Thanks for taking the time to do this and put it up. Very well done and it looked like fun! I didn’t see that you were actually drawing in the screen for a bit. 😏 maybe showing your pointer as you draw and/or making the colors of your on-screen drawings a bit more vibrant wolf have helped me catch the drawings quicker, but I don’t know, I might have just been having fun watching it

Superb terrain and figures, a nice 18th century report with heavy casualties and impressive battle confusion, big like!

Is this what lost them the war. The Cavalry losses they suffered here seem to have never been replaced.

This is one of the most decisive engagements of the campaign. A lot of the jacobite army got heavily damaged with no way to replace them.
The brits too seem to be in poor territory at the time as a lot of high quality infantry is lost but once the jacobites get near London and George releases the guards it turns around.

Seems like quite a logical outcome. And a bit like one of those points historians might quibble about: was it a clear victory and an operational breakthrough? Or did Charles make a potentially crucial mistake of focusing on controlling ground rather than on eliminating the enemy force? I guess the continuation will decide this. Your minis look wonderful.

Seems a bit odd that just because the vote for an invasion of England was split between the two potential objectives the default became throwing the army at and heavily entrenched and powerful English Army. Won't the logical decision be to toss a coin and decide whether to go for Newcastle or Carlisle?
Also, can you provide a link for the voting page as I keep checking the Facebook link but nothing ever seems to appear.

It seemed the Jacobites overwelmed the British, and it is off to the south they will now go. Will the Jacobites follow, or head for Carlisle, or ... maybe both? A rollicking good battle/game report, congrats! Looking forward to viewing the next report, although it'll need to wait for another time, since it is off to a WW1 skirmish playtest next after dinner for me. 😎👍

Sorry Alex, only just saw your comment. We use slightly modified Black Powder rules for the games

Very nice and exciting battle. French volleys normaly were not effective at all. In our games the French are Inferior for shooting although they are standard for fighting. Great video as always.

The French fire better than the Highlanders but not as powerfully as the redcoats, who have the platoon fire bonus (if they haven't moved that turn). This was a gruelling game, and gave us clear ideas where the comparative strengths lie.

Once again, the British bias appears with regards to shooting. I don't agree. Don't want to argue since I don't know you folks. But this whole theme gets tiring.

@Joseph Walukonis I think it's reasonable to give the British regulars a firing advantage over the Jacobite troops, and the latter an advantage in hand to hand. We use matching shooting values for French and British regulars, just with the added platoon fire bonus for the latter if they've not moved. In this campaign of course, there's a finite number of regulars and the militia units that will be needed to replace losses will not have the same advantage...

@@Prestonpans1745 The accounts about the quality of the troops from contemporaries are sometimes confusing. Frederick II and others mentioned the high quality of Hanoverian and Austrian infantry at Dettingen. But every book about Fontenoy mention the high losses of the French infantry under British firing. It's obvious how the French prefered the attack instead of a duel of musketry and that the Maréchal de Saxe tried to prevent his infantry from losing in firefights. It's important to compare different sources in my point of view. I don't know much about Jacobites and therefore could not assume how good the Jacobites make use of their firearms. I don't know how often they shot at targets for example.

@@Prestonpans1745 that's a cool detail, about the well=trained troops being limited. makes sense.
