane Jones Pycelle blasts an air biscuit.
Around 13:12 where Pycelle is talking shit about Qyburn and The Mountain. And then The Mountain walks in along with Cersei and Jamie.
