- Learn how to knit the Bernat Ripple and Ridge Knit Blanket (Chevron Stitch) from Yarnspirations featuring the new Bernat Beyond yarn! pattern and blog
LINK HERE www.yarnspirat...
The pattern falls in the EASY SKILL level for knitting. I cover all stitches, including the increase and decrease, and weaving tails so if this is your first big project you will have all skills needed in this video. If you have never knit a stitch before I do recommend learning the longtail cast on, knit and purl with one of my slower videos first.
Let’s knit this blanket together! Download your pattern at the blog link above.
Yarn
Bernat Beyond color Cream (7 balls). Contrast A
Bernat Beyond color Slate (4 balls). Contrast B
Bernat Beyond color Pumpkin (4 balls). Contrast C
*For Lovey size - 1 ball each color.
Needles & Supplies

• scissors
• tapestry needle
Skill Level
Easy
Size
Approx 50½" x 60" [128.5 x 152.5 cm]. (Baby “Lovey” size 15”x19”)
Skills demonstrated in tutorial
Longtail Cast-on
Knit Stitch
Purl Stitch
K2tog - decrease
YO - increase
Weaving in ends
The blanket begins with a garter border then jumps right into the ripples. The ripples are created with a simple 2 row repeat that includes the K2tog (knit 2 stitches together) increase and the YO (yarnover) decrease. That’s right only two distinct rows to learn!
My video tutorial walks you through the entire pattern from start to finish. We’ll spend most of our time focusing on the 2 rows of the ripple pattern to make sure you have a good understanding of the techniques. Once you begin working, the ripples will fall off your needles quickly and you’ll reach the first color change before you know it. Then I’ll show you how to add in a new color (2 ways) so whatever colors you choose your transitions will be smooth. We’ll also discuss and show how to weave in the tails for color changes on a garter stitch and for the ending tail. Lots of tips included!
If you need a slower video on basic stitches (longtail cast-on, knit, purl & bind-off) or other techniques, please check out my slower tutorials on GoodKnit Kisses RUclips playlist.

BONUS! Make a Baby Lovey!
I made a smaller baby “lovey” in the video in Purple, Lilac & Quartz Pink; 1 ball of each. The size is 15”x19” with a cast on of 48 stitches. Download the pattern, grab your yarn and needles and watch the video for complete tutorial.
EDIT: I had added this to the loom knit version and didn't even think about it for the needle one. Here is a listing of cast on numbers. In parenthesis are the pattern repeat amounts. Hope this helps!

Thank you for sharing very comprehensive and clear tutorial. 🥰🥰
This is my favourite tutorial for a blanket. I have made 2 now, I have tried other patterns and they never worked out for some reason. I just finished a single bed size and I am amazed how fast it worked up once I was in my knitting groove. Thank you Kristen you're a great teacher and have an outstanding channel
Very clear and comprehensive tutorial. Thank you
Hi krista love this blanket...your a good teacher...thanks for doing this TURTORIAL....HAPPY KNITTING
I made it for my cousin's baby... It looks awesome thanks....

I am new to knitting and found this on RUclips. You did a great job explaining this beautiful pattern. I think I’m going to try this one. What happens if I drop a stitch off one of the knitting needles… Do I have to tear out the entire row?
Fumble Bunny I’m here 👋 😁 Thank you!!
Thank you, think I'll give it a try
hello i really like your turtorials. love this blanket. ive been away from knitting but back again doing it. could you please tell me the best cingular needles to buy thanks. there are so many
Hi there, love your video and I’m going to try my first Afghan using your pattern. Just a quick question I have some yarn and one roll is 354 yards /17 ounces, 324 m/198g, I do want to make the large 50 x 60 Afghan. I’m just wondering how much balls of yarn I need for each section? Hopefully you can help.
I'm going try, thank you. 👩🦳
Can you use a different yarn? I have some medium weight yarn #4 and would like to make this Afghan with it. If I can how much would I need, how would you figure that out🤔Help please🙏
Hello I would love to make this blanket using a size 4 yarn is that possible for the afghan loom
Why do I end up with 2 more stiches in the end? I casted on 126, but affter the 2nd row of the pattern it counts 128!
Can I add stitches to make it wider? 159 instead of 139 ?
How could I finish with a straight edge on this chevron pattern? I'm knitting a sweater and the cast off at the top of the sleeves is zig-zagged instead of straight, which makes setting the sleeve very difficult and bulky. Any ideas?
Good day how would you work a straight edge on tge chevron blanket. Im using the pattern for a cardigan n want to attach ribbing
How do you finish this off so the ending is wavy as the beginning?
I just made the smaller size as a tester for my bigger project and it looks great but is there a way to make the cast off end look as nice as the start with the wavy edge?
I’m not sure. Maybe if blocking and pinning out but I haven’t tested making a change to force it.

