@@MrFightmonster118 No, @juliecooke5907 is correct, Mass Effect is Shepard's story and without Shepard it's not Mass Effect. We still need the 'one more story.' Andromeda tried and failed miserably to do Mass Effect without Shepard. They tried, they failed. Bring it back to its roots, Shepard, the Normandy and the original crew on a new adventure.

I interpret MG's reference to the Shepard trilogy as an attempt to distinguish it from Andromeda, which does not get as much love. So in answer to the original post, he says he also wants to capture the original trilogy magic.

I really don't understand the need to play as Shepard again. They were great, but their story is over and they're most likely dead. Make me fall in love with a new original character that I can customize (probably even more than Shep) and maybe bring back a few squadmates (especially since the game might take place around Andromeda's timeline), but make this new story stand on its own. Give us new backgrounds (make sure they are not only referenced in the beginning) and maybe make us choose our own race so we can get a prologue like in Dragon Age: Origins. Mass Effect is my favorite game series of all time but not shaking things up would feel as disrespectful as changing it too much.

I mean tbh I don’t see why Shepard wouldn’t come back? EVERYONE complained about how Shepard didn’t really get a decent ending or closure.
So far in the teases it is has been proven that the next game takes place only a few years after ME3, and at the end of ME3 if you choose the perfect destroy ending then he is in fact alive.
In the teasers we see a bunch of destroyed reapers so it seems like the destroy ending is going to be the canonical ending (sorry for those who chose the other really stupid options).

its like mike is forgetting that veilguard had vets too, until they were all forced to leave or fired. Im encouraged that the leadership is different than VAG, epler and corinne voluntarily made every bad decision that led to that juvenile trash and then blame us for not gobbling it down gratefully. when it sounds like chatGPT wrote ur game, the problem isnt me, mkay? i want them as far from ME5 as possible, and truthfully, it should have been them fired, not all the vets. but, even supposed "different" leadership isnt enough to instill faith in a company that has delivered 3 flops in a row, and is basically unrecognizable from the image they keep trying to cling to. they are selling EA games with a "bioware" sticker for nostalgia bucks. thats it. they dont care about what the actual consumers of their products want. they use us to drum up hype, then they blame us for their failures, and ignore all our feedback. then they have the balls to lie to us and tell us "we'll deliver what we promised u this time, next time, i promise." they dont deserve us anymore. exodus is lookin good tho. larian is cookin. maybe we dont need "bioware" anymore either.

We’re all starting to lean on the side that this next game will take place in the Milky Way galaxy but in the time period of Andromeda. We’ve thought of ways that this could be written well too. Perhaps I’ll make a video on it one day.
But yes I also wanted DLC for andromeda and was very disappointed that it didn’t. However, even though this next game certainly won’t be Andromeda 2, I expect them to pull on threads from Andromeda several times.

ME5 is BW's last chance saloon. After MEA, Anthem and Veilguard they really can't afford another flop. Sadly, I think the fanbase is fractured along some pretty fundamental lines that I'm not sure the situation is retrievable. Shepherd or no Shepherd? Either way, the answer to that is going to piss off a significant % of the fanbase. Post-destroy, post-control, post-synthesis ending? Or just ignore it like MEA tried? Either way, again a significant % of the fanbase isn't going to be happy. MW game, Andromeda game, both? Yet again, people aren't going to like any of those options. ME3 timeframe, MEA timeframe, both? And again, lots of folks aren't going to be thrilled however they slice it up. And most of this is still an overhang from ME3's ending and BW's failure to address it ever since.
ME5, I hope for the best but expect the worst.

I agree in that either direction they go, people are going to be upset. But that’s how it was going to be anyways now that the Shepard trilogy is over.
Although, internally I don’t think BioWare or EA is viewing Veilguard as a flop at all. It journalistically reviewed well and it sold well. Didn’t sell great and it wasn’t anything groundbreaking at all but it was certainly a profitable game, just sold decent.

