I don't see why everybody is saying she's either self-promoting or copying/hating on MAC? She spent time and effort to make these eyeshadows, so she has a right to be proud of them and talk about them. And as for MAC, she clearly said countless times in this video how much she loves some of the shades, and that's where she's obviously been inspired from.

Tracy I was just thinking the same. I think it was about two years ago that they lowered them now to $6 us for a pan and that's about when I really started to hear about makeup geek. I know they were around before that but they weren't on my radar.

Makeupgeek shadows are the best!!! I recently bought some Mac shadows and was so dissapointed with the quality and pigmentation. MUG is 10times better and for the price it's just a no brainer. I have been dying to try make up geek shadows, eventually I will get there, but I think what Marlena does is great, and a penny saved is a penny earned. Affordable Make up is always great, and supporting a fellow youtuber is even better, I would rather support a smaller business anyday than a large one. Marlena I just love you!

This is why Makeup Geek is far more superior than MAC :They are a cruelty free company (almost vegan with the exception of Carmine which is the vibrant red color from bugs) & will not sale to third party companies that they know will test their products on animals. They take pride in their ethics & will take a loss to stay a Cruelty Free company. MAC teaches their employees that they are Cruelty Free, but no where have I found that being true in anyway. Makeup Geek does provide an ingredient list to make it easy for Vegans to know which products do & do not contain Carmine. That alone will be 1 reason I would purchase from Makeup Geek over various companies.

+LondonCallingxx I've never bought or used MAC anything. I've looked & swatched, but didn't see the hype that others did. My dad being a chemist, formulates & creates air brush body colorants & much more taught me not to use products that test on animals & also do my research on their distributors & who they purchase from as well. My dad is cruelty free & the toxicologist that do his testing to prove his products are safe are cruelty free as well.
But all she's doing here is knocking down Mac promoting how AMAZING her products are compared to Mac (the best ones out there) that's pretty low and silky in my opinion. The fact that she has to do that to promote her products just shows how desperate she is.
I just ordered my first order of MUG shadows yesterday! I have been interested in them for over a year when the first RUclipsr I love ***** and I was so blown away by the pigmentation. After a lot of research and comparing I decided on MUG. I love how affordable all your stuff is ***** !! I ordered 15 starter shadows (mostly neutrals) & a Z palette for $100. Now if I were to buy MAC I would've spent twice that, and I had all the shadows from MAC in my cart and the total was well over $200. For 15 shadows I don't think the price is beatable! And go ahead and promote your stuff! It IS GREAT and you obviously put a lot of time and effort into your brand. I will never bash someone for promoting something they created, especially if it is an awesome product! Much love and (hugs) ♥♥
I love MUG shadows, but being also a makeup artist for mac cosmetics I know all the "T". A single Eyeshadow at mac is 16$, a single pan shadow for the palette is 10$ and our pre-made x15 Shadowpalettes in warm or cool tones is 85$ makes 5,66$ per shadow incl. the palette. And don´t forget that this price includes the expertise of a special by mac trained mua. you get quality, costumer service and the support to find the right colors for you. Do I still think that MUG Shadows are amazing? Of cause, just because I love one thing doesn´t mean I can´t love the other one. I love Makeup Geek, I really do. I simply don't trust Mac at all. Same as Revlon and L'Oreal. There's just something about tthose three companies that just... I don't know how to describe it! I just don't like them one little bit. Makeup Geek and Sugarpill are my absolute favourites. Urban Decay used to be in there, as did the Body Shop, but those two companies were bought out by L'Oreal, and L'Oreal is one of the biggest testers on animals, along with Max Factor. Did you ever noticed any issues when it comes to longitivity throughout the day!! Cause some of them are saying that they r not long wearing and they do miss some ingredient so they stick better on the eyelids, I don't know what to buy now cause I love MUG

Did anymore else notice she only had to barely tap her finger in the MUG pans to pick up the pigment whereas for mac she had to rub it in a bit more. not only that but the MUG swatches, from what i could see, have a better texture. Whether she copied them or not i'm grateful someone was kind and generous enough to provide an alternative source of shadows (of better quality in my estimation) for a much cheaper price. Not only that bt the competition appears to have really made a shift in macs prices. WIN WIN if u ask me. y yall complaining?

