"He has rhythm inside of rhythm." That's a perfect way to describe it.
One of my favorite parts of this is when the strobe above his head starts flashing, he just shuts his eyes and keeps going at that drum like a squid in heat.
Plenty of songs it's probably 4x.
....and rhythm inside rhythm and so on and so on..... lol... great reaction. I actually fear for your safety when you get too 7empest. Cheers!!
Dudes an octopus.
The poly-rhythms are absolutely outrageous. Thank you for reacting to this, can't wait for more Tool songs.
When you beat all the other drummers in the game and get to the final level, you have to face Danny Carey.
and if you actually beat him, you have to face him again but this time they let him use his other arm.... or so i'm told, no one has beat him yet to see that
No win situation
This video of Danny doing his thing is my favorite video on the internet!
Sir, To me, your reaction to this epic display of greatness by Mr Carey ranks among your best reactions!!!! To watch a man with your knowledge of music watching in awe of another musician is PRICELESS! Thank you!!!! Stay safe and healthy, looking forward to see what else you have for us! I’m going to watch it again right now,WOW, Thank you 🙏
A clinic is what I feel this was, so rarely do any of them allow the full spotlight due to such an internal respect to the music but when they do the result is timeless. Danny doesn't get the love he deserves, so often skipped on best of lists yet we all know. Maynard's mohawk catching in the shadow at the end of this made me smile. THE band for me since 92.
Damn you people who discovered them before 96! That's 4 years I was listening to not tool.
100%. And a fan since 92 as well. Danny and Tool for that matter never surprises me, but am left in awe everytime
“I don’t try to play the drums, I let the drums play me” Danny Carey
Everything about Danny Carey amazes me. How does he come up with these complex rhythms? How does each of his limbs play at a different time signature at the same time?? I can’t even rub my belly and tap my head at the same time... the fact that he takes these super weird off beat rhythms and makes them sound good is insane to me. Also the fact that he can play it live exactly the same way is insane. Best drummer ever I don’t care what anyone else thinks. He’s so “in the pocket” it’s crazy
Or that he can play it with his eyes shut because the strobe above his head is a tad bright.
Danny can play drums, smoke a joint while driving a car while master bating to tool while rubbing his belly and patting his head. Lol
He's the best. He incorporates his jazz background into all their songs thus the odd time signatures. A Perfect Circle's drummer Josh Freese is also amazing but one tick behind Danny!!
Got a apc tat
Since we lost Neil Peart who was the Professor of the drums. The next up living Drummer to me is The Octypuss Danny Carey. He carries the Spirit🍷😊
Me too
While I do appreciate the band, I am not the biggest Tool fan, but what I really love is when a drummer is musical and what's crazy is this guy along with very rare drummers like John Bonham, Neil Peart, etc. are possibly as or more intrinsic to the song then the guitar, which to me is nuts, but it works wonderfully. You know this guy could unleash at any moment into an amazing technical flurry, if he wanted to, but he does not, he cares more about adding to the song and fitting the melody, it is this kind of selfless virtuoso that I admire most.
Such a mind blowing performance. During the bridge(I guess that's what it's called) hes keeping four different tempos, one four each limb 🤯
@@wearenotamused6455 Funny thing, unless you've seen the same video of the interview with Adam; Adam says he can & does play 4 different rhythms, one with each limb, then adds "a 5th when he uses his cock" 😂🤘
@@wearenotamused6455 actually the real inside info is he also hits each nut against the gong separately....in 7/8
Just saw both your replies now. I'm dying at them 🤣
I never get tired of watching him play!
It's a great time to be alive.
He's such a humble beast. It lights the passion I have as a musician when you watch someone get lost in what they're doing and loving every second of it. Love your reactions!
"That was _disgrossting"_ OK, now you're my favorite reacter.
Greatest living drummer! 4 limbs playing 4 different rhythms with ease! What an absolute monster!
Every sound made in the album is also done live. I remember hearing intros to songs and thinking, how the heck are they going to to pull that off haha, and they did it. Maynard used his voice for more of those sounds than I thought, not just the vocals, but those little clicks and breaths during intros. They’re a fascinating band, scary talented
Amen to that remark about just enjoying people who do their craft well, just like if you were in the same team. I feel the same when seeing or hearing some artist who have honed their craft for decades.
