      @@Summer_turtle_ Well I don't think it's harder on a normal run but One life YES it's infintivly harder I'm trying it but it's sooo hard it's absurd. @@gn6311 hard mode isn’t really difficult it just take longer to beat the game with more hp to ennemies I think and the Xp takes a lot of time to build on and it's harder to finish the skill tree.
      But one life like I said is an all different breed and a lot more difficult then hollownight one life mode steelsoul.
      Because while you die sometimes in Hollowknight it's not a lot where in Ori game loop even in easy you die in repeat a lot LOT. So doing it in 1 life leave no room for mistake at all

    I just wanted to say thank you so much for this video. I've been playing Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive edition for a while and recently started trying One Life mode. After many attempts, I finally got it, and now I have all of the achievements for it. My run was always around 3 hours, but I add quite a few extra ability points, energy and life orbs. I'm amazed at how long you kept going without spending ability points, and how you never paused quit before dying, you did it all in one continuous run.
    The only way I got Mount Horu and the end sequence finally was having a Normal mode save file in the same spots, and practicing each segment multiple times before continuing further on my One Life game in those sections. I can't imagine how many times you practiced this game to get as good as you are through the entire game. You're awesome!

    • @SpamShock
      @SpamShock  2 года назад +6

      Thank you for your comment David, and huge congratulations on getting it! It was incredibly incredibly tempting to pause the game when I knew I was going to die, but ultimately the desire was there to beat it without any cheeky workarounds. Mount Horu was a nightmare - I had at least five attempts end in there, and like you, I reverted to practicing in a saved file there. Congrats and thanks again!

    Unfortunately the achievement didn't pop for me because of a bug that occurs when you restart the run on a one-life save file where you already died. The save file and the pause menu will say "one-life" but the game will not register it. Apparently I had to start on a brand new separate save file to get the achievement. Imagine going through all that trouble and not getting the achievement in the end :(.

    Just finished this game for the first time today. It took around around 11 hours and 700 deaths (I was at 683 before the final escape). I just have to say that this video is wonderful and a great achievement by you.
    I hadn’t played any metroidvanias or platformers besides Mario for a long time (Metroid fusion on the game boy) and decided to buy Metroid dread when I got my OLED switch a few days ago. Now my eyes have been opened up to a totally new genre. Both games (ori and dread) are masterpieces and are 100% some of the best games I’ve played the past few years.

    I was wondering that, if the platform freaked out bc what would be the point of a splice bc ultimately you would still have to complete it one life. I don't think I'll be able to do it in one life. Never. For my first run, I had 580 deaths and for my second I was even worst (and I thought that it was easier for me) I had 630 deaths. • @SpamShock
      @SpamShock  6 месяцев назад +1

      I've not noticed that before and agree it looks suspect, but I can assure you it's not spliced. If you look closely at x0.25 speed, those dodgy frames only seem to affect the bottom half of the screen (keep an eye on all of the top-half scenery, the wooden platform, the spirit well, Ori and Sein, all whilst mid-jump). The top half is fluent and never breaks, and I wonder if the Xbox couldn't keep up with loading the scenery and had a tantrum.
      For what it's worth, a splice would be much easier to execute 5 seconds earlier at the spirit well or 5 seconds later when Gumo drops down, as opposed to midjump!

    This is rad, I died at least 1,000 times! At 1:46:37, you can actually go underneath the obstacles, following the direction of the rotation of those lava beams. There's definitely a section of instant-death exposed lava in the middle that you can't really see, but there is room to stand once you drop down from the platform on the left, and a jump with a speed burst can get you safely to the other side. Maybe a little easier than trying to go back over the top.

      You can kinda cheese Immortal a bit by copying saves in the menu (which also tends to give you Supersonic), and if you have the game on PC, you can cheese One Life / Unhinged the same way by copying saves in your filesystem. This is absolutely cheating and doesn't deserve respect as an accomplishment, just thought I'd mention it in case you like the dopamine of seeing achievements pop up (more than you like spending hours on attempts) and are willing to use trickery to get there.