In Australia we pay $33 for one MAC eyeshadow. Therefore I don't care what everyone says about MUG copying Mac or whatever because it's cheaper to purchase makeup geek eyeshadows with shipping than to get MAC shadows in Aus. I can get 5 MUG shadows for the price of one MAC eyeshadow when the quality is just as good and if not better. It's totally value for money so I have no issue paying the extra $9 or $12 or whatever it is for shipping. Great eyeshadows and I totally recommend them to anyone! Love you Marlena!

I don't get why people are getting so emotional over this whole MUG vs MAC thing. It's like comparing Sigma brushes to Real Techniques brushes. Both have similarities and are good in their own right. Of course with any makeup product in the market, there will always be some hits and misses. Even Bobbi Brown makes crappy products sometimes. I personally love both and I'm not gonna stop buying MAC just because I've discovered MUG. But I do have to point out that for the price you pay for the latter you really do get high quality product. My favorite thing about the MUG eyeshadows (besides the price and quality) is that I'm not allergic to them. I am allergic to MAC eyeshadows for some reason, so it's good to know I can get those colors from MUG.

Oh yes Here in germany you pay over 20 Dollars vor an mac eyeshadow. Im so angry that it took me so long time until I found MUG eyeshadows and I bought so many MAC shadows spending so much money.
It might be the dollar value is less like my family lives in Trinidad and one US dollar is 6 Trinidad dollars or something like that. So everything seems more expensive.

Mac pans are £10 GBP in the UK which is around $16 and the MUG ones are $6, and even the new foiled eyeshadows are only $10, the shipping internationally was $15 to the UK which is great in my opinion if you buy orders in bulk, I spent £115/$200 dollars on 22 pans and a z palette which would have cost me £220/$315 dollars from mac (huge saving) and the quality is meant to be better anyway :) I remember buying the mac sketch velvet eyeshadow from mac and I was absolutely disgusted at how awful it was, it was literally the worst quality I have ever come across, there was literally next to no pigment to it, I would never ever buy another eyeshadow from them apart from their mineralize shadows and pigments, the quality isn't very good.

Corrupt is my all time favorite. before i discovered MUG i hated all black eyeshadow. They all tend to go blue on my skin and i hated it soooo much then when you first launched your eye shadows i was dead set in love. Now i have your entire collection . LOVE YOU MAKEUPGEEK
Now that MUG has released so many more shades, and MAC has lowered their shadows to $6, can you do an updated dupe video and list? I have almost all of the MUG shadows and it would be so helpful to see something along the lines of "If you have this, don't buy that" which expands on this video! For example, I've been eyeing MAC Woodwinked, but I'm worried it will be too similar to MUG Glamourous.

It sounds more but it's exactly the same price in every country. For example in Malaysia mac lipstick was 74RM which is £15. When you convert the currency it's all the same :)
People do bat an eye calling them copycats. Honestly, I don't mind because if you just copy the ideas and use finer formulation to make better quality products, make it affordable for the general public and also have amazing packaging... Then why the hell not? I love both MUR and MUG. Have you tried the MUR palettes, the chocolate bar ones, from the I Heart Makeup range? They legit apply like high end makeup, but are incredibly cheap. And I'm a makeup artist so you can take my word for it.
Just so you know the reason why MAC pigment isn't as much as MUG is because MAC is great for packing it on plus easy to blend. MUG's Makeup eye shadow's are pigmented HOWEVER have a lot of fall out and not as easy to blend as MAC. MAC is silky smooth and MUG seems to be a bit grainy in some eye shadows... It's all about if you want quality(MAC) over cheaper price and lower quality (MUG).

Samm Baamm its actually $10 dollar for a pan eyeshadow from MAC. Mac shipping is free. I paid $8 for an eyeshadow from MUG(no pan including shipping) vs $10 (no pan & shipping ) so really its a $2 difference

she also compared her eyeshadow pan price to macs eyeshadow pot price instead of pan vs pan to make her product seem better by comparison. That just frustrates me.
I think this video would have been better served by another maybe un-biased youtuber... It seems mac shadows have been sent to the lab and then just copied. No work put into it on development and creativity hence the price difference... It just seems like you have stolen a brands products and re packaged them.
In that case, you can say that about any brand who has a similar shadow to another brand... Colors are colors, there isn't much room to make your own unique one. Plus, when you look at the comparison swatches, they aren't exactly the same anyways, just similar.
sabrunka I agree. Some of the colors are similar, many are different. There are just as many that are a different undertone or level of color as there are colors that are almost exact dupes. Big deal. Do you know how many of my colors I happen to find almost exact dupes of in other lines I have when I'm not even trying to find a dupe? A LOT. Just like Sabrunka said, colors are colors. There are not that many different colors that are totally unique at this point since there are hundreds of colors out there. As far as pan size, that is just silly. There are several standard pan sizes like 26mm and 36mm. I can, offhand, think of about 6 different brands that have the same current pan sizes as MAC. I think she is comparing them side by side with MAC, not because she is copying them, but because for a long time MAC was the number one player in the shadow game. The fact that they have gone downhill over the years and people have begun looking for alternatives has nothing to do with Makeup Geek or any other company but MAC itself and I say this as a huge fan of MAC and one of their original customers. They are just not what they used to be. I still buy some products from them, but I also welcome the competition from anyone that can produce a better product.

