Lee - My wife Mary and I have been to Red Butte countless times, since we live in Salt Lake. Absolutely no contest. Our favorite venue anywhere. We love just walking through the gardens on a cool evening, soaking up the aromas and the greenery and the sound of water rushing. Your video tour brought sentimental tears to my eyes. Thank you so much for reminding me. We'll have to go back up soon. It's about 15 minutes from our house. It's been a while since we've seen you play but I'm sure it was with Lyle or James or Steven Curtis Chapman or any number of other amazing acts you've held down the rhythm section for. We've always been huge fans of your playing and we're constantly listening for that signature bass sound that says . . . "Leland Sklar." Nine times out of ten when we identify your sound and check the liner notes . . . we're right. We were invited, last minute, to share VIP seats to Lyle's show the day you played this past week. Unfortunately, our kids just moved back to town and they also got VIP tickets from a dear friend who's on tour with Nickel Creek, who played across town that same night. So we had an absolutely amazing, moving, and beautiful musical experience . . . but we did miss hearing your bass with Lyle's Collings. We'll catch you next time.
My Dad and my Uncle had a reed company after WWII. They used to wait off stage at the Apollo Theater and sell them to the guys in the big bands. I still have all of his tools and gadgets to make them perfect. Selmer used to supply the uncut reeds. I think my Dad told me those stories...ummmmm...more than once! There ya go Leland....a REED STORY! Beautiful venue!!
The walk through of these magnificent grounds had me remembering the many walks through Golden Gate Park in San Francisco from ’65 to ’78 and before my moving to Oakland. You could easily spend a full day wandering the park and finding numerous little one room shacks where gardeners rested and took their meals. Wandering by foot was as easily done then as today’s digital wandering on the internet, but to this elder I miss the older wandering more so. It seems clearer now what Russ Kunkel was referring to a few days back as ‘some good news’ that at the moment Leland did not choose to be make public. Many of us will be looking forward to hear about a reunion with Carol King.
I hope Brad sees this. What a master musician! Over the years hearing him warm up is just great. He is just so fluid. The loose flowing of his playing is so soothing to my ears. Shows me appreciation of the sax. A student of his is very lucky. Peace Brother Brad!
Beautiful. If you haven't in Pittsburgh, there's the Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens, not far from the airport. Beautiful there as well, and it was a dump site that was turned around.
Another great walk on a day l didn’t feel like walking but now I have done my exercise. Looking at the garden makes it feel like we are right there and that is so good. The bonus of Brad being around is just like icing on the cake. Thank you Lee for another chapter in your ‘excellent adventures’. 👍☮️

Knew it was coming and have been looking forward to it. My kinda place (though probably not my kinda temperature; I’d be like Ted Striker within two seconds). Nice to see Brad in there. Even when he’s (justifiably) upset, he manages to be jovial. Have a great show. Stay hydrated, please!
Just read a suggested article for me today on the 1974 CSNY "Doomed" tour and they had some quotes from Russ. I didn't know he was on that tour. I bet he has some great stories. 😄
That was so relaxing with all the sounds of nature!! I’m going to have to bookmark this one!I was starting to worry you’d got to hot 🥵 like your phone.

Good morning, Lee!! 🫠❤ What a beautiful outdoor amphitheater that is, and beautiful botanical gardens. I'd never leave the place! Kind of like Sklar Botanical Gardens! I'm much like you Mr Sklar ,when you say you love the sound of running water .. especially a small waterfall ! Sorry to go off subject but I just stumbled on the “Something on the Way to Heaven” music video today. Love when the dog takes a whiz on your shoes! Take Care!
That guy may well be right about there being more than one way to skin a cat, though I’ve never put that theory to the test (I like most cats). Miles Davis used to say that while glaring at his band members. They shaped up real quick.
I have been a contributng member of the Red Butte Garden for over 20 years. I remember the place before it was so well estbalished. It's not like you can just throw the stage clothes into a washer and dryer if you have a laundry facility at the gig. Bummer. Nice venue, in any case.
