    ** VIDEO SUMMARIZED **
    4 Reasons not to apply for a credit card right now:
    1) if you think there will be higher bonuses in the future.
    2) if you have high utilization rates with your credit cards.
    3) you might not have spend right now.
    4) if you're worried that certain airlines might go out of business and you'll lose your airline miles.
    8 reasons why you might want to apply for credit cards right now:
    1) you want cash back.
    2) people with no credit that want to get their first card.
    3) you want to get the platinum card.
    4) you have a lot of upcoming spend.
    5) you want to go on a honeymoon or any other trip.
    6) if you think it will take a long time for things to go back to normal.
    7) it doesn't make sense to wait because you'll leave money on the table.
    8) if the issuers make it hard to get approved.

    World: Coronavirus.

  • @mikitaleon

    With covid and being out of a job temporarily, I have had to use my credit cards to cover me and my family’s expenses. I’ve had a great record paying in full every month on all my credit cards and I didn’t wanna mess that up but I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to do it this month since i’m saving my cash for things I need cash on hand like rent. I’ve applied to two credit cards with no annual fees, one from chase and one from Amex. Both with the intent of doing a credit transfer from my Two most used cards to have 15 months no interest on my spending. I’ve been approved for both with a 8k limit on both. I’ve done this to avoid monthly fees, so far it’s taken a heavy weight off my shoulders since i’m still paying but in smaller amounts. I thank you and credit shifu for educating me on the credit card game, making them work on MY favor

    I had just cleared out my medical bill with Care Credit and boosted my score to 801. I am new to the game because I used to have a mildly conservative view on credit cards. I just got my Chase Freedom last week but thanks for the advice on waiting for new cards. All card carriers need to prove to the banks that we are responsible before they approve us for new cards, good credit limits, and great sign up bonuses.

And how you use it (purchases made in local currency or USD etc) the different fees you get charged, and the conversion rates etc... As a freelancer who pays 4 quarterly estimates a year, applying for 1 card every 3 months to hit minimum spends is perfect for my situation. I got the Amex Business Gold in April for July taxes, I'm targeting the World of Hyatt card for September taxes, and either Marriott Boundless or IHG to finish 5/24 for January taxes.

  • @GaryBlouin
    @GaryBlouin 4 года назад

    Per your question: I applied back in late April / early May. Was approved. Only got it because getting the 60K points is very easy (really don't need to do anything), free companion ticket that the expiration was recently extended by another 3 months. Got the card - besides the points, for preferred boarding, free checked bag, credit for WiFi, etc.
    Card only gets 1x point per spend (2x on airline tickets but still not good). Again, just got for what mentioned above. Did receive an email about a week ago that would increase the everything point per spend to 4x for purchases made in May and through June (and retroactive purchases). Doesn't beat American Express Gold for groceries / restaurants but does beat the American Express Blue Business Plus (BPP) by about 1.6 cents assuming I am getting 4x back on BPP (due to using transfer partners). So, using this card for everyday purchases through end of June and flip back to the BBP in July.

    • @GaryBlouin
      @GaryBlouin 4 года назад

      Should mention though ... still using BPP for purchases at Lowe's. Besides getting an automatic 10% off purchases, I'm getting an additional 10% from BPP through June and an additional 1x through end of December. Making most purchases online and doing either free delivery or outside pickup. That usually yields another 1% to 3% with Rakuten.

    Thanks to you and 2 other uTubers, I learned I had been looking at and using CC's the wrong way. I'd already planned on traveling and realized I'd get more "bang for my buck" doing the rewards game. So I worked on paying off all my balances. 11/19 picked up the Freedom. 02/20 picked up the CSR and booked my 2 week vacation to Moscow, Russia on the CSR for departure in 06/20. Then, the plan was to get the Chase Hyatt in 05/20 because that would put me at the 5/24 with them. Pick up the Amex Plat when I was approved. But instead, I had to cancel the trip on May 07 (USSR traveler restrictions) and I am now holding off getting the 2 cards. It's REALLY frustrating because I've been working for over a year to plan the trip but not willing to take the chance and employment is just too sketchy for me to be comfortable with....

Amex Delta gold card I was approved for with a low limit even though I have their Gold Amex I will be non-renewing and everyday Blue with $11k limit both with $0 balances credit score they pulled we 789 noone could advise why the approval was low. Wondering how much will this effect my credit utilization? I want to keep history on my report which is 2005 and will be applied to the Delta card also no annual fee for the Delta vs $250 for Gold Amex

    Once I heard about AMEX adding more offers in May along with the already added three months to spend $5,000.00 they gave me no choice but to apply for the Charles Schwab Platinum card before May 31st
    On another note, can you report on the NEW Experian credit scoring. I had three inquiries with TransUnion before the change to Experian with Chase, now I have eight total. For some reason Experian added my Chase business credit inquiries and me being a added authorized user.
    Is that what they're doing now. I'm waiting for my mailed report and just wanted to see if you knew anything about this NEW change.
    Thanks in advance....

    Hi Sebby, thanks for all the info as usual. Do you know if the new scoring system has applied already? I did get a new card like 2 month ago, and it actually helped my score because of the huge credit limit increase... but this month my score decreased like 30 points. I'm always good at keeping up with payments and all, and I do not get why my score went down so much. Please let me know if you know if you think the new scoring system has already started

    Can you go into more detail on the financial reviews Chase might start doing? If I have business cards with them but apply for the normal Hyatt card, would that potentially trigger this? Or even if I get one of their bank account bonuses? Or is it just if applying for more business cards?
    And what is this triggering? Requests for tax returns? Shutdowns?

    Sebby, I'm doing the AMEX aspire strategy where you save this year's certificate to combine with next year's for a honeymoon (my fiancee also just got the card so we are targeting around 7 nights with the 4 certificates and 300,000 points). Which Hilton Maldives property do you prefer? I saw that you went to both Conrad and Waldorf Astoria Maldives properties. The way I am analyzing it, with the Conrad, they have standard overwater villas whereas with the Waldorf they only have land based standard rooms. So even with the diamond status upgrade, you still might be stuck with a land based room at Waldorf. My fiancee really wants the overwater experience, so Conrad seems like more of a sure thing. However I did see in your Waldorf video that you booked a standard land based room and they upgraded you to a huge overwater villa. Waldorf also looks nicer since it's newer. Thanks a lot for any information.

    • @ChristiansAdventures
      @ChristiansAdventures 4 года назад

      Check out the cost of transportation from the airport to the resort. The Waldorf requires you to use their boat and it is expensive.

    • @AskSebby

      WA's new "standard" room is effectively an over-water room from my understanding. Boat fee is expensive though.

    • @AskSebby
      @AskSebby  4 года назад

      Most people suggest waiting to get into the AmEx ecosystem for two reasons 1. You want your first 5 cards to be Chase because if the 5/24 rule. 2. AmEx’s only gives a sign up bonus once on a card. So if you wait to get an AmEx Platinum card time can get targeted for the higher 100k signup bonus. It seems like you get targeted for this if you already have several cards.

      The benefit is that you’re building a credit history for the child so that they’ll already be established when they turn 18. Credit score is a major factor in the formula insurance companies use in determining premiums. A good strategy is to never let the kid touch the card and put a small reoccurring change on the card (i.e. Netflix) and pay it off in full every month