I bet if this video was comparing MUG to Dior or Chanel or ANY brand, people would comment that MUG is copying them, too. I can agree and say they are competing with MAC, but making the shades based on what MAC has? Nah. Like I said, all brands have colors which are the same.

There's only so many colors the human brain can think of and create. Just because they are dupes to mac doesn't mean she isn't original. They are not the exact same. MUG are great quality, affordable, have color pay off, blendable, last long, what more can you ask of an eyeshadow? MUG is a better product. Don't get me wrong, when MAC came out they were ground breaking... Unfortunately they haven't really made any improvements since... And for me, the bottom line is MUG does NO ANIMAL TESTING! I do not buy products tested on animals, so I don't buy MAC
I was one of MAC's original customers and, you are right, they were groundbreaking. They were one of the first consumer lines that offered a large variety of colors in decent size pans, that were highly pigmented, and suitable for pros too. They partnered with Hakuhodo, who was just starting out with private labeling in N. America, and their brushes were made by them in the early years as well. Then MAC was sold to Estee Lauder. Everybody feared they would eventually become what they have slowly become. The pans got smaller. The pigmentation decreased. The products became less innovative. They are simply not the company they used to be. They are now more for the customer that is more concerned about labels than about quality. I still love some of their products, but I no longer see them as a high end makeup brand or a pro brand.

Makeupgeek shadows are the best!!! I recently bought some Mac shadows and was so dissapointed with the quality and pigmentation. MUG is 10times better and for the price it's just a no brainer. This is why Makeup Geek is far more superior than MAC :They are a cruelty free company (almost vegan with the exception of Carmine which is the vibrant red color from bugs) & will not sale to third party companies that they know will test their products on animals. They take pride in their ethics & will take a loss to stay a Cruelty Free company. MAC teaches their employees that they are Cruelty Free, but no where have I found that being true in anyway. Makeup Geek does provide an ingredient list to make it easy for Vegans to know which products do & do not contain Carmine. That alone will be 1 reason I would purchase from Makeup Geek over various companies.

My dad being a chemist, formulates & creates air brush body colorants & much more taught me not to use products that test on animals & also do my research on their distributors & who they purchase from as well. My dad is cruelty free & the toxicologist that do his testing to prove his products are safe are cruelty free as well.
But all she's doing here is knocking down Mac promoting how AMAZING her products are compared to Mac (the best ones out there) that's pretty low and silky in my opinion. The fact that she has to do that to promote her products just shows how desperate she is.

I just ordered my first order of MUG shadows yesterday! I have been interested in them for over a year when the first RUclipsr I love ***** and I was so blown away by the pigmentation. After a lot of research and comparing I decided on MUG. I love how affordable all your stuff is ***** !! I ordered 15 starter shadows (mostly neutrals) & a Z palette for $100. Now if I were to buy MAC I would've spent twice that, and I had all the shadows from MAC in my cart and the total was well over $200. For 15 shadows I don't think the price is beatable! And go ahead and promote your stuff! It IS GREAT and you obviously put a lot of time and effort into your brand. I will never bash someone for promoting something they created, especially if it is an awesome product! Much love and (hugs) ♥♥

I love MUG shadows, but being also a makeup artist for mac cosmetics I know all the "T". A single Eyeshadow at mac is 16$, a single pan shadow for the palette is 10$ and our pre-made x15 Shadowpalettes in warm or cool tones is 85$ makes 5,66$ per shadow incl. the palette. And don´t forget that this price includes the expertise of a special by mac trained mua. you get quality, costumer service and the support to find the right colors for you. Do I still think that MUG Shadows are amazing? Of cause, just because I love one thing doesn´t mean I can´t love the other one. I love Makeup Geek, I really do. I simply don't trust Mac at all. Same as Revlon and L'Oreal. There's just something about tthose three companies that just... I don't know how to describe it! I just don't like them one little bit.
Makeup Geek and Sugarpill are my absolute favourites. Urban Decay used to be in there, as did the Body Shop, but those two companies were bought out by L'Oreal, and L'Oreal is one of the biggest testers on animals, along with Max Factor.