Been enjoying your videos for a while by the way, you always have pretty insightful remarks about these songs I've been mostly enjoying for years already. Keep on doing what you are doing!
His drumming really hypnotizes
More of what you never knew you needed! Come again , and Spiral Out!!!
Truly feel Danny is just starting to peak at 59.
A hundred + times I've seen people react to pnuema & it just keeps getting fresher.. & soo fucking beautiful!🖤
You talk about the sycopation and the meeting place of Tools music, to me that perfect describes Invincible. There are a number of points where they are all playing different rhythms and when it meets up, wow!!
I really hope they make more of these high quality drum cam videos. The old ones are such poor quality you can barely see what he's doing.
Not heard any Tool untill a RUclips recommend came up and i gave it a listen,it was the studio version of this song.I played it and played it on and on, really listening each time finding something more in the tune.I thought some of the percussion sounds were probably multi trackted at recording but the drum cam shows otherwise.Danny plays it all in one go....Absolutely amazing.I fell in love with Tool from my first hearing of Pneuma.I'm now the pround owner of their last 4 albums and drive my wife crazy(well, you gotta play Tool LOUD.)Hope to god they find the time to come over to the UK,I've got to see them live before I die.
People will be studying "the Octopus" for a long time. At least as far back as Aenima people were claiming that Danny was big into numerology, and that he incorporated sacred numbers into his beats. I don't think I've ever heard it from his lips, but I can understand why they make that assumption.
@Nerdy old white Guy fuck Black Sabbath fuck their drummer and fuck you. The only being capable of touching Danny Carey has passed. RIP Neil Peart
@Nerdy old white Guy oh, and is pretentious the word you use when you can't even begin to comprehend what's being manifested before you?
Your reviews are top notch, you obviously get music/production. We were at this show, he wore a Kobe Lakers shirt (before he passed) for the encore just to have fun with us. The whole show was incredible. Go Celtics/Patriots!
It's refreshing to hear a musician be able to both recognize and articulate what it is about Danny's fantastic technique -- which is actually exceeded by his brilliant musicality and passion -- that we can all admire, learn from, and enjoy.
Thank you for clearly expressing what many of us are thinking, but can't always put into words!
58yrs old...at the top of his game😎
You are right, sir. Danny is the best.. Fire indeed. Tools sound has evolved like a fine wine...yet keeps the driving pulse and riffs that everyone should appreciate. Wonderful!☆
I am in no way a drummer myself, but watching danny play, I can without doubt see that he is an absolute MASTER of his craft. Unimaginable skill, what he can do is incredibly difficult. I just love Danny, he is such a good person.
Thank you for your mild mannered demeanor. I get so tired of the hyper host style. Plus your takes on the production value is cool to hear. Gotta love the TOOL vids, too. Subbed!
Every time I watch thi Danny video I'm thankful that it was recorded for me to see. Such an amazing sight and experience. It still takes my breath away. Great reaction. ❤
Just to think Danny is 59 years old doing this. The whole song is special from the bass, guitar and obviously the drums. Tool is a very special band and as close to perfection as you can get.
Good job recognizing what he’s doing. I’ve heard people call this video underwhelming. They don’t understand how difficult it is to do these things because he makes it look so easy.
Pure Artistry 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Not sure if it was mentioned here, but any city Danny plays in live, he will wear the local sports team's jersey.. in this case it was at the TD Garden in Boston this last November. 🍀
I would love to see that jersey collection
And if you notice this isn't just any Celtics jersey. This Is a custom Danny Carey jersey with Larry Bird's retired number.
The passion and technique of the marvelous Danny Carey completely serve the music; technique is not an end in itself.
This is what great artistic expression is all about!
Thank you for the wonderful reaction, demonstrating your superb musical understanding and fully justified appreciation.
Great channel! 🎶
It would’ve been KEWL to see Him & Neil P. play together... Epic 🤘🏼🤠🥁🤘🏼🤠🥁
I was gonna say.. They DID jam together and it’s on RUclips.. but this guy already got it covered👍
One doesn't simply head bang to Tool.
That has to be earned! 😁
I've seen many reactions to Danny Carey's Pneuma drum cam and I have to say your reaction is spot on, kudo's to you well done. Pneuma is a collaboration of four gifted musicians and song writer and over time this song will go down as a masterpiece.