    I'm surprised you never once went for Spirit Magnet, seemed like you were endangering yourself trying to grab spirit light in a couple of spots. I always get it just to eliminate the impulse to jump to my death in order to gain 3 xp lol
    Also, I think an important point about the story is that it wasn't Ori's revival that killed Kuro's chicks, because that could be read as "the deaths were necessary to save the forest." No, the resurrection was a relatively peaceful affair involving a lot of flowers springing up all of a sudden. That burst was the "Light Festival" (so titled by Sein), which the Spirit Tree put on in a time of peace and prosperity in an effort to get Ori to leave Naru and come back to their ""home"" with the other forest children. So it could actually be read as a selfish act, of the forces of light thinking they're above everyone else and going to great lengths to get back what's "theirs," and such an act disrupted the yin/yang of the forest, causing Kuro's retaliatory vendetta and the eventual state of full decay and "blindness" that killed Naru and Ori some time later. (This state could only be reverted through the circumstance of the volcanic eruption and forest fire, which put everyone in danger and forced them to act together to save themselves and each other, and the cumulative result of previous acts of selfless and sacrificial devotion to others, on the part of Ori, Gumo, and Naru.)

      Lack of spirit magnet was the thing that got me a bit perplexed as well, haha. It really helps early on with getting ahead on gathering spirit. Gonna chock that up to differences in goals, though. For one life 100%, I tend to take the hit on early utility stuff and just speed level the middle tree to get spirit efficiency asap. Then, I put everything into top tree to get airdash and breath ready for the trip down to Lost Grove, which I do immediately after getting feather. Makes for a less stressful Misty > Ruins > Pass section.

    • @Nat_the_Chicken
      @Nat_the_Chicken 2 месяца назад

      @@radikaldesignz Yeah it seems to me like if you're doing 100% ability tree in general you just want to get efficiency asap (though then again, if you plan on getting every ability cell and spirit light container you probably won't need to worry too much about collecting enough spirit light)

    • @radikaldesignz
      @radikaldesignz 2 месяца назад

      @Nat_the_Chicken how do I put this...
      When playing one life mode, you end up playing more of the beginning parts of the game than the later parts. You get used to not having things like the damage upgrades and the save healing much easier. Most of what's going to kill you is just instant death stuff anyway. No upgrades can really help you with that, except for mobility upgrades. And getting spirit efficiency asap let's you get all your mobility upgrades faster than either evenly upgrading everything or ignoring the middle tree altogether.
      Granted, doing the first 2 of each and then focusing on movement upgrades only yields roughly the same result, but then it takes forever before you get your attack buffs maxed. And it's true that getting efficiency first won't make the game noticeably faster to complete, but it will make the later parts of the game much safer and easier to navigate, much sooner in the run than otherwise. I'd rather be ahead on upgrades going into the completion sweep portion, despite the fact that the completion sweep will get you there regardless.
      Edit - to add to this, your routing is a bigger factor for safety during the run. Heres what works for me:
      Warp up to ginso after grotto, then after ginso (aka getting bash and stomp), you warp to hollow Grove well from grotto well and go left to grab feather. Immediately warp to sunken and do burrows, and straight to lost Grove (skipping the boulder). When you warp out at the bottom, you continue with misty > ruins > pass by warping to the well next to misty. For pass, you just want the ancestral tree for now, so you warp out at the well. Then completion sweep the whole map aside from the path to horu, and warp back and finish the pass. Come down and finish up that area, and use the well near misty to get to the well near ginso, and onward to horu to finish the game.

      @@radikaldesignz Oh if you're trying to give me tips for when I do it myself, don't bother. I decided I wanted the achievement but didn't want to actually sink in the amount of time and repetitive play required to get it legit, so I cheated by manually duplicating my save file on my computer every time I saved. In no way did I earn the accomplishment and I doubt I ever will, but I think it's kinda fun to mess with game files.
      Edit: Thanks for all the info on this though, it is pretty interesting to see how you think about it and how you developed your route.

    Word of advice: If you are falling to your death or are going to die, pause the game and leave to restart from your last checkpoint. Saved me from falling onto an instant kill spike in the water escape

      Wait, that's viable even for One Life difficulty?

      A lot of times, you'll die before you even realize you're about to get insta-death'd. But, yeah, you can absolutely pause and quit if you get to that pause button fast enough, and it'll load from your last save.

      I've just completed my first casual playthrough. This game looks feckin brutal, so One Life would be tricky!

    This is just what I need to make 100% of achievements, and playing in definitive edition PC, is not possible to copy and paste the save.... so if somebody had some tips, please, give me!

      No version of the game, even on Xbox, allows you to make copies of One Life files!