Did anymore else notice she only had to barely tap her finger in the MUG pans to pick up the pigment whereas for mac she had to rub it in a bit more. not only that but the MUG swatches, from what i could see, have a better texture. Whether she copied them or not i'm grateful someone was kind and generous enough to provide an alternative source of shadows (of better quality in my estimation) for a much cheaper price. Not only that bt the competition appears to have really made a shift in macs prices. WIN WIN if u ask me. y yall complaining?

In Australia we pay $33 for one MAC eyeshadow. Therefore I don't care what everyone says about MUG copying Mac or whatever because it's cheaper to purchase makeup geek eyeshadows with shipping than to get MAC shadows in Aus. I can get 5 MUG shadows for the price of one MAC eyeshadow when the quality is just as good and if not better. It's totally value for money so I have no issue paying the extra $9 or $12 or whatever it is for shipping. Great eyeshadows and I totally recommend them to anyone! Love you Marlena!

I don't get why people are getting so emotional over this whole MUG vs MAC thing. It's like comparing Sigma brushes to Real Techniques brushes. Both have similarities and are good in their own right. Of course with any makeup product in the market, there will always be some hits and misses. Even Bobbi Brown makes crappy products sometimes. I personally love both and I'm not gonna stop buying MAC just because I've discovered MUG. But I do have to point out that for the price you pay for the latter you really do get high quality product. Mac pans are £10 GBP in the UK which is around $16 and the MUG ones are $6, and even the new foiled eyeshadows are only $10, the shipping internationally was $15 to the UK which is great in my opinion if you buy orders in bulk, I spent £115/$200 dollars on 22 pans and a z palette which would have cost me £220/$315 dollars from mac (huge saving) and the quality is meant to be better anyway :) I remember buying the mac sketch velvet eyeshadow from mac and I was absolutely disgusted at how awful it was, it was literally the worst quality I have ever come across, there was literally next to no pigment to it, I would never ever buy another eyeshadow from them apart from their mineralize shadows and pigments, the quality isn't very good.

makeup revolution copy a lot of high end palette and no one bats an eye but MUG have dupe for MAC shadows, everyone lose their mind.

People do bat an eye calling them copycats. Honestly, I don't mind because if you just copy the ideas and use finer formulation to make better quality products, make it affordable for the general public and also have amazing packaging... Then why the hell not? I love both MUR and MUG. Have you tried the MUR palettes, the chocolate bar ones, from the I Heart Makeup range? They legit apply like high end makeup, but are incredibly cheap. And I'm a makeup artist so you can take my word for it.
Just so you know the reason why MAC pigment isn't as much as MUG is because MAC is great for packing it on plus easy to blend. MUG's Makeup eye shadow's are pigmented HOWEVER have a lot of fall out and not as easy to blend as MAC. MAC is silky smooth and MUG seems to be a bit grainy in some eye shadows... It's all about if you want quality(MAC) over cheaper price and lower quality (MUG).

ive gotta throw my 2 cents in on this one of course this is only my opinion but ive used both mac and makeup geek and im gonna tell you i honestly stopped buying mac all together first off ive never really liked the quality of mac some that ive used were ok but alot of the ones i have suck but every makeup geek shadow ive used has been great every time im a huge fan the only thing i dont like about makeup geek is i wish they had more shades of greens blues aqua turquoise corals im praying more variety of colors come soon because i could honestly live with only buying/using makeup geek shadows and marlena is so nice ive never met her nor have i ever spoken to her but i watch her videos and shes honest sweet and the girl knows how to make a shadow

jcolinss I feel the same way .. I missed out on the sigma creme DE couture palette it had perfect pastel shades but makeup geeks formula is amazing
Comparing Mac to your brand is not a good marketing idea honestly
I know you said this months ago but it is, I don't buy Mac because they test on animals BUT I really like some of the colours so this video is perfect.