Holy s**t. This is your first time seeing anything live from them? I won't say they're the best, but there's absolutely nothing like experiencing TOOL live. It is a must and a rite of passage to see them in action.
I think you enjoy seeing human potential come to fruition. I feel your joy and that's a reason I follow your channel.
I can't wait for the rest of this show to come out! Danny is the best and you MUST see this band live. Nothing like it ever!
Enjoy your reviews. Nice work
Love ur Patriots logos!! Brockton Mass right here my friend..Justin in bass is amazing and Danny is unbelievable . Thanku for video..Go Pats!!
I have to make this comment Danny is amazing obviously but can we just take some time and appreciate how the rest of the band sounded that was live, you kidding me ! What a great band .I can’t believe that was live ,but really I do because I’ve seen them six times
I could watch this every day. I don’t even know how many times I’ve watched this. It always calms and centers me.
Now THIS is an excellent reaction video. I could tell you totally felt that.
Oh man I'm so glad to find a real true music lover as some of us here, your reactions are very honest and real. I saw tool back in February in Dallas, Texas and yes Danny is one of the best in the world, when I met the band after the show he was extremely humble and I told him to please take care of himself because we need more masters of the craft like him. When this video was shot, he was 58 years old now think about that for a second.
Great feedback man! Thanks
Hard to believe he is 58 years old! What a beast!
One of the very best 👌
At 58 years young he is truly a beast!!
🔥👽WELL SAID BROTHA👽🔥
Been playing drums for 30 years. I could never compare.
Danny's my favorite drummer. And I am a drummer. Never will there be a better RUclips video posted. RUclips might as well pack it in. Great reaction, btw. I love seeing different people react to this. Your comment about rhythms inside rhythms was astute for sure.
this must be the most reacted to vid today. perhaps will set a new all time forever record.
I, like all of the TooL army that watch these are like just wait, wait until you understand the sound that is TooL. Welcome. Now go back the beginning to fully understand the sound. The spiral awaits you.
That meeting place is the off time signature patterns he uses. They always meet back up at a certain count. Danny is well known for this.
Definitely great live and had the pleasure of seeing them in the late 90’s Thank you for reacting to this as always Bro keep up the great work
Genius at work
1000000% agreed
Notice the depth in how hard he hits to how soft he hits. Just another dimension, caught on to that from learning to play their bass and guitar riffs, playing the same riffs over and over but just adding and taking away intensity by muting notes one bar and then playing the same notes open the next
Thanks Drama, that was great! Love taking this ride with you. All the best to you. ✌️I don't know if you saw a previous comment but I suggested Tubular Bells, an iconic track from 70's. Part of this 25 minute breeze of a song contains the theme music for The Exorcist. Even if you can't or don't review it you owe it to yourself to check it out. Look forward to Eulogy.
Amazing. my passion IS to play drums .. my brother owns a company where they repair every kind of drum for bands around the world (after they come back from tour and neeed tuning) , I am teaching myself how to play the Iranian drums.
Yessss, so glad you reacted to this. I cannot get enough of it.
I'm right there with you when it comes to feeling like part of the team lol I always felt like I was weird so it's good to know I am not alone! I get excited, emotional, happy, etc when I watch someone so talented and just immersed in their passion.
I give this 8 tenticals up
I watch a lot of reaction and analysis videos of Tool and i have to say the “double-dutch” analogy is just about the best ive heard.
There is a point where two people can enter into Tools music at the same point. In Quantum Physics they call this bound particles. It when two particals become in sync with each other regards of distance.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bound_state
WOWmazing.
58, he's freaking 58. Smh. My cardio couldn't handle that at 30
Their polyrythmns are notoriously Tool-esque and it’s NOT crazy in the least to appreciate genius brother! Tool has always committed to recording tracks that can be played live! No over- dubbing or multi-layer tracks, THATS their unique and unparalleled superiority as musicians... IMHO
@14:32-@15:10 VERY INTERESTING ANALYSIS! GREAT POINT MADE HERE! ...and that's coming from an OG92.