Mass Effect Trilogy is an emotion for many like myself. It was always going to be difficult to replicate it. Andromeda had a good story but somehow lacked the emotions of the original trilogy which left us disappointed.
So if I was leading the new ME, I would stay away from the OG series as the bar is already set too high for me to beat especially considering the Andromeda disappointment. Rather I would develop a new protagonist and tap into those emotions of the OG series. This way I can try and have best of both the worlds where I stay true with the emotions but at the same time have my creative freedom to shape the new ME.

100% agree. This is Bioware's do or die chance. Shepard and the crew of the Normandy MUST be in the next game as the main focus. We need to see Shepard's rescue or at the very least a summation of it, and then full speed into a new adventure as the Milky Way begins to stand on its feet again after the Reapers with sinister tidings of a new (or another extremely old) enemy begins to creep forth.

Ut was supposed to start its own trilogy, so either this game is loosely connected to andromeda, a technical sequal, or it's own trilogy start up leaving andromeda to be a black sheep, we don't know. But because andromeda was the 4th game, the new game is internally being referred to as me5(sfx5)

    • @MrFightmonster118
      @MrFightmonster118  3 дня назад +1

This next game won’t be a direct sequel to andromeda at all. But what we do know is that there will be plenty of elements from andromeda seen in this game. (Like the Angara that was shown in the N7 2023 teaser). I and other only call it Mass Effect 5 until a title is announced only because the game will have elements of all 4 previous games in the franchise. Plus it’s literally the 5th Mass Effect game

Bioware just has too much to prove for me to be hyped. I"m open to hear them out and listen to what they have to say and see what they have to show. But I'm just no longer holding my breath. They've have 3 flops in a row. I'm shocked they're even still a studio at this point gen their owned by one of the worst gaming companies in the world.

I wrote an essay of a response to this video, but it was basically a rant, so I greatly condensed it to this.
Good video, good point about the Shepard Trilogy.
But I wouldn't hold my breath at all. IMHO ME is dead, DA is dead, and Star Wars is dead. All amazing IP's who have been put into uncaring hands who write for shit.
Wokeness isn't the problem here, it's bad writing and bad design. DAV suffers from both. DAI, design. ME3, a rushed and horrible ending. The people at Bioware who brought us those amazing games, they don't work there anymore.
Last thing. This is what Michael is credited for "Michael Gamble. Producer: Mass Effect. Michael Gamble is known for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 3: Citadel (2013) and Mass Effect 3: Leviathan (2012)."
ME1, okay good work bud. But Citadel and Leviathan? One DLC which people remove with a mod? And the other which is used as an epilogue by mods because it's so out of place in ME3? Michael gives me 0 confidence that ME runs in his blood, mostly because of his credits, but partly because he comes off like he is saying Ignore our MASSIVE L with DAV, we won't fuck up ME, trust me bro. Nah bro, I don't trust shit anymore, my favorite IPs have been gutted by over zealous, arrogant and ignorant people for the last 10 years.
P.S. I hope it goes well and people enjoy it, but I am 99% sure I am going to pass and it won't be faithful to the Trilogy.

Firstly, thank you for your respectful comment expressing some of your valid concerns! I know you definitely aren’t alone in these thoughts!
Here is my attempt to perhaps ease your worries ever so slightly if I can:
      - The narrative director for this next game is Mary De Marle. She is great! Just recently won the “best narrative” award at TGA for her work on writing Guardians of The Galaxy. And if your issues stem from the writing in games like The Veilguard or Andromeda, this is a brand new writing team completely separate from those 2 projects spearheading this next mass effect game. That makes me feel pretty good for now.
-slight corrections on your Gamble credits, he’s done a lot more that than. He was a project director on Mass Effect 2, Associate Producer for all of ME3, Lead Producer on Mass Effect Andromeda, Leas Producer on MELE, and spearheaded the DLCs that you mentioned. Like he says, Mass Effect is in his blood and most of his work on this franchise has been when it’s at its best!

