To be quite honest..it depends on the context of the relationship the 2 of you have had. But the first thing that comes to my mind is..he is either trying to politely tell you he is not interested in you or he himself is just very insecure. Some men are not secure with themselves and their masculinity and they cannot accept being with a woman that is strong. Basically, he needs to be the one who is strong and the woman needs to somewhat play the traditional role of being needy and not as strong as her spouse. Sorry I know I am being a little long winded about this but basically, when he says you are too smart or strong to be loved that CAN mean he is just very insecure and he does not like the fact that you are possibly stronger, smarter, and more secure with yourself than he is.