I kinda see Danny and Adam as being artists first. Adam and his wife are both amazing Artists even if you remove music from his equation. Danny even at 56 is still out there pushing himself to be better than he was the day before. That man eats, sleeps, breaths drums. When Danny isn't working on a Tool tour or a Tool project more often than not he's playing the best jazz clubs in the country with some of the best jazz musicians in the country. I'd say that about 90% of his style is a direct result of him being a professionally trained jazz musician. He's constantly trying perfect his craft and he never will and that how you keep trying to get better even. If there is a God he maxed out all of his stats before he sent him down. Graduate college with a music degree, move to LA from missouri, joined about 5 bands, get ahigh paying job as an on set musician for a television studio as the on set drummer. You get to know your neighbors and find out theyre trying to start a band so despite the fact that you're not gonna start band with those guys because he heard them and they're aren't very good so you agree to help them out but jamming with them so they can actually work on material in a useful way. Then a couple songs In he's starting to notice that something was happening. Something special. degree in college up to today. He's essentially playing a heavier style of jazz drums. in my opinion there's one thing that's absolutely that separates this band from everybody else. And it's Danny Carey. He's always trying to do something interesting and unique with his drumming. It's already a somewhat unique situation being as they don't really record their albums together or at least without Maynard in the studio. But in that since about 2000-2001 a lot of songs are the result of Danny basically just sitting down and just jammin by himself. No band no music. I assume he's just setting his click at to a random or specific time signature and building it layer by paid drum by drum. He's so fucking sick. I've. Seen them 5 times. $13 per ticket in Sacramento 1997.$43 Seattle 2001. $39 omaha 2002. $160 council bluffs 2006. $260 lincoln, nebraska 2019. Yes my last 2 Tool concerts cost me $420 for just my tickets and I don't regret it one bit. It's a lot of money but it's almost like therapy. Their music really lends itself to introspection. I know that when I'm in situations where I know there's a decision that's gotta be made or times when my I just feel lost I put Tool on and just get lost in thought and just try to think things through and try to see things from as many angles as I can.
Your “meeting place” comment for me makes me a fan of you. It’s not about Tool although love watching reactions of this song. Just a really great perceptive comment. I’ll check in and watch more of your reactions.
I like your reactions, mind putting TOOL in it's own playlist?
umm it is sir!
@@DramaSydETV Found it thx, I binged a few. Loved your reaction to 46&2.
I love seeing somebody "feeling" their music
The Best Ever.
Great reaction Danny is a beast
This video is akin to a magician revealing the secret behind the magic... But it's exactly like watching a master craftsman create beauty.
👑
First time seeing this...this guy is sick
As much as it's his passion, this is more than that. This is like Wayne Gretzky picking up a hockey stick. Or Lewis Hamilton sitting in his first car. It's a mixture of timing, passion and most importantly a rare if not unique ability. Things have to come together... You can't just practice and get this good... You have to practice to get this good and be able to get this good if you do that practicing. You get it.
For what it's worth the other guys are all superior rock musicians as well and if not among the best by some normal standard, they are among the most unique artists of that quality musician
All these reaction vid and no one says how amazing the audio recording is on this video.
This video is so great. I've watched itso many times.
Dude is 58 years old and killing it.
Liked and subscribed. Real recognize real!
Like tool wonderful performance
I just want to know you LOL. There's not many music fans as devout as I. Well played sir
oh man you haven't watched the sober live performance from the reading festival??? My man, it is a very early performance from 1993 and it is one of my favorite live performances ever. Maynard's emotion evoking power and theatrical performance gives me goosebumps every time I watch it...which is like once a week.
Great React! gratz from Brazil
How can I send you a pic? I want to show off a DC drum stick I caught after a Tool show in Toronto. It's the most favorite thing I have, since Tool is my all time #1 for almost 25 years now. Really enjoy your appreciation and enjoyment as you bing journey Tools musical unique desire to explore, experiment and confidence in the finished greatness without concerns of marketability. Go see them live, then go again and again, each will be a special memory... Let me know if and how to send a pic or two if interested. Ty
Good reaction again and love your face at 11.00 🙏😉
🐐
I saw Data and just had to smash the sub and like button lol.
I can hear the influence of Bill Bruford in his playing. Danny is just a beast version of that type of player.
BEST DRUMMER EVER!!!
hands down.
Neil Peart 2nd
Rick Allen 3rd
RIP Neil
I need to learn how to play drums. It looks like a great weight loss program. an excellent drum playing. what a beat. thanks for keeping it real.