@@MrFightmonster118 I should have looked him to him a bit further before going so hard on him, still not convinced about him though, but maybe I am just reading his tweets wrong, it just hit me odd tbh.
Regardless, thanks for your response as well, she does seem competent based on her imdb, Deus Ex is pretty good and I did like Conviction even though it wasn't very true to the Splinter Cell Franchise (Gameplay).
And a whole new writing team? That could be good, only time will tell unfortunately.
Though my hope meter has went from nonexistent to 1% hopeful haha So either I am going to thank you later or be made that you got my hopes up, jk jk lol
I think a lot of my feelings and ideas on not being hopeful for new games stems from getting destroyed so many times by games I was hopeful for. So if I keep my expectations low it won't hurt as much. Sorta silly but here we are. Regardless thanks for taking the time to correct some of what I said and point on some good things about this new "dev team", hopefully at least lol

    • @MrFightmonster118
      @MrFightmonster118  3 дня назад +6

Yes I’ve noticed that IMDB can be inaccurate a lot of the time when it comes to game dev. Best sources that I look at is either their personal LinkedIn pages or the credits of the video games directly.
The writing room isn’t 100% brand new I should have worded that better. The leadership* of the group is completely different but a lot of the minority writers are still the same, like Patrick Weeks for example who did a lot of character writing for both the Mass Effect Trilogy and Dragon Age. But the head of the entire narrative for this next game (being Mary) gives me a lot of confidence in it because I’ve loved her best work in the past (being Deus Ex and GOTG IMO).
I understand getting burned by high expectations, we’ve all been there! But I truly believe that this might be BioWare’s last chance at developing a Mass Effect game unless it produces results. So I believe they’ll give it everything they’ve got!
Also out of curiosity, what about Gamble’s tweets has you skeptical?

In my opinion the best thing Bioware could do is bring back Shepard even if it would upset some fans (not everyone will ever be happy anyway).
Already from a marketing point of view it is obvious. Since 2020 the communication has been done only on the trilogy and Shepard. The legendary edition allowed both to please the fans but also to make new players discover the Shepard arc and thus prepare Mass Effect 4. I think it is perfectly possible that the saves of the legendary edition will be transferable to the next game. And in addition during this N7 day lots of clues referred to Shepard while being linked to the next game.
Bringing back Shepard would allow to give a conclusion (and possibly happy) to the Shepard arc that fans have been dreaming of for 12 years.
To please those who liked MEA (not my case personally), and this has been confirmed, there will be references to MEA. Given that to bring Shepard back the events must take place shortly after ME3, the fact that the crucible released a significant amount of dark energy into the galaxy could allow the introduction of glass holes (because dark energy creates black holes) and thus link the Andromeda galaxy and free itself from the chronology. This "quantum" vision of ME could be very interesting and open the door to stakes almost at the level of the reapers.
I also thought, given Mary Demarle's talent, there might not be a canon ending and depending on your ending choices the beginning of the game (maybe first half hour or hour) would be different. For example if you chose the perfect destruction ending, the Normandy crew saves Shepard and they later discover the appearance of quantum anomalies (lots of clues about this in the 2020 teaser). And if you choose the other endings, the Normandy crew detects the anomalies before and recovers Shepard from a parallel Universe.
The possibility would also be that we have the choice between two protagonists. Either Shepard or another. It would require more work but it is feasible and it would actually be the best option.
To conclude I hope and I think that Mass Effect 4 will be like a kind of conclusion to the Shepard arc. Allowing to live a last adventure with the characters that we loved and new ones and to have the real ending that we have been asking for so long. A kind of "gift for the fans" opening the door to a totally different sequel perhaps. A solution to start from scratch while pleasing a large part of the fans.
I am glad that there are still optimistic people like you. As I repeat many times on my RUclips channel Mass Effect, Veilguard and Mass effect are totally different teams with totally different visions!
(Sorry if there are spelling and grammar mistakes but I am French ;) )

Thank you for stopping by and leaving the respectful comment! Your thoughts on this are certainly valid. (And your English is great!)
Only thing I would say is that this next game can still give a lot of closure without having Shepard in it. We can still see the aftermath of Shepards choices and still see characters that new Shepard well without necessarily having to have Shepard be there.
Additionally, Shepard’s writer is no longer with BioWare. Bringing Shepard back could have some potential to do some irreversible damage to the character and how people view them. Think of what happened to Luke Skywalker in the sequel trilogy.

    • @MrFightmonster118
