Just bought this car as a non blacked out version and have put 1000 miles on it. I think it was a great value as the honda dealer in my area (southwest Chicagoland) was still marking up all their cars with 1-2k "market adjustments". It is too slow for me but every day i drive it the fuel economy is improving. 28 highway untill i hit around 1k miles. Currently getting 35 highway at 1050 miles. Has a premium feel to it with the soft touch, which i appreciate. My biggest zonks are slow acceleration getting on the interstate on ramps and the small minimal cargo area in the back with the rear seats up.
I've got my eye on a 2024 XSE hatchback. For the money you get that legendary Toyota reliability and tons of features. It's difficult to beat this car at that price point.
I considered this, the Mazda 3, and Civic hatch 3 years ago and chose the Civic. I felt all 3 were great cars, but the Corolla and the 3 were just too small. I recently upgraded to a 2024 Civic EX-L and feel this is easily the best of the three. I still have the utility, the great mpg, the interior is amazing, and it’s fun to drive. Great review as always.
I got a 6MT in 2022, new silver SE (even got 1.9% rate 🫣) But it drives so good this car is tons of fun. No rev hang at all on rev outs almost feels like a video game engine shift. Handles like a knife. Also compared to the civic hatch which seems to be getting some praise here, this one is MADE IN JAPAN. To me that is just more special. S/O to the Mazda 3 hatch which is also made in Japan.
To answer the title, no unless all you care about is the initial cost. The civic is actually comfortable for all riders and the trunk is really large. Also the 1.5t gets amazing gas mileage
Strongly considered this, but compared to the Civic hatch which I went for, this is cramped, felt cheaper, lacked features, and didn’t drive as well. There’s a reason the Civic usually wins comparison tests and don’t regret my choice one bit. 👍🏼
Civic wins only in youtube tests without considering prices, in Canada a Civic Sport Touring hatch is more than $7000 more expensive than a comparably Corolla XSE hatch...
When someone says they would rather have a Civic, for 4k more why not the Accord? It's a much better car, so instead they compare down to Corolla. It's like a Ranger guy talking about his choice in truck better than the Maverick when a F150 is much better for close in price.
@@TheCookieCrisp Your comment does not make sense. Civic and Corolla are in the same class so it’s right to compare them. For the same money I paid for my loaded Civic Hatch Touring, that would get me a lower end Accord with less features. I don’t need or want a bigger car.
Hear me out, I really really wanted a GR Corolla but because of the dealer markups I just couldn’t justify it. I do like that this version has two USB-Cs in the back on the center stack. I just rented a base Corolla sedan, no frills, and it only had the one USB-C up front, none in the back. Since I listen to my music either on cd (yes, my car has a cd player) or memory stick, if memory stick is plugged in there wasnt a place to also charge phone, with the rental Corolla.
The reason the corolla feels a bit outdated is because 2024 should've been the year for the next 13th gen corolla, I'm hoping if they push out the next gen to 2025 that they also do the same with the GRC '25 and not do the same thing as Subaru splitting the WRX and Impreza generation cycle mismatch
Are there brackets for a front license plate? I live in a state where 2 plated are required. I was stopped for no front plate and showed the officer there was nowhere to attach it. He said that neither of us can change the world and let me go.
The only thing the corolla has over the civic is the fact that it has a hybrid option and better longevity and cheaper to own than the civic. Other than that its oure cons from there onwards. Smaller interior space. The feeling of cheap plastic surrounds you in the corolla you dont feel that in the civic since the 10th generation civic. Now the only reason i would even consider the corolla would be the hybrid version. Otherwise it'll always be the Civic touring as the ideal Eventually the civic touring will be available in the hybrid version in North America which i am really looking to