Their amazing eyeshadows but it's kind of sad your competing with Mac and giving in their eye shadows to your lab to make dupes of whereas I think each makeup brand is unique don't try to compete with something that's already a brand world wide. People will always come back to mac no matter what unfortunately but your eyeshadows are amazing in their own way :)

Samm Baamm its actually $10 dollar for a pan eyeshadow from MAC. Mac shipping is free. I paid $8 for an eyeshadow from MUG(no pan including shipping) vs $10 (no pan & shipping ) so really its a $2 difference

I'm so happy I was tuned into MUG. Honestly they're so much better than some of the M.A.C. shadows I've had. Can't wait for the blushes to launch.
not trying to hate just trying to give my opinion but she keeps saying that she is not trying to sell her product yet she is saying that her products are better then mac for a better price while they may or may not be (i don't know because i have never used it.) and did you see that part when she said that she duplicated mac expensive pink eyeshadow and just said that hers was better when they just looked the same in my opinion i am not a fan of her or her channel
she also compared her eyeshadow pan price to macs eyeshadow pot price instead of pan vs pan to make her product seem better by comparison. That just frustrates me.
I think this video would have been better served by another maybe un-biased youtuber... It seems mac shadows have been sent to the lab and then just copied. No work put into it on development and creativity hence the price difference... It just seems like you have stolen a brands products and re packaged them.
In that case, you can say that about any brand who has a similar shadow to another brand... Colors are colors, there isn't much room to make your own unique one. Plus, when you look at the comparison swatches, they aren't exactly the same anyways, just similar.
sabrunka I agree. Some of the colors are similar, many are different. There are just as many that are a different undertone or level of color as there are colors that are almost exact dupes. Big deal. Do you know how many of my colors I happen to find almost exact dupes of in other lines I have when I'm not even trying to find a dupe? A LOT. Just like Sabrunka said, colors are colors. There are not that many different colors that are totally unique at this point since there are hundreds of colors out there. As far as pan size, that is just silly. There are several standard pan sizes like 26mm and 36mm. I can, offhand, think of about 6 different brands that have the same current pan sizes as MAC. I think she is comparing them side by side with MAC, not because she is copying them, but because for a long time MAC was the number one player in the shadow game. The fact that they have gone downhill over the years and people have begun looking for alternatives has nothing to do with Makeup Geek or any other company but MAC itself and I say this as a huge fan of MAC and one of their original customers. They are just not what they used to be. I still buy some products from them, but I also welcome the competition from anyone that can produce a better product.
Maha Bilal I still don't get why you're saying this stuff. Almost all round eyeshadow pans are the same size, same pan, etc... That's just how eyeshadows are sold by almost every brand? I bet if this video was comparing MUG to Dior or Chanel or ANY brand, people would comment that MUG is copying them, too. I can agree and say they are competing with MAC, but making the shades based on what MAC has? Nah. Like I said, all brands have colors which are the same.

From what I've heard, MUG is by far better than MAC eyeshadows. So the shades might be copied, but the quality speaks for itself

I love these eyeshadows. My faves are sea mist, cocoa bear, lemon drop, sensuous, appletini and cosmopolitan looked BEAUTIFUL!!! You should not justify promoting your products girl! You put a lot of time and effort into making them. Great quality and amazing price!
There's only so many colors the human brain can think of and create. Just because they are dupes to mac doesn't mean she isn't original. They are not the exact same. MUG are great quality, affordable, have color pay off, blendable, last long, what more can you ask of an eyeshadow? Just like she said they are NOT suppose to be expensive, for the price that they were made for its nothing close to that price. CONGRATS on your success Marlena, I applaud you. You inspire me to one day create my own makeup line. Don't listen to haters, they know nothing. Keep up your amazing work!

MUG is a better product. Don't get me wrong, when MAC came out they were ground breaking... Unfortunately they haven't really made any improvements since... And for me, the bottom line is MUG does NO ANIMAL TESTING! I do not buy products tested on animals, so I don't buy MAC
I was one of MAC's original customers and, you are right, they were groundbreaking. They were one of the first consumer lines that offered a large variety of colors in decent size pans, that were highly pigmented, and suitable for pros too. They partnered with Hakuhodo, who was just starting out with private labeling in N. America, and their brushes were made by them in the early years as well. Then MAC was sold to Estee Lauder. Everybody feared they would eventually become what they have slowly become. The pans got smaller. The pigmentation decreased. The products became less innovative. They are simply not the company they used to be. They are now more for the customer that is more concerned about labels than about quality. I still love some of their products, but I no longer see them as a high end makeup brand or a pro brand.
Mac still is and always will be better. Your loss.