Bernat beyond is sold out everywhere. Is there some other kind of yarn I can use
So frustrated. I started the pattern row after 8 first rows. When I got to the end of the row, I was at k2tog, k2tog, and bam, was at the last 5 stitches. No room for knitting the last 4, yo then knit last 5. Figured I made a mistake so I spent time “unknitting” the entire row, started over. Super concentrated, paid close attention, but ended up at the same place at the end of the row. K2tog, twice, only 5 stitches left. So I figured my stitch count had to be off. I counted it three times, 139 stitches. Counted a fourth time and placed markers at every 20 stitches to insure counting was right. 139 stitches. I could not get this pattern to work out as per written to save my soul.
I am in the same situation i am making the lovey but at the end were left with five stitches as for the tutorial making the yo increase a stitch when u going the second time coun is off need help
Try co 4 place marker then start over with your count and place a marker after every 13 during your co then add 5 more when you are at your desired width as the repeat is 13
Wish I had read this comment. I too tried couple of times with markers then realized the knit count in the pattern in wrong... I finally cast in the multiples of 12+1 and 8 for edges. It does not work in the multiple of 13... Also instead of reducing 2 times, I knit 3 together.
What I followed to make it work is... K4 K1 YO K4 K3tog K4 YO K1 YO K4 K3tog K4 ..... And so on
I did the pattern as stated and worked for me I think what people are missing is the k2tog X2 (two times, same as k3tog
@@robinmead521 I didn't miss the k2tog two times. What didn't work was k4 after yarn over and k4 after the k2tog two times. It will make the design either asymmetrical or two ridges in centre instead of one. Moreover, the multiples of 13 didn't work for me.
Hi. I casted on 165 stitches. Can this be done. I cannot achieve the pattern. Please help. Thanks
Would I want to make a bigger size for a stroller size blanket
Five Stars
I am making the blanket with two colors. Will this work or should i get another yarn color?
Angela Connolly you can work in however many colors you like. ☺️
*Purchased for my daughter dorm room she loves it **MyseIf.Furniture** It's really soft and covers most of her dorm room. It's a great price and good quality and it doesn't no shedding.*
loom would be great
There is a loom version ☺️
What do you use a lovey for?
lorrie gretz it's a small blanket for a baby or child to snuggle with. Sometimes people attache a animal head or a pacifier. My girls love them for their dolls.
Has anyone work with just one color? How did it turnout?
Can't seem to get the written pattern
I had it in a comment. They had moved it on the site. Hope this helps. www.yarnspirations.com/products/bernat-ripple-and-ridge-knit-blanket

Hi! Will #5 bulky yarn work for this pattern?
JC you can use any yarn really and a needle that’s appropriate. If you make a small swatch you can calculate how many stitches in an inch you get and just multiply that number times how wide you want the blanket. Then cast on with the closest multiple. ☺️
Ripple and Ridge??
Thought that pattern is called Chevron
Yes it is a Chevron Stitch pattern. Stitch patterns can be placed together to make an overall pattern design or be used alone as well. Let me expand on that for this “pattern” here: Another old school nickname for the basic stitch pattern is a Ripple. This overall pattern has the added eyelet, which gives a different look plus they added a stitch pattern border….so they named the overall pattern name Ripple and Ridge Afghan. Hope that helps.
I can't make the pattern work...have torn it apart way too many times but I do not want to give up because I love the patter and colors. We changed to Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash Merino Wool 100 g 14sts =4" and US 10 needles. The local yarn store said to cast on 178. I have many many times..I have followed the pattern and it always goes off kilter...does not line up...where is this going wrong? How many should I cast on with the yarn/needles I have to make an adult blanket/throw please??? desperate...
Springer Teich have you made a test swatch yet? I would test that yarn and needle with a smaller sample. Then measure Swatch to get your personal gauge. It will give you a chance to practice the pattern again and test. Then measure how many stitches per inch you go after it’s off the needle and block. It’s best to block before you measure. If In fact you get the 3.5 sts per inch like the yarn label says then the 178 sts would get you about a 51” wide blanket
yes have made swatch 4 stitches per inch and cast on 178.. The first two ripple/ridge line up ..but after that does not and there are way more than 5 knit stitches at the end.. I have unraveled about 57 times .. have followed step by step the video..I am not missing stitches...it just is misaligned...I prob should have gone with the Bernat instead of cascade....just is not working..
Forgot to say thank you for the quick reply

Seriously, dark yarn and dark needles??? What were you thinking? Not something I will waste my time watching. 😠
Helen Fountain hmm let’s see. Well it was filmed with the yarn I was sent by the company to make the sample at a time of year when all the kids have events at the end of school year and I was stressed. The needles were the only ones in the size I needed in my stash that were sized to the project. That set of interchangeable needles changes colors with each gauge and unfortunately yes it was darker in that size (the yarn gets lighter colors added further into the sample). So I’m thinking I don’t have the time as a mother to resolve this and need to get it done and take care of my family. So sorry it is an inconvenience to you. You asked what was I thinking and so there it is. Sorry I can’t sugar coat it and make it all better. It takes a awhile to knit, film and edit, etc and yes they are dark. Most of my videos I try to keep some contrast between the yarn and tool I use, and have now spent more funds to do so, but occasionally I get in a bind and have had make due with what is on hand in some older videos. You did however care enough to take time to write a comment and so in turn I am responding. It’s a real reply from a real human. I hope that is enough. I hope you find the help you needed.
@@GoodKnitKisses I'm just learning how to knit by watching RUclips. Your video is actually the second one I've watched. Your instructions were very clear. Even though you had dark needle and yarn, the video was at close range to where it was not a problem seeing how each stitch was done. Your video is awesome. Love the way you teach.
@@ireneguerra6143 Thank you, Irene. I’m encouraged you were able to learn in spite of the dark yarn. I usually shrug off comments like the above but apparently that day it hit a nerve 🤦♀️🤷♀️ Blessings to you in your journey
I have some size 4 yarn and size 8 needles. How would i figure c/o amnt.to make same size for big afghan.
I would just do a swatch and measure your stitches then co in multiples of 13 plus9 that most closely matches your desired width
